Little sister for. Freya

My daughter is named [name_f]Freya[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f] [name_f]Lowry[/name_f]
[name_f]Marie[/name_f] after my husbands granny.
My husband has fallen in love with the name [name_f]Xanthe[/name_f] (zan-thee)
The initials slightly worry me… What do you think?
I also like [name_u]Rory[/name_u] and [name_u]Remy[/name_u] for a girl. We live in [name_f]Ireland[/name_f] so Irish names (with spelling) might suit us well to esp as my last little girl and I have red hair… This one is bound to too.
Thank you!!

I love [name_f]Xanthe[/name_f]. But [name_f]Xanthe[/name_f] [name_f]Lowry[/name_f] does not flow. When you add the XL possibility, I don’t think it’s worth it. If she is even a little bit chubby having initials like XL could be rough. :frowning:

Thank you for your feedback… Any suggestions to go with our surname?

[name_f]Xanthe[/name_f] is not a name I’m a huge fan of, but it’s definitely a really neat unique name that totally has that “cool” factor. [name_f]Freya[/name_f] and [name_f]Xanthe[/name_f] sound like a couple of awesome, badass sisters to me! XL would definitely be rough…I don’t know, if there’s a possibility that she might be a little heavy it would definitely give me pause. I don’t think it’s a deal breaker, but something to consider. As the pp said, [name_f]Xanthe[/name_f] [name_f]Lowry[/name_f] doesn’t have the best flow, but I don’t think it’s awful and if you love it, also not a dealbreaker

I agree XL would be a tough load to carry for a girl. I also think [name_u]Rory[/name_u] [name_f]Lowry[/name_f] is much too rhyme-y, sing-songy. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like traditional Irish names?
[name_f]Roisin[/name_f] and [name_f]Aoife[/name_f] come to mind. [name_f]Brigid[/name_f] could be cool too.

[name_f]Freya[/name_f] actually has a Scandinavian flair, so you could go in that direction too.

Some other suggestions to go with [name_f]Freya[/name_f]:

[name_f]Margot[/name_f]
[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]
[name_f]Signe[/name_f]
[name_f]Maren[/name_f]

Good luck!

[name_f]Saoirse[/name_f] comes to mind, I love it with [name_f]Freya[/name_f] too. Although, in terms of the background of both names, they’re so different, I think it works well.

[name_f]Xanthe[/name_f] [name_f]Lowry[/name_f] (XL) would be hard for a girl to carry, even if she isn’t chunky. Kids can be cruel.

I also like [name_f]Freya[/name_f] and [name_f]Aoife[/name_f].

First off, your daughter’s name is beautiful! I love the name [name_f]Freya[/name_f] (wish I could use it).

I personally am not a big fan of [name_f]Xanthe[/name_f].

I love Irish/Gaelic names – but I don’t live in [name_f]Ireland[/name_f] so they would be considered for the most part quite unique.
[name_f]Roisin[/name_f], [name_f]Aoife[/name_f], [name_f]Siobhan[/name_f], [name_f]Niamh[/name_f].

Suggestions:
[name_f]Freya[/name_f] & [name_f]Aoife[/name_f]
[name_f]Freya[/name_f] & [name_f]Niamh[/name_f]
[name_f]Freya[/name_f] & [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f]
[name_f]Freya[/name_f] & [name_u]Everly[/name_u]
[name_f]Freya[/name_f] & [name_f]Bianca[/name_f]
[name_f]Freya[/name_f] & [name_f]Zara[/name_f]
[name_f]Freya[/name_f] & [name_f]Davina[/name_f]

[name_m]Hi[/name_m]!

If you like [name_f]Xanthe[/name_f], maybe change the spelling to avoid XL? To [name_f]Zanthe[/name_f] or [name_f]Ianthe[/name_f]? another thing you can do is give her the middle name [name_f]Xanthe[/name_f] but still call her that. In that way she would be known as Xante L… but on all official papers you won’t see initials XL.

Since you’re Irish/living in [name_f]Ireland[/name_f] I have a question for you. I live in [name_f]Ireland[/name_f] as well and we are wondering if the traditional boy name [name_m]Lochlainn[/name_m] would be acceptable for a girl as well? We think the pronunciation of Loklin has a nice female ring to it, but maybe we are really wrong since we’re not irish and it would be like we’re naming our daughter [name_m]Richard[/name_m] or something…

Thanks for all your responses. Greatly appreciate it! Yeah we have Viking blood in us that’s for sure and that’s were the red hair comes from so that’s why we liked [name_f]Freya[/name_f].

Re lochlain. I am a teacher and only heard it used for boys. I personally like boys names for girls (sometimes) it wouldn’t be one of my fav names but diff becoming trendier and quite cool for a girl the more I think of it.

The middle name idea is a good one too. That is v common practice in [name_f]Ireland[/name_f] esp our parents generation.

I love aoife and [name_f]Niamh[/name_f] and caoimhe etc but a lot of our friends have already called our children these names…

We like to be a bit different as my sisters and I had strange names for [name_f]Ireland[/name_f] in the 80s they are USA an Australia names but they did that on purpose so as not to be obviously one side of the community which was tricky in the 80s. I’m glad they did though. I liked our names being a bit different

I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Freya[/name_f]!

[name_f]Xanthe[/name_f] is a great name, but I agree with the PPs on the XL not being the greatest. Though, it could be usable as a middle name.
