Linus and Cyrus

Is [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m] too similiar to be a sibling name for [name_m]Linus[/name_m]? We have a [name_m]Linus[/name_m] but call him [name_f]Lou[/name_f] after his middle name. Wanting to maybe use [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m] after my older brother and call him [name_m]Cy[/name_m].

I really like the name [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m] but it’s a too close to [name_m]Linus[/name_m] to be usable as a sibset IMO, sorry.

I think if [name_m]Linus[/name_m] goes almost exclusively by [name_f]Lou[/name_f] it’s fine! Otherwise I think they’re too similar.

[name_f]My[/name_f] test is if they’ll mishear each other’s names as their own (like you call “Linus” or “Cyrus” at a park or from another room, both kids will respond because they won’t be sure who you want) then the names are too close. I do think that’s the case here, unless they always go by nicknames.

They are similar, but if [name_m]Linus[/name_m] goes by [name_f]Lou[/name_f] pretty much exclusively, it could work.

I’m not sure I would personally do it, but I have met sibs with names as similar as this.

Could you consider something that gives you the ‘Cy’ nickname - or use [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m] as a middle name?

(Something like [name_m]Percy[/name_m] [name_m]Russ[/name_m], [name_m]Quincy[/name_m] [name_m]Russ[/name_m], [name_m]Cyril[/name_m] [name_m]Magnus[/name_m], [name_m]Casper[/name_m] [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m], [name_m]Cedric[/name_m] [name_m]Russ[/name_m] etc?)

[name_m]Way[/name_m] too close. And yes he goes by [name_f]Lou[/name_f] today but what if HE decides (even tomorrow) he likes [name_m]Linus[/name_m] more. I just wouldn’t.

They’re too close for me. [name_m]Linus[/name_m] may not always go by [name_f]Lou[/name_f], and that’s enough to deem them too similar.

[name_m]Linus[/name_m] and [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m] are very similar, but [name_f]Lou[/name_f] and [name_m]Cy[/name_m] work well together. Would you consider [name_m]Cy[/name_m] on its own?

Is [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m] your brother’s name, or is it an indirect honor name? What name do you want to honor?

@Greyblue shared many great ideas! As a full name for [name_m]Cy[/name_m] you may also like [name_f]Darcy[/name_f], [name_m]Clancy[/name_m], [name_m]Cyan[/name_m], [name_f]Hyacinth[/name_f], [name_m]Clay[/name_m], [name_m]Clyde[/name_m], [name_m]Colby[/name_m] and [name_m]Casey[/name_m].
You can also consider [name_m]Sylvan[/name_m] or [name_m]Sylvester[/name_m] nn Cy/Sy.

I think they are too close as well but needed affirmation, so thank you. [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m] is my actual brothers name. I’ve thrown out [name_m]Cy[/name_m] as an option to my husband but he’s a no on that one. Feeling very stuck on boy names.
We just agreed our other name we sort of liked, [name_m]Abel[/name_m] doesn’t go with our last name so that’s out as a contender.

What about [name_m]Cyrano[/name_m] nn [name_m]Cy[/name_m] or [name_m]Cyprian[/name_m] nn [name_m]Cy[/name_m]?

[name_m]Linus[/name_m] and [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m] are pretty close - so I wouldn’t use them personally.

I think [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m] has some alternatives that could work though

[name_m]Cyril[/name_m]
[name_m]Cecil[/name_m]

I don’t mind it! I really love both names. [name_f]Lou[/name_f] and [name_m]Cy[/name_m] is adorable.
