Lio as a Nickname for a boy Linden?

[name_m]Linden[/name_m] and [name_m]Lio[/name_m] are two of my favorite boy names. But I think [name_m]Lio[/name_m] is too short and while I like [name_m]Elio[/name_m], it does not really fit what I’m looking for. [name_m]Linden[/name_m] has a ton of potential nicknames (Lin, [name_f]Lindy[/name_f], Denny) but [name_m]Lio[/name_m] is possibly a more masculine spin? I know it’s not the most organic nickname in the world but is it too much of a stretch? If you met a [name_m]Linden[/name_m] that went by [name_m]Lio[/name_m] or saw a mom who was calling her little [name_m]Linden[/name_m] by [name_m]Lio[/name_m] would you think it was strange?

I don’t think it’s a stretch, very cute!

I think it works! Not the most intuitive like you acknowledge, but definitely not strange at all.

I think it works! If the middle name or surname have an O somewhere, it would be amazing.

I wouldn’t think it strange, especially with an O middle name (Linden [name_m]Oscar[/name_m], [name_m]Linden[/name_m] Otto)

I think it could work but is a stretch. I would be concerned that I would be giving him a name that almost ALWAYS has to be explained/spelled out which could be exhausting after a while, although it probably depends on where you live. Most people would assume his name is [name_m]Leo[/name_m]. I think naming him Lio/Leo would be easier to maneuver than naming him [name_m]Linden[/name_m] and calling him [name_m]Lio[/name_m]. [name_m]Or[/name_m] naming him [name_m]Linden[/name_m] and calling him one of the more intuitive nicknames.

Heard on your point @WhiteGardenia . I’ve never liked the mindset of people who try “make fetch happen” when it comes to a nickname, so to speak. I’m fine with trying it out and maybe it’s meant to be just a family nickname only mom uses and not trying to make it a thing that would really NEED to be spelled often. For example, I have a relative whose nickname is “BJ” because those are his initials and he was given it as a baby before all of this internet slang type stuff was even thought about. And so for obvious reasons he doesn’t go by that with friends, but it isn’t uncommon for close older relatives to call him that. The upside I see with [name_m]Lio[/name_m], though, is that it is usable in everyday life if he wants to. So if he decides he doesn’t like the softer boy name trend that we’re all in these days, there will be a more masculine nickname that he’s already used to that he can use for short.

I love it! I feel like we have a similar name style with what we like!

Definitely think [name_m]Linden[/name_m] nickname [name_m]Lio[/name_m] works great! Not a stretch at all

Sort of reminds me of [name_m]Elliot[/name_m] nn [name_m]Leo[/name_m] that I considered a while back… I think it is a bit of a stretch but not crazy for sure. I don’t know that I’d nn a [name_m]Linden[/name_m], but I think it definitely makes sense for [name_m]Linden[/name_m] + an O name like [name_m]Linden[/name_m] [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] or [name_m]Linden[/name_m] [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] or [name_m]Linden[/name_m] [name_m]Otto[/name_m].

Good luck!

I think it works! I guess you could use a middle beginning with O to make it more obvious?

It depends on how often the nickname is used I suppose.

For me it would be a bit strange since [name_m]Leo[/name_m] is usually a name on its own (at least in my community). I can understand something like [name_m]Leonardo[/name_m] or [name_m]Leandro[/name_m] with [name_m]Leo[/name_m] as a nickname, but [name_m]Linden[/name_m] seems like a totally different name to me, unrelated to Lio/Leo.

If [name_m]Lio[/name_m] is the name you predominantly intend to use, and you want other people to address him as that, then I would just skip [name_m]Linden[/name_m] and put [name_m]Lio[/name_m] on the birth certificate.

[name_m]Lio[/name_m] might work as a nickname if you use a middle name with a long O sound, something like……
Lind3n [name_m]Orion[/name_m]
Lind3n [name_m]Otis[/name_m]
Lind3n [name_m]Osiris[/name_m]
Lind3n [name_m]Orlando[/name_m]
Lind3n [name_m]Oberon[/name_m]
Lind3n [name_m]Oren[/name_m]
Lind3n [name_m]Oakley[/name_m]
Lind3n [name_m]Orion[/name_m]
Lind3n [name_m]Odin[/name_m]
Lind3n [name_m]Olin[/name_m]

[name_f]Love[/name_f] linden and the nickname :evergreen_tree:

I think it could work. Everyone will have their own opinions. What works for you. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you feel comfortable and confident with this name paired with the nickname?
I’ve met people with a nickname not at all associated with their real name.
And a lot of nicknames basically added an “ee” sound to the end like Sammy/sami, [name_m]Danny[/name_m], leni, [name_m]Ollie[/name_m], [name_f]Livy[/name_f] etc. so I think you could add another sounding end to the name like “oh” for [name_m]Lio[/name_m] and it would be fine!
