What are your thoughts… do you like it? Is it the kind of “plain-[name_f]Jane[/name_f]” name that would leave you saying ‘meh’? Would you feel like ‘oh no, not ANOTHER [name_f]Lily[/name_f]’? (It’s #73, which is much lower than I expected but also much higher than I’d like to go)
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you have any creative suggestions on ways to get to [name_f]Lily[/name_f]? I dislike [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] (which is actually more popular than [name_f]Lily[/name_f] alone) and SO and I both feel that [name_f]Liliana[/name_f] is a bit try-hard. He doesn’t like [name_f]Lilith[/name_f] or [name_f]Lilia[/name_f]/[name_f]Lilias[/name_f] either, but [name_f]Lily[/name_f] is his favorite girls’ name so I’m trying to consider it.
I love [name_f]Lily[/name_f]. I wish it wasn’t so popular, but it is popular for a reason. The name is beautiful and classic. You listed all the ways that I know of to get to [name_f]Lily[/name_f]. Maybe to a double barrel name since it is short. [name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] or [name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f]?
I adore [name_f]Lily[/name_f]. It’s much lower on the list than I thought it was. I don’t think of it as “plain-[name_f]Jane[/name_f]”, but more sweet and playful name.
The most creative way to get [name_f]Lily[/name_f] that I can think of is [name_f]Eulalie[/name_f]. When used in [name_m]Shakespeare[/name_m]'s poem it’s pronounced like ‘you-lily’. It’s far from intuitive though.
Others that come to mind are [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], [name_f]Liliane[/name_f], [name_f]Lilibet[/name_f], and [name_f]Lilla[/name_f]/Lille. [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] seems a bit strange but [name_f]Lily[/name_f] is apparently an old fashioned nickname for it.
I adore [name_f]Lily[/name_f]. [name_f]Lily[/name_f] is beautiful, sweet, and has some spunk. My other favorite [name_f]Lily[/name_f] names are [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] and [name_f]Lilia[/name_f]. I love [name_f]Lilibet[/name_f] but would only use it as a middle name. I have only met or known a few children/woman named any [name_f]Lily[/name_f] name. [name_m]Even[/name_m] the most popular names are not like they were decades ago. AND we get back to the fact that there are reasons to names being popular. I do not let it bother me, I find adoring a name and feeling connected to a name way more important.
I think [name_f]Lily[/name_f] is a very pretty name. It’s a classic and I don’t think it’s too popular in itself. I’m just tired of all the liquid L names ([name_f]Leila[/name_f], [name_f]Leah[/name_f], [name_f]Lillian[/name_f], [name_f]Lillia[/name_f], [name_f]Lila[/name_f], etc), and I feel like [name_f]Lily[/name_f] sort of blends in right now.
I do prefer [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] with no nickname, but [name_f]Lily[/name_f] is very pretty, delicate, and sweet. I’ve only ever met 3-4 [name_f]Lily[/name_f]'s. In recent years, I’ve met two. I think you will definitely meet others, but she wouldn’t be one of 5-6 in her class.
Where are you at? Because here, [name_f]Lily[/name_f] is much more popular than that! I definitely don’t care about the popularity, though–it honors my grandmother in a very, very special and sentimental way (in a way no other name could), and it’s sort of a special tie between me and my grandmother, which I rather adore, since there are so many people already named after her, and I’m not keen on being the seventh person to use [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] or [name_f]Mae[/name_f] in her honor.
I don’t think of it as plain or boring at all, but maybe it’s because I haven’t met too many Lilys yet, and I always think of the delicate, beautiful bloom of the flower. I think [name_f]Lily[/name_f]'s just so gorgeous.
If you want to get to [name_f]Lily[/name_f] but aren’t keen on [name_f]Lillian[/name_f], [name_f]Liliana[/name_f], [name_f]Lilia[/name_f], [name_f]Lilith[/name_f], or [name_f]Lilias[/name_f], I’ve also heard these ways to get to [name_f]Lily[/name_f]:
[name_f]Delilah[/name_f]
[name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f]/[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Lila[/name_f]
[name_f]Liliosa[/name_f]
Lilikoi
Elila/[name_f]Alila[/name_f]
[name_f]Liliane[/name_f] ([name_m]French[/name_m] form of [name_f]Liliana[/name_f], I think; pronounced lil-YAHN)
It actually slipped in popularity last year from 16 and I think it may continue to drop. I’m guessing if combined “lily” would actually be in the top 10.
We considered this name for our baby and it was so hard for me to let go of it. However, we strongly considered the “playground popularity” meaning that all those variations of [name_f]Lily[/name_f] that are called [name_f]Lily[/name_f]. We kept meeting other babies and pets with the name so we just couldn’t do it.
It’s a beautiful name, but if popularity bothers you I’d save it for the middle name spot.
[name_f]Lily[/name_f] is very popular here in Australia, I’ve known many. It definitely feels a bit ordinary and plain, I much prefer [name_f]Lila[/name_f].
I like [name_f]Lily[/name_f], it’s a classical flower name but it packs more of a lunch than [name_f]Rose[/name_f] does. I don’t think it’s too plain at all, I think it’s ever so slightly vintage but still with enough fire to be used today.
[name_f]EDIT[/name_f]: I forgot to mention about the popularity.
Yes, I know a few but I don’t know loads and I’m certainly not tired of hearing it. One of my nieces on my husband’s side is called [name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] which I find very sweet.
Honestly? I’m so over [name_f]Lily[/name_f] names. Yes, it’s pretty. There’s no denying that. But it does evoke the whole “Ugh, not another one” kinda feeling - to me, anyway.
My name is [name_f]Lily[/name_f] and I love it so much I honestly think my parents have me the perfect name and if it wasn’t my name then I’d definitely use it for one of my future children. Despite it’s popularity I have never actually met another [name_f]Lily[/name_f] in my whole life (I’m 16) and even if I did it wouldn’t matter to me. Someone else that has my awesome name? Good for them
I love my name and am complimented on it regularly.
