Link? By itself?

We are due with a boy next [name_u]March[/name_u], but my last was born very premature so honestly, he could be born as early as tomorrow! I am getting stressed out that we don’t have a name picked out yet. We had a name in the books for MONTHS, [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m], but then suddenly DH didn’t like it anymore. :-?

We all (all including my 4 year old DS) like the name [name_m]Link[/name_m]. I have extreme nostalgia surrounding The [name_u]Legend[/name_u] of [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] and have always loved the name in general. However I know that [name_m]Lincoln[/name_m] has become very, very HOT lately and is just growing in popularity (which is a turn off). However, I’m not a fan of [name_m]Lincoln[/name_m]. [name_m]Just[/name_m] [name_m]Link[/name_m]. But can this name stand alone? Or is it like naming a kid [name_m]Mike[/name_m], not [name_u]Michael[/name_u]? I am open to [name_m]Link[/name_m] being short for SOMETHING, just not [name_m]Lincoln[/name_m]. But no names like that exist as far as I know. (Linkton, Linkland, Linkson? Lol.) Thoughts?

Hmm, at first I was not quite sure… but after thinking about it for a little bit, I am really loving [name_m]Link[/name_m]! I love its spunk, and the meaning it has to your family. I think it would be a really wonderful stand out/fit in name amidst names like [name_m]Jake[/name_m], [name_u]Max[/name_u], and [name_m]Zach[/name_m]!

It is tricky to find formal name (other than [name_m]Lincoln[/name_m]) that could give [name_m]Link[/name_m] as a nickname, isn’t it?! My most feasible thought is [name_m]Franklin[/name_m], but is a very big stretch.

[name_m]Just[/name_m] in case you are still worried about [name_m]Link[/name_m] as a standalone, I thought I would give a few possible alternatives ~

[name_u]Sterling[/name_u]
[name_m]Clark[/name_m]
[name_m]Lachlan[/name_m]
[name_u]Linden[/name_u]
[name_m]Clint[/name_m]
[name_m]Flint[/name_m]

Good luck with everything & congratulations

If it sounds nice with your last name I would definitely use [name_m]Link[/name_m] on its own. I love short names and prefer to name kids what you plan to call them rather than a longer name that you don’t care for. Got for it!

I think [name_m]Link[/name_m] works fine on it’s own but the video game association is just a bit too strong for my own liking. Maybe the association will fade once all these Lincolns grow older and are being called [name_m]Link[/name_m] as a nn. I do prefer [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] though.

Well all I can think of when I hear [name_m]Link[/name_m] is the literal word so it’s a no for me.

One of my kids also loves this name. I think [name_m]Lincoln[/name_m] is big right now yes but not as big as you think… I know one? But I’ve never actually met him… I think hes8? Or so… I know a lot of children… A lot… And like I said… I this k I’ve only heard of the one. I know dash too though not short for a nything… I think its fine

Go for it! I also prefer [name_m]Link[/name_m] to [name_m]Lincoln[/name_m].

I know a [name_m]Link[/name_m] who is 3.5 years old. His parents are alternative. He was openly named after the character. His older sister is named after a character as well.

I love [name_m]Link[/name_m]! I much prefer it to [name_m]Lincoln[/name_m]. I think it’s sweet and spunky, and definitely can stand alone.

[name_m]Link[/name_m] is a great name. The fact that it is a short form for a longer name is not a huge deal. Your son will grow up where [name_m]Liam[/name_m] outranks [name_m]William[/name_m], and you are about as likely to meet a [name_m]Jack[/name_m] as a [name_m]John[/name_m].

I think [name_m]Link[/name_m] is actually really cool! I’m not a fan of [name_m]Lincoln[/name_m] either but I love [name_m]Link[/name_m] by itself.

My association with the name would actually be with the musical, Hairspray!

i think it has a very cool vibe, probably wouldn’t pick it myself, but very usable

A child in my son’s class was called Lynk. I always thought it was a cool name and once linked to a person it becomes a name. I think [name_m]Link[/name_m] / Lynk stands on its own.
