If our baby due in march is a boy, DH really wants to call him [name_m]Link[/name_m]. He loves it, it’s a very strong connection to his father, whom has passed, and I can’t find anything I like better.
In an attempt to find a more professional, formal name, I suggested [name_m]Lincoln[/name_m]. He agreed but pointed out that like everyone else in our family with a nick name, he will always just be [name_m]Link[/name_m] anyway.
I know a few [name_m]Brad[/name_m]'s that have to say, “no, not [name_u]Bradley[/name_u], just [name_m]Brad[/name_m].” It makes me wonder if it’ll become a nuisance for a child, or if he’ll fit right in with the nickname-as-fullname trend at the moment.
Not in love with the spelling of [name_m]Lincoln[/name_m] either, though I wouldn’t change it because I think others look silly.
What do you think? [name_m]Will[/name_m] it grow with him? [name_m]Will[/name_m] everyone assume he’s a [name_m]Lincoln[/name_m]?
My son is lincoln and we call him [name_m]Link[/name_m] for short. I think [name_m]Lincoln[/name_m] is a strong name as well, to me if i met a link i would assume his full name was lincoln
I actually really like [name_m]Link[/name_m] on his own and I’m not a huge fan of [name_m]Lincoln[/name_m] personally. Normally, I’m big on nicknames (as shown in my signature) but [name_m]Link[/name_m] is very spunky and cute and definitely works as a full name in and of itself. I wouldn’t assume a [name_m]Link[/name_m] was a [name_m]Lincoln[/name_m] should I meet one.
If you want to find other full names of [name_m]Lincoln[/name_m], I recommend using the search tool on NB and including the letters “lin” in the search. If you have a middle name that contains a “c” or “k”, [name_m]Link[/name_m] should work as a nickname.
I like just [name_m]Link[/name_m] (but I’m a big fan of nickname names and I’m aware they’re more accepted here in the UK). [name_m]Lincoln[/name_m] is a fine name, and I do think people might expect a [name_m]Link[/name_m] to be [name_m]Lincoln[/name_m] on the BC, but personally I prefer [name_m]Link[/name_m] as is.
I prefer [name_m]Link[/name_m] by itself (I’m usually a big nicknamer as well, but [name_m]Lincoln[/name_m] is just not my style.) I wouldn’t automatically think [name_m]Lincoln[/name_m] was called [name_m]Link[/name_m] but it could definitely work. Another option to get to nickname [name_m]Link[/name_m] would be to use an Li- first name ([name_m]Linus[/name_m], [name_u]Lionel[/name_u], etc) with a C- or K- middle. But [name_m]Lincoln[/name_m] is much more of a straight shot to [name_m]Link[/name_m]!
I think [name_m]Link[/name_m] by itself is a really cool name and also adorable. [name_m]Lincoln[/name_m] sounds more professional, but if you don’t like it then just go with [name_m]Link[/name_m].
Also not a big fan of [name_m]Lincoln[/name_m] (especially because it seems so presidential, but I’m in the US). I do like [name_m]Link[/name_m] by itself, as a big nicknamer I do think I prefer a longer name rather than a short name. I just like the versatility. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like Linkin? [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m] may also work, though the obvious NN is [name_m]Lock[/name_m].
While I don’t love [name_m]Lincoln[/name_m], I like it with nn [name_m]Link[/name_m] (or also maybe [name_m]Colin[/name_m]).
Personally I wouldn’t use just [name_m]Link[/name_m] on its own.
I would lean towards [name_m]Lincoln[/name_m], but [name_m]Link[/name_m] is fine on its own. Other names that might work to get to nn [name_m]Link[/name_m], but may be a stretch(?)
I like [name_m]Link[/name_m], [name_m]Lincoln[/name_m] doesn’t hold the same charm for me. However, I would probably expect a [name_m]Link[/name_m] to be a [name_m]Lincoln[/name_m], but that easily corrected by a ‘no, its just [name_m]Link[/name_m]’. If you love [name_m]Link[/name_m] but don’t love [name_m]Lincoln[/name_m], I would just go with [name_m]Link[/name_m]. I have no idea as to what else [name_m]Link[/name_m] could be a nickname for either.
My nephew is named [name_m]Lincoln[/name_m], so if I met a [name_m]Link[/name_m], I would automatically think it was short for [name_m]Lincoln[/name_m]. While I like longer names with nn, I could see [name_m]Link[/name_m] as a full name.
[name_m]Link[/name_m] reminds me of the video game character, but if you love it, no big deal! I do think that for a short nickname it’s nice to have a slightly more substantial full name, so that there’s the option of going by either.
In addition to [name_m]Lincoln[/name_m], I think [name_m]Link[/name_m] could possibly be short for: [name_m]Lyndon[/name_m], [name_m]Linus[/name_m], [name_m]Leonard[/name_m]. But [name_m]Lincoln[/name_m] certainly seems like the most intuitive option.
There’s also [name_m]Linek[/name_m], a variation of [name_m]Leonard[/name_m].
