Lily?

Hi! I’ve been thinking about the name [name_f]Lily[/name_f] a lot recently. I love this name so much and its really meaningful to me but for some reason its really hard for me to picture on a grown woman. I love it on a little girl but it feels a little too cutesy for an adult to me. Does it work to have it as a middle but also a nickname?

I don’t personally have a problem picturing it on an adult. Maybe seeing it on grown women would help? There’s the famous [name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_u]Collins[/name_u], [name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_m]Aldridge[/name_m], [name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_u]James[/name_u], [name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_m]Allen[/name_m], [name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] Depp (she’s on the younger side, but still technically an adult), etc.

If you still have a hard time with it though, plenty of people go by their middle name as a nickname, so I don’t see any reason why that couldn’t work.

I completely agree with @futuremama , [name_f]Lily[/name_f] is vintage enough that I can see it being used on any age. It has a ‘cutesy’ charm but I don’t think it sounds too young. And yes, I too think you could use it as a nn even if it were a middle. :heartbeat:

I agree with Previous Posters, [name_f]Lily[/name_f] can totally work for an adult. It was my great grandmothers name! You also use as a middle name with a nn.

Lily could totally work on an adult. It feels vintage and charming. Additionally, it’s fairly popular atm so by the time she grows up, there will be plenty of adult Lilys.

It could be a nickname for [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] or [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] if you prefer

I’m an adult [name_f]Lily[/name_f] so I think it works well. I do think it makes a lovely and unexpected middle name, if you’re more comfortable with that route.

Lily feels very suitable for an adult. I think it works as a nickname from the middle name but I think it’s perfect as a first as well.

As a 24 year old named [name_f]Lily[/name_f], I’ve never felt it’s too cutesy or not taken seriously. I often get compliments on it. So speaking from personal experience, I say go for it

I think lily is elegant. I think it ages well. If you preferred the more mature sounding version there is always [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] with the NN lily?
