[name_u]Linden[/name_u] was suggest as an honor name for my mom, [name_f]Linda[/name_f]. I really feel like the name is in a pretty gender neutral territory and I’m really likin it for a boy.
Does anyone have any suggestions for a middle name? What are your thoughts in [name_u]Linden[/name_u]? Is the nickname Lin (prn. Lynn) okay in your opinion?
[name_u]Linden[/name_u] [name_u]Blue[/name_u] is a potential combo as its a family name and has a cool story with how it came to be a family name. I’d love to look at other ideas though! I’m okay with the name being sort of ambiguous to the gender and don’t need a super macho all male middle name. I also really like Lin as a nickname (vs Den/Denny) and hope it’s not too feminine with “Lynn” being a feminine name.
I really like [name_u]Linden[/name_u]! The only [name_u]Linden[/name_u] I’ve known was a male so it feels masculine to me even though it apparently could go either way. Because it isn’t very popular I would think you’re safe with using it on a boy. The only hesitation I’d have would be spelling confusion with [name_m]Lyndon[/name_m]. But that might not bother you.
[name_u]Linden[/name_u] [name_u]Blue[/name_u] is cute! I’d probably pair [name_u]Linden[/name_u] with a solidly male middle name. Something like [name_u]Linden[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u].
Or pairing it with some of your great options in your signature:
I think [name_u]Linden[/name_u] is a great way to honor your mom. I prefer [name_u]Linden[/name_u] for a boy. [name_u]Linden[/name_u] [name_u]Blue[/name_u] is nice. I like [name_u]Linden[/name_u] [name_u]Indigo[/name_u] also.
Spelling mistakes won’t bother me too much I don’t think, with my name being what it is I’ve mastered correcting people
I was leaning towards a more solid male name but all of them have zero spark for me to use personally (even if it sounds nice together). It’s frustrating! Plus a lot of the common ones ([name_u]James[/name_u] for example) are family members that I’m not interested in naming a child after (brother in law is [name_u]James[/name_u]).
[name_u]Linden[/name_u] [name_m]Vaughn[/name_m] has a nice ring to it! [name_m]Vaughn[/name_m] is an honor name for my brother. He and my mom were super close, so I like the idea of honoring both of them in 1 go. [name_m]Fox[/name_m] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] is our definite pick for a 1st boy so I can’t use those in any other pair. [name_m]Vaughn[/name_m] and [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] are fair game!
The name being sort of gender neutral is totally fine with me most would only know a first name anyway and [name_u]Linden[/name_u] is pretty gender ambiguous (at least to my opinion, and I think the general population wouldn’t clearly know as its not super common). I have a gender neutral name (that leans more towardso male use) and it’s amusing to see the expressions when people assume they’re meeting a guy and then see a female I’ve found having a more neutral name that’s more uncommon tends to stop people from having strong preconceived opinions (with myself included when I see a name I have no knowledge of).
Wow, I never knew any of those names had any association to [name_u]Blue[/name_u]! I’d most likely stick with my normal faves ([name_u]Blue[/name_u] itself or [name_u]Indigo[/name_u] and [name_f]Azure[/name_f]) but those are so unique. I love the brainstorming too!
It really does! It’s DH favorite colour, my mom’s maiden name, my brothers middle name, my mom/dad/brothers birth colour (all born in the same month) and it has a cool story to how it came to be one of our family names (great grandparents were orphans and essentially picked their own name after leaving the orphanage).
I added to the original post but mentally I’ve been thinking about if I have a boy calling him [name_u]Linden[/name_u] with the nn [name_f]Lin[/name_f].
I know it’s only a nickname, but would calling him [name_f]Lin[/name_f] be too weird because of the often female [name_u]Lynn[/name_u]? I tend to like softer names/nicknames but I don’t want to make it super weird for any potential babies since [name_f]Lin[/name_f] is a pretty easy nn to get to from [name_u]Linden[/name_u]. I also don’t like [name_m]Den[/name_m]/[name_u]Denny[/name_u] as a nickname.
I’m not usually a nickname person (I tend to prefer short names that don’t lend themselves to nicknames) but [name_f]Lin[/name_f] just intrigues me as a nickname most of our nicknames are completely obscure and not related to the name at all but this one just stuck out to me. That doesn’t happen often so I had to double check usability as the only Lynns I know are female. Not that it necessarily matters for just a nickname, but no harm in checking!
Oh that’s super awesome actually! I like the meaning of forest too DH and I want to do some international travel so I love knowing tidbits of information like this.
[name_u]Lynn[/name_u] seems like it has more masculine ties than I know of. It must just be the area I live in where it’s mostly feminine.
Thank you! I really hope we have 2 boys so we can use it on a boy (first name is already picked and honors DH and his father, so I can’t use this one first) but I can also use it on a girl since it’s pretty neutral to gender. As long as I can use it I will be super happy
I like [name_u]Linden[/name_u]! And [name_f]Lin[/name_f] [name_m]Manuel[/name_m] [name_f]Miranda[/name_f] is super cool right now, so I don’t think anyone would find [name_f]Lin[/name_f] not cool or masculine enough.
