Little sister for Eliza?

DD is named [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and we are hoping you can help us find the best name match for her little sister, who will be joining us early summer.

We want LO#2’s name to be like [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] in that it is familiar and classic but with a modern, spunky twist. We are also looking at names that are more than one syllable to better flow with our short last name, and would like to refrain from using another E if possible. Additionally, it would be great if the ending is different than the –a ending of [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]. Our last name rhymes with [name_f]Jane[/name_f] and starts with a C.

Here is our short list as it stands today:

[name_f]Alexandra[/name_f]/[name_u]Alexis[/name_u] (nn: [name_u]Alex[/name_u])
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] (nn: [name_u]Charlie[/name_u])
[name_f]Caroline[/name_f]
[name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] (nn:[name_f]Vivi[/name_f])

Already I am sure you can see that [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] doesn’t quite fit the bill on the different than –a ending, so I am toying with using [name_u]Alexis[/name_u] instead even though I worry it sounds a bit dated. I try not to be too swayed by popularity, although the fact that I personally know of 6 Charlottes under the age of 2 is a bit worrisome to me. None of them go by [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] however, and we would intend on using that nickname from the get go. I can tell that DH isn’t quite as enthusiastic about [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], mostly because there isn’t any great nickname that we know of, but he hasn’t come out and actually said so yet…so I am still keeping it in the mix for now. As far as [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] goes, I wonder if the –ne ending is too similar sounding to the –ne of our last name.

Would love your thoughts on these names and any other suggestions you might have on names that would sound great with [name_f]Eliza[/name_f].

Thanks in advance!

Hmm I like [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] but that is my least favorite with your last name. [name_m]Alexandre[/name_m]/[name_u]Alexis[/name_u] doesn’t give me the same ‘modern, spunky twist’ feel as [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]. Neither does [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] exactly (feels a bit more romantic than spunky to me), but with the nickname [name_f]Vivi[/name_f] I think it works. I think [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] nn [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] works well.

I usually think of these names as matching well with [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]'s spunk:

[name_f]Audrey[/name_f]
[name_f]Margot[/name_f]
[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f]
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f]
[name_f]Madeline[/name_f]
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u]
[name_f]Tess[/name_f]

[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and [name_u]Alexis[/name_u] actually sound the best together from your list. [name_f]Love[/name_f] love [name_u]Alex[/name_u] as a nn. Good luck

I agree with @stacielynne I love the sound of [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and [name_u]Alexis[/name_u]! perfect

I disagree on [name_u]Alexis[/name_u]. I find [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and [name_u]Alexis[/name_u] a little too melodic when said together, and I also find [name_u]Alexis[/name_u] to be much more modern and, frankly, unisex than [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]. Something’s just off for me on that one. If [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] isn’t working, and you want a non-a name, what about [name_f]Abigail[/name_f], [name_f]Amabel[/name_f], [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], or [name_f]Adeline[/name_f]?

[name_f]Caroline[/name_f] is probably my least favorite with your last name, though you could shorten it to [name_u]Caro[/name_u], [name_f]Carrie[/name_f], [name_f]Cara[/name_f], [name_f]Clio[/name_f], etc. [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] is perfectly in tune with [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]'s style, and though she’s a hot riser, if you don’t have other [name_u]Charlie[/name_u]'s, it could be a good one. Would it bug you to have one daughter go nearly exclusively by a nickname and [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] not? (Now I’m not sure if you said [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] went by [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] - sorry!) If your last name is what I think it is, [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] works just fine with it. There’s something different in the rhythm of [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] and [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] that makes one work better than the other. I would say [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] feels a little more cozy than [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f]'s glam image, but both work together, still.

Other ideas:

[name_f]Audrey[/name_f]
[name_f]Cecily[/name_f] ([name_f]Cece[/name_f])
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f] (Lissy)
[name_f]Juliet[/name_f] ([name_u]Jules[/name_u])
[name_f]Katharine[/name_f] ([name_u]Kit[/name_u])
[name_f]Lucille[/name_f] ([name_f]Lucy[/name_f])
[name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] ([name_f]Maggie[/name_f], [name_f]Meg[/name_f], [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], [name_f]Pearl[/name_f])
[name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] ([name_u]Romy[/name_u], [name_f]Rosie[/name_f])

[name_m]Lemon[/name_m]

You guys are good :). Thanks so much for the feedback. [name_m]Lemon[/name_m] I so appreciate your detail in explaining what makes [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] a bit off when combined with our last name, and I totally agree. [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] does work a bit better despite having a similar ending to [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], but it does work somehow.

I am not sure why I am so hung up on a nickname. It is funny because we chose [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] thinking we would call her by a nickname and had a few loaded in our arsenal…but they have never been touched! I do not have a name that lends itself to a nickname, so I am probably projecting a bit here because I always wanted one! I am definitely okay with LO#2 having a nickname even though [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] might not, and I am actually great with a more unisex name with LO#2.

[name_f]Lucy[/name_f], [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] and [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] have peaked my interest–more to ponder over! thanks again!

I like [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and [name_f]Caroline[/name_f].

Ideas:
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and [name_f]Audrey[/name_f]
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and [name_f]Natalie[/name_f]
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and [name_f]Maria[/name_f]/[name_f]Mary[/name_f]
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and [name_f]Tess[/name_f]
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and [name_f]Isabel[/name_f]
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and [name_f]Abigail[/name_f]
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and [name_f]Grace[/name_f]

For what it’s worth, I’m an [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] nn [name_u]Alex[/name_u], and I love my name! [name_u]Alexis[/name_u] does feel a little dated, and [name_f]Alexa[/name_f] is too similar to [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] would be my second choice for you, because the nn [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] is so cute. I like [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] a lot as a name, but I agree that it might not sound great with your last name (same with [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f]) and doesn’t have many easy nicknames except [name_f]Carrie[/name_f], which I’m not a fan of.

[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] is a lovely name, and [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] is wonderful with it. Some other suggestions (sorry for any repeats):
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f]
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Georgiana[/name_f]
[name_f]Violet[/name_f]
[name_f]Marianne[/name_f]
[name_f]Amabel[/name_f]
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]
[name_f]Adeline[/name_f]
[name_f]Julia[/name_f]
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]
[name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_f]Clementine[/name_f]
[name_f]Mathilde[/name_f]
[name_f]Clara[/name_f]
[name_f]Constance[/name_f]
[name_f]Jane[/name_f]

Good luck with your search!

I vote from your list is [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]. I like the nn [name_f]Coco[/name_f] or [name_f]Carly[/name_f]…but that’s just me! Other names I like with [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] are…
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u]
[name_f]Sally[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f]
[name_f]Hattie[/name_f]
[name_f]Lola[/name_f]
[name_f]Molly[/name_f]
[name_f]Mary[/name_f]
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f]
I love [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] together! Good luck!

I always thought that [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] would be a nice sister pair. Repeating sounds (z and el) but different names and both similar vintage.

Suggestions (sorry for any repeats)
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and -
[name_f]Lily[/name_f]

[name_f]Chloe[/name_f]
[name_f]Zoe[/name_f]
[name_f]Molly[/name_f]
[name_f]Mariel[/name_f]

I like [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] best from your list, I also like [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] and [name_f]Hazel[/name_f]. Though I feel [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] is a bit to matching in looks and if you have another child, a girl, you could be setting yourself up for heartache to match. Also here are some more options:

[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and [name_f]Alice[/name_f] (though some may say they are too close I love [name_f]Alice[/name_f] with [name_f]Eliza[/name_f])
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and [name_u]Rue[/name_u]
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and [name_f]Nora[/name_f]
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and [name_f]Claire[/name_f]
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and [name_f]Beth[/name_f] ( I know, I know, but for some reason I really like the pairing, gee wonder why!).
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and [name_f]Sarah[/name_f]
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and [name_f]Tansy[/name_f]
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and [name_f]Ziza[/name_f]
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and [name_f]Ivy[/name_f]
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f]

I think [name_u]Alexis[/name_u] sounds too much like [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]. I really like [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] nn [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] and [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] with [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]. Have you thought of using the nicknames [name_f]Carrie[/name_f]/[name_f]Cari[/name_f] or [name_f]Cara[/name_f] for [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]?

[name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] &:

[name_f]Maggie[/name_f] ([name_f]Margaret[/name_f])
[name_f]Grace[/name_f]
[name_u]Abby[/name_u] ([name_f]Abigail[/name_f])
[name_f]Emma[/name_f]
[name_f]Juliet[/name_f]
[name_f]Valerie[/name_f]
[name_f]Carolyn[/name_f] ([name_f]Carrie[/name_f]?)
[name_u]Brooke[/name_u]

[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] is beautiful. I like the suggestions [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f], violet, [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] and [name_f]Audrey[/name_f]. What about [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f], [name_f]Chloe[/name_f], [name_f]Claire[/name_f] as modern classic without -a ending? I also like [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] with [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], they both are short but with 3 syllables and have an unrushed sound to the pronunciation.

A lot of these suggested names I love but are already taken in our larger extended family. I have added [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] to the list. I forgot about it completely even though it was on our short list for LO#1.

I too absolutely [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] the name [name_f]Coco[/name_f]–and had it slotted for a nickname for [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], [name_f]Cosette[/name_f] or [name_f]Colette[/name_f] and then realized that it would NOT work with our last name. Pretty bad, right?? I also love [name_f]Lola[/name_f] and was thinking it could work for a different nickname option for [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] in addition to [name_u]Charlie[/name_u]. When I mentioned that to DH he said absolutely not–that [name_f]Lola[/name_f] sounds too sexy?!? Really?

I do agree that [name_u]Alexis[/name_u] is too similar sounding with [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]…and I cannot get over that it just feels dated to me. And I wish I could get behind the possible given nicknames for [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] ([name_f]Cara[/name_f], [name_f]Carrie[/name_f]) but I just can’t for some reason. DH unfortunately vetoed [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] and [name_f]Audrey[/name_f]. So the list is looking this way now:

[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] ([name_u]Charlie[/name_u], [name_f]Lola[/name_f])
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] ([name_f]Vivi[/name_f])
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]/[name_f]Lucie[/name_f]
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] (just deal with the matching a’s and hope it doesn’t bother me as we will be calling her [name_u]Alex[/name_u]?)

Was also wondering about one of the suggested names–[name_f]Tess[/name_f]. Are there fuller names that match what we are looking for, that would give us the nickname [name_f]Tess[/name_f]?

[name_m]New[/name_m] idea: thoughts on Luciennne? I feel like it might work?

Thanks again for your help!

Um two ns not three…sorry. [name_f]Lucienne[/name_f]

I think [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] (as a stand alone, or a nickname) are just perfect together,
good luck!
I just think that they are similar feeling, but with different sounds, syllables and letter counts (if that matters to you ha ha).
