Linden? Too girly?

This names is growing on me, but I have a feeling its way too feminine? Suggestions and opinions please!

I think the [name]Lind[/name]- beginning is associated with girls because of [name]Lindsay[/name]. [name]Lyndon[/name] looks more masculine, as does [name]Landon[/name]. I’m trying to come up with something to say to reassure you that [name]Linden[/name] can be boyish, but I just feel like it looks far too feminine. If I were a teacher and saw it on a roster, I would expect a girl. But I think it could become associated with a boy quickly and easily if you did go with it. It’s not like you would be giving a son a blatantly female name. Still, I recommend [name]Lyndon[/name] or [name]Landon[/name].

I like it on either gender. According to Behind the Name, it’s #88 for boys in British [name]Columbia[/name] in [name]Canada[/name], so it seems to be pretty firmly established as a boys’ name there at least. It’s not in the top 1000 for either gender in the U.S, but it was given to more boys than girls in 2011 by a narrow margin - 66 baby boys named [name]Linden[/name] and 51 baby girls (linden – Nancy's Baby Names). There’s also [name]Lyndon[/name] B. [name]Johnson[/name], who is a pretty recognizable male figure with the name in the U.S, even though he spells it differently. I definitely don’t think that it’s too feminine to use on a boy.

I just typed up a post and got the “Your post will not be visible until a moderator has approved it for posting.” message, so I’m going to try again, because everytime I’ve gotten that message before I don’t think I’ve seen whatever I was trying to post again.

[name]Linden[/name] isn’t in the top 1000 for either gender in the U.S, but it was given to more boys than girls by a small margin in 2011 - 66 boys and 51 girls. [name]Just[/name] like [name]Rowan[/name] I prefer it on a GIRL!

No, I think it works fine on a boy as a nature name.

Again, one of a few names that I accept on either gender! [name]Linden[/name] works well on a boy, but I do slightley prefer the spelling [name]Lyndon[/name] for a boy. However, either a fine and like others have said it’s not that popular in either boys or girls so nobody can really says it’s too feminine.

I think the [name]Lyndon[/name] spelling is more masculine because of [name]Lyndon[/name] B. [name]Johnson[/name].

Also, I think the name [name]Lane[/name] is pretty cool for a boy. My friend just named her son that last year. I haven’t heard it much.

I prefer [name]Linden[/name]/[name]Lyndon[/name] on a boy. I doesn’t seem very feminine to me. I really like [name]Lane[/name]. It has a similar feel to me. [name]Lane[/name] is on my list, though it doesn’t go that great with my last name. :frowning:

[name]Linden[/name] is not at all girly and contrary to the other poster, if I saw [name]Linden[/name] I’d assume it was a boy

[name]Linden[/name] is unisex and it is on both my boy and girl list. I like it for a girl because it’s NOT girly. If it became more popular for girls I wouldn’t like it anymore and would only use it for a boy

It’s a unisex name, but I get a pretty girly vibe from it… if I saw [name]Linden[/name] on paper, I would assume it was a girl. Probably because of the feminine [name]Lin[/name]/[name]Lind[/name] beginning ([name]Linda[/name], [name]Lindsay[/name], etc.).

Sounds girly to me. The spelling [name]Lyndon[/name], however, is all male.

I don’t think its any girlier than [name]Hayden[/name]/[name]Jaden[/name]/[name]Kayden[/name]. Which is to say I wouldn’t be completey gobsmacked to see it on a girl, but neither would I find it odd on a boy.

I like [name]Linden[/name] for the nature name quality. Which is not to say its a tree and thus for girls; I’d keep it filed next to [name]Heath[/name] and [name]Hawthorn[/name].
