Liora?

I just came across this name today on the forums. What do you guys think of this for a first name? It seems really unique and my first impression was that I really like it! We are TTC and I’m trying to come up with a girl’s name. We have a son, [name]Silas[/name] [name]Derrick[/name]. Our boys name if we have another will be [name]Callum[/name] [name]Theodore[/name]. Other names on our girls short list are: [name]Adelaide[/name] (family name), [name]Hattie[/name], and [name]Sylvie[/name].

If [name]Liora[/name] ends up on the list, what about nicknames and middle names?

Thanks guys!

Anyone?

I like [name]Liora[/name] a lot! I prefer [name]Elora[/name] and [name]Eliora[/name], but just [name]Liora[/name] is adorable, and [name]Silas[/name] and [name]Liora[/name] makes for a very interesting, cool sibset! [name]Silas[/name], [name]Callum[/name], and [name]Liora[/name] is lovely, too. I think [name]Liora[/name] [name]Adelaide[/name] and [name]Liora[/name] [name]Sylvie[/name] are really cute. If you don’t use a family name, [name]Liora[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name] was my first idea. I also like [name]Liora[/name] [name]Violet[/name], [name]Liora[/name] [name]Camille[/name], [name]Liora[/name] [name]Corinne[/name], and [name]Liora[/name] [name]Scarlett[/name].

For nns, I don’t think it really needs one, but you could do [name]Lili[/name] (lee-lee, or it could be like [name]Lily[/name]…), [name]Lila[/name] (said like [name]LY[/name]-lah or [name]LEE[/name]-lah), [name]Lora[/name]… I wouldn’t do Lior since it’s traditionally a Hebrew boys’ name.

Good luck!

[name]Callum[/name] and [name]Silas[/name] sound great together! I think they’ve got a slightly nostalgic (but not dated), borderline [name]Americana[/name] sound–rough-and-tumbly, yet soft, natural and relaxed. With them, I really like [name]Adelaide[/name] ([name]Addie[/name] is cute, and it’s got history) and I really like [name]Hattie[/name], though I think it merits a full name like [name]Harriet[/name], [name]Henrietta[/name], or even [name]Mathilda[/name] (via [name]Mattie[/name]). I like [name]Silvie[/name] with [name]Silas[/name] sweet, too; I think the alliteration is cute, but I worry it could maybe be a little distracting from the individual beauty of each name.

[name]IMO[/name] [name]Liora[/name] doesn’t fit that well with [name]Silas[/name] (or [name]Callum[/name], in case there’s another boy down the line). It’s much heavier, from (to my ear) distinctly different backgrounds, and a little frillier than any of your less fussy, vintage-y choices. I think [name]Linnea[/name] (love this with [name]Silas[/name]!), [name]Lydia[/name], [name]Leah[/name], [name]Sorcha[/name] (got that alliteration thing like [name]Silvie[/name]), [name]Amelia[/name] (little common these days?), or [name]Marilla[/name] have sort of similar qualities sound-wise, but better fit the style/vibe of your son’s name and other choices.

Best wishes!

[name]Ash[/name], thanks for the nn and mn suggestions. I also love [name]Elora[/name].

Ellenelle- I agree that I’m not sure [name]Liora[/name] fits well with [name]Silas[/name] and [name]Callum[/name] (which I am set on and already love together!). I just can’t quite find a girl name that fits with these two. [name]Do[/name] you think [name]Elora[/name] would lighten [name]Liora[/name] up enough to fit in with [name]Silas[/name] and [name]Callum[/name]? Maybe I will just stick with [name]Adelaide[/name] which is my DH’s fav anyway. I also love [name]Hattie[/name], but don’t like [name]Harriet[/name] and am sure about how [name]Hatti[/name]

I love nameberry, you guys give such thoughtful commentary. I will always go here with name suggestions first before making a decision!

Any other suggestions to go with [name]Silas[/name] and [name]Callum[/name] would be much appreciated! You never know when a name is going to jump out at you, and it’s important to me to have names that share the same vibe.

I think [name]Elora[/name] would soften the name a lot, and I happen to like [name]Eliora[/name] a lot as well. I don’t care for [name]Liora[/name] because it looks so much like [name]Lion[/name]. It would be pretty easy to mis-read the name as [name]Liona[/name], but either way I think [name]Liora[/name] and [name]Liona[/name] look pretty ferocious.

[name]Silas[/name], [name]Callum[/name] and [name]Elora[/name] are a very nice set IMHO. Very underused names and you’re unlikely to get anyone who thinks they are “weird.”

[name]Elora[/name] is pretty, but I still don’t love it with the boys’ names. Like, I like [name]Silas[/name] and [name]Liora[/name], but not with [name]Callum[/name]. I think [name]Elora[/name] and [name]Callum[/name] are nice, but I don’t love them with [name]Silas[/name]… Clearly what goes with Silas is a little more important, since he’s already kickin’, haha. A celebrity recently used [name]Hattie[/name] as a first name, so there are definitely people who would give [name]Hattie[/name] their blessing. I still like [name]Adelaide[/name] (you don’t sound so excited about it–I hope you would be!). I think [name]Adelaide[/name] [name]Liora[/name] could be okay, though it’s a bit of a mouthful.

More suggestions: [name]Alma[/name], [name]Emmeline[/name], [name]Ada[/name] (homage to [name]Adelaide[/name]?), [name]Laure[/name] (technically not quite the same background as [name]Callum[/name] and [name]Silas[/name], but I think it’s similarly simple, graceful, spunky, got the main sound of [name]Elora[/name] and [name]Liora[/name], got a little [name]Laura[/name] Ingalls folksy vibe, etc–I love [name]Laure[/name]!), [name]Cora[/name] or [name]Coralie[/name], [name]June[/name], [name]Rebecca[/name], [name]Willa[/name] (really like this with [name]Silas[/name]), [name]Cassidy[/name] (maybe [name]Cassia[/name] would work, too), [name]Rosalie[/name] (sounds sweet with the boys), and [name]Winona[/name] (nn [name]Winnie[/name]; I think its current celebrity bearers are less and less in the spotlight, so it’s a pretty unusual choice).
