Little sister for Calvin

We are pretty stuck with coming up with a name for our daughter due in [name_u]August[/name_u] 2019. Rules are no ending in N or starting in H and nothing in the social security top 100 list. My husband likes strong vintage names ([name_f]Ruth[/name_f] is his favorite but that will be her middle name after my grandmother). We both like [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] but our moms collectively vetoed it. I’d really prefer not to start with C because my son is [name_m]Calvin[/name_m] and my husband is [name_u]Corey[/name_u], but the front runner from my mom right now is [name_f]Celeste[/name_f]. At least its a soft C instead of a hard one like [name_m]Calvin[/name_m] and [name_u]Corey[/name_u]. I love [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] but no one else does. Nothing too out there or too trendy. Any ideas and/or thoughts on [name_m]Calvin[/name_m] and [name_f]Celeste[/name_f]?

People love or hate alliteration when it comes to names. It’s a tough one. I say pick the name you love the most regardless of the ‘C’ issue.
I think [name_f]Celeste[/name_f] is very pretty! I have [name_f]Celine[/name_f] on my short list. Somewhat similar names.
If [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] is on the top of your list what about: [name_f]Phillipa[/name_f], [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f], or a [name_f]Pru[/name_f] ([name_f]Prudence[/name_f]).

[name_f]Celeste[/name_f] and [name_m]Calvin[/name_m] are sweet - I like that the sounds at the beginning are different

The name that sprang to mind was [name_f]Estelle[/name_f] - vintage and unique, like [name_f]Celeste[/name_f] but not beginning with C? [name_f]Esther[/name_f] and [name_f]Estella[/name_f] are similar choices too. [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] or [name_f]Elise[/name_f] perhaps might be options too?

[name_f]Viola[/name_f] [name_f]Ruth[/name_f]

[name_m]Calvin[/name_m] and [name_f]Olive[/name_f] is cute. Maybe [name_m]Calvin[/name_m] and [name_f]Cora[/name_f], [name_u]Juniper[/name_u], [name_f]Estella[/name_f], [name_f]Esther[/name_f], or [name_f]Eva[/name_f].

I am not sure why your mothers have any say in the name. They already had the opportunity to name their own children. If you both like [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] that is all that matters. Also, if you prefer not to start with C why is a name your mom chose that starts with a C the front runner. It seems like you aren’t being allowed to name your own child.

I think [name_m]Calvin[/name_m] and [name_f]Celeste[/name_f] are lovely together

I also really like [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]!!

Seconding [name_f]Estelle[/name_f] and [name_f]Elise[/name_f]! [name_f]Estelle[/name_f] [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] and [name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] sound very pretty to me.

I also really like [name_f]Celeste[/name_f]! [name_f]Celeste[/name_f] [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] is very cute and pretty.

[name_f]Celeste[/name_f] is beautiful but I think avoiding the C initial is a valid point for you (and YOUR opinion, plus your husband’s, are the only ones that really matter).

I definitely say forget what your mothers said and put [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] back in the running. It’s great with [name_m]Calvin[/name_m]. Unless it has some terrible association for your mothers (like someone who died horrifically, not like a lady at work who sneezed weirdly) then I don’t think they should get to veto it.

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there.

[name_m]Calvin[/name_m] is a great name. [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] would be stunning as his sister. [name_f]Celeste[/name_f] is nice too, but it doesn’t flow that well w/[name_f]Ruth[/name_f]. I’m not sure how much that matters to you. I wouldn’t worry too much about all of the 'C’s if it’s the name that you really love. [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] is adorable w/[name_m]Calvin[/name_m] & the mn [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] too in my opinion.

I like [name_m]Calvin[/name_m] and [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], or [name_m]Calvin[/name_m] and [name_u]Eloise[/name_u], as was mentioned. I’m actually a big fan of the idea of [name_m]Calvin[/name_m] and [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], but I have no idea where [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] falls on the charts. I am not personally a big fan of [name_f]Celeste[/name_f], but more importantly: how do you and your husband feel about it? While it can be validating when our parents (or anyone!) likes the name we pick, they don’t get a vote. If you happen to fall in love with a name they suggest though then that’s great  Frankly even though I’m not a fan of [name_f]Celeste[/name_f], it’s a better name than what my [name_f]MIL[/name_f] has come up for baby #2 (she literally suggested the name Hoss…so yep, [name_f]Celeste[/name_f] is better than Hoss).

I think [name_m]Calvin[/name_m] and [name_f]Celeste[/name_f] go together nicely!!

Is there a legitimate reason why [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] was vetoed? If not, I would put it back as a contender. [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] is beautiful and goes well with [name_m]Calvin[/name_m]. This is why we didn’t tell anyone the name of our daughter until she was born - we didn’t want any negative reactions or anyone making alternative suggestions to our choice.

PLEASE USE THE NAMES YOUAND YOUR HUSBAND LIKE. It is your baby.
grandparents have had their turn. [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] sounds lovely.

Thanks for the amazing responses! I should have mentioned that my mother provides countless hours of free childcare (twice a week plus some nights and overnights) saving us literally thousands of dollars. We told her she could have veto rights. I came up with [name_f]Celeste[/name_f], she just latched onto it as her favorite. My Mother-in-[name_m]Law[/name_m] gets no say normally, [name_f]Louise[/name_f] is her middle name and she has always hated it, so while she doesn’t have veto rights, we would always know that our daughter’s name would feel like a slap in the face to her. Otherwise I would totally agree with everyone on the grandparents don’t get to decide card.
