Lily - use or lose

I’ve always loved the sound of Lily, it’s connection to my favourite flowers and symbolism (purity, devotion…).

But do you think that Lily names are too overdone to use? Or should I go with the name I love no matter it’s popularity?

Also would you prefer Lilia to Lily? (Lilia is less common and international, but people I’ve mentioned it to struggle with pronunciation
for some reason or want to say Lillian)

*Other variants of Lily except Lilia we either can’t use or don’t love the same way

I think [name_f]Lily[/name_f] sounds super sweet and is a great name but I definitely prefer [name_f]Lilia[/name_f]! It’s got a little more length, elegance, and spunk in my opinion, plus you can shorten to [name_f]Lily[/name_f] as a nickname. I tend to like longer names that can be shortened

Oh, I love Lily! Just Lily. It’s simple and sweet with a visceral nature connection. Also, most “Lil” names get shortened to Lily anyway, so I don’t know if it will make her stand out more even if you do go for a longer version.

Lily is a lilting beauty — for me, the sound conjures up water shining by the moonlight because of its gentle sway. There’s so many songs, book characters, and folklore to testify to her bewitching quality. I’m a huge Bob Dylan fan and he has two songs with Lily in the title, plus there’s a song by Ben Gibbard. Also, The Secret Life of Bees and Harry Potter have famous women names Lily. In real life, you’ve got Lily Tomlin, Lily James, etc., all who show how great it ages.

lily is my all time favourite girls name :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

i think it’s a little overdone but i still love it, it never loses its charm for me!

i like lilia too but i do prefer lily

[name_f]Lily[/name_f] is a name that I see ranking pretty high popularity-wise but don’t actually see in use out in the world - I know one [name_f]Lily[/name_f], that’s it. So I don’t find it overdone (although I’m sure there are regions where it is very popular).

In theory I prefer [name_f]Lilia[/name_f], but in practice I think it would be sort of difficult to wear for the reasons you mentioned - it’s right between [name_f]Lily[/name_f] and [name_f]Lillian[/name_f], both of which are much more commonly used than it is, so I think it would be destined to be mistaken for one of them. I find [name_f]Lily[/name_f] itself very sweet, classic, and appealing. If it’s the one you love, I vote that you go that way!

YES.

I know a [name_f]Lily[/name_f], she finds her name a bit infantile.

I think [name_f]Lily[/name_f] is beautiful and feel that it’s real popularity heyday has passed and is now on the downward slide. So I would go with [name_f]Lily[/name_f].

[name_f]Lily[/name_f] is adorable! Personally I would use it if you have a rarer, more uncommon or long last name to really balance it out. Since I do agree on it being popular, it would make sense to have [name_f]Lily[/name_f] if you have an atypical last name. If you have a simple, familiar last name I would go with [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] and add some spice to the combo! Both can use Lills as a pet name which I find so so cute

I love [name_f]Lily[/name_f]! Its meaning, sound, look, and connotations are appealing to me. It is my favorite “Lily” name. More importantly, it sounds like you love [name_f]Lily[/name_f] best. Although it is popular, I still think that it is a good choice for you!

[name_f]Lily[/name_f] is definitely usable, if you dont mind the popularity (clearly many people do not!)

I do prefer [name_f]Lilia[/name_f], because I like longer names with nickname options (Lily and Lia). [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] is probably my favourite girl name at the moment. I’ve never heard of anyone finding it difficult to pronounce, as there are many girls names with similar endings.

[name_f]Lily[/name_f] is pretty common where im from. But i ADORE it!
