I know everyone has strong opinions about the premptive nick name. I like the meaning of [name]Liora[/name] “light that was given to me” and that it is a Hebrew name because Im Jewish. And a big plus, it is a reworking of my mothers name, [name]Leah[/name].
Yet, [name]Liora[/name] does seem a bit old and I love the name [name]Rory[/name], plus it works well with our last name because my hubby is Irish.
Is it wrong to like a nn more than the actual name?
(And I personally don’t believe it’s wrong to love a nickname more than the regular name. I love the concept of ‘sunday names’. For instance my second favorite girls name in the world is [name]Frances[/name]- but what I love even more [name]Francie[/name]!
I think they’re really good together! [name]Liora[/name] is so pretty, and [name]Rory[/name] is the perfect nickname for if she turns out to be really spunky and tomboyish, or even if she’s girly as well! I say go for it
I like [name]Liora[/name] but I don’t think [name]Rory[/name] works as a nickname for it. [name]Leo[/name] and [name]Ora[/name] make sense to me, but not [name]Rory[/name].
I love everything about this name and the reasons you chose it! I don’t think there’s anything wrong with liking the nn more than the full name, but I suspect once it’s actually your daughter’s name, you’ll love it as much as (or more than) [name]Rory[/name].
And I just wanted to add that I think Rory is perfectly acceptable as a nn for Liora. On the show Gilmore Girls, the daughter’s name is Lorelei (sort of a similar sound to Liora) and her nn is Rory. People have nns for all sorts of reasons – not all of them come directly from their name – so I think whatever nn you want and comes naturally to you is perfectly fine.
It’s my sister’s name, and she’s also named after a [name]Leah[/name] She goes by [name]Lili[/name], at least among the family, but i think [name]Rory[/name] works pretty well, especially if it’s a nod to your husband’s heritage. [name]Liora[/name] [name]Jane[/name] rolls off the tongue!
