[name]Hi[/name] everyone,
Our eldest is [name]Maeve[/name] [name]Emily[/name] and #2 is fast approaching. Names we like include (in no particular order) [name]Greta[/name], [name]Enid[/name], [name]Ivy[/name], [name]Ida[/name], [name]Frances[/name] but we are taking submissions on others! Preferred middle names will come from [name]Jane[/name], [name]Mary[/name] or [name]Margaret[/name].
[name]Just[/name] wanted to know what people thought …
[name]Hi[/name]!
First of all, I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Maeve[/name] [name]Emily[/name]! So gorgeous! Second of all, I adore all of the names on your list, too!
Now, on to narrowing. [name]Greta[/name], [name]Enid[/name], [name]Ivy[/name], [name]Ida[/name], [name]Frances[/name], let’s see… My favorites with [name]Maeve[/name] are [name]Greta[/name] and [name]Frances[/name]. [name]Enid[/name] is great, but a bit too “clunky” with [name]Maeve[/name] (I know that [name]Greta[/name] and [name]Frances[/name] are old fashioned- in a good way!- but [name]Enid[/name] feels more so to me…). [name]Ivy[/name] is also fantastic, but it shares the V with [name]Maeve[/name], so you may get stuck in a theme with V’s somewhere in the name… [name]Ida[/name] is fabulous, but maybe too uncommon with [name]Maeve[/name]?
Using variants of [name]Jane[/name], [name]Mary[/name], and [name]Margaret[/name], middles include:
[name]Greta[/name] [name]Jane[/name]
[name]Greta[/name] [name]Mary[/name]
[name]Greta[/name] [name]Marianne[/name]
[name]Greta[/name] [name]Rosemary[/name]
[name]Frances[/name] [name]Jane[/name]
[name]Frances[/name] [name]Johanna[/name]
[name]Frances[/name] [name]Mary[/name]
[name]Frances[/name] [name]Margaret[/name]
[name]Frances[/name] [name]Margot[/name]
[name]Frances[/name] [name]Marguerite[/name]
[name]Frances[/name] [name]Pearl[/name]
[name]Frances[/name] [name]Daisy[/name]
[name]Frances[/name] [name]Greta[/name]
?
Good luck!
some examples of combinations that we like are:
[name]Greta[/name] [name]Jane[/name]
[name]Greta[/name] [name]Mary[/name]
[name]Ivy[/name] [name]Margaret[/name]
[name]Ivy[/name] [name]Jane[/name]
[name]Ida[/name] [name]Margaret[/name]
[name]Ida[/name] [name]Jane[/name]
[name]Frances[/name] [name]Jane[/name]
[name]Mary[/name]-[name]Jane[/name]
My [name]Favorite[/name] is definitly [name]Ivy[/name] [name]Margaret[/name]! Feminine and strong , cute and yet traditional. It also matches nicely with [name]Maeve[/name], and will age well.
I love [name]Maeve[/name] [name]Emily[/name]!
You have a lot of darling names on your list:
[name]Greta[/name] [name]Jane[/name] – I am not a huge fan of [name]Greta[/name], but this combo is very nice!
[name]Greta[/name] [name]Mary[/name] – Ditto. I like it almost as much as [name]Greta[/name] [name]Jane[/name].
[name]Ivy[/name] [name]Margaret[/name] – My second favorite!
[name]Ivy[/name] [name]Jane[/name] – My favorite!
[name]Ida[/name] [name]Margaret[/name] – Ok.
[name]Ida[/name] [name]Jane[/name] – Nice!
[name]Frances[/name] [name]Jane[/name] – Cute. I also like [name]Francesca[/name] [name]Jane[/name].
[name]Mary[/name]-[name]Jane[/name] – My late mother’s name (w/o the hypen), which I love!
I think [name]Ivy[/name] [name]Jane[/name] or [name]Ivy[/name] [name]Margaret[/name] is PERFECT with [name]Maeve[/name]. I really like the “v” sound being repeated. That said, [name]Ivy[/name] has always felt a little short to me and so here are some thoughts (but I still really love [name]Ivy[/name]):
[name]Evelyn[/name]/[name]Evelina[/name] [name]Jane[/name]
[name]Olive[/name] [name]Margaret[/name]
[name]Vera[/name] [name]Margaret[/name] (or maybe [name]Daisy[/name]?)
I love [name]Frances[/name] [name]Jane[/name] with the nn [name]Frankie[/name]!
Totally Agree, [name]Frances[/name] [name]Jane[/name] is adorable!
~[name]Elena[/name]
[name]Greta[/name]- i like how different this one is but idk if it goes with [name]Maeve[/name]?
[name]Enid[/name]- i like this one too very pretty
[name]Ivy[/name]- im not big on this one seems a little to cold to me
[name]Ida[/name]- i like some of your others better
[name]Frances[/name]- i like this one the least b/c of the nn that will prolly form [name]Frankie[/name]. i don’t find it girly at all.
i love your mn and think that [name]Maeve[/name] and [name]Bryn[/name] sound very cute as a sibset
[name]Ivy[/name] [name]Margaret[/name] is my personal favorite combination!! It also flows so nicely with [name]Maeve[/name] [name]Emily[/name]!!
I like [name]Greta[/name] [name]Jane[/name]…very pretty name to go with [name]Maeve[/name] [name]Emily[/name], which I love!
[name]Greta[/name] [name]Jane[/name] is similar to [name]Margaret[/name] [name]Jane[/name]
[name]Rosemary[/name] [name]Jane[/name]
[name]Mary[/name] [name]Jane[/name]
[name]Ida[/name] [name]Jane[/name]
are there any combinations we are missing?
I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Maeve[/name]!
I really like your list, but I think [name]Greta[/name] and [name]Frances[/name] would be absolutely perfect with [name]Maeve[/name]. Since [name]Greta[/name] and [name]Margaret[/name] are the same name, you can’t really do [name]Greta[/name] [name]Margaret[/name] (and [name]Greta[/name] would be good for honoring a [name]Margaret[/name],too). Combos:
[name]Frances[/name] [name]Jane[/name]
[name]Frances[/name] [name]Margaret[/name]
[name]Frances[/name] [name]Marianne[/name]
[name]Frances[/name] [name]Miriam[/name]
[name]Frances[/name] [name]Rosemary[/name]
[name]Frances[/name] [name]Marguerite[/name]
[name]Non[/name]-family:
[name]Frances[/name] [name]Eleanor[/name]
[name]Frances[/name] [name]Claire[/name]
[name]Frances[/name] [name]Cordelia[/name]
[name]Frances[/name] [name]Louisa[/name]
[name]Greta[/name] [name]Jane[/name]
[name]Greta[/name] [name]Mary[/name]
[name]Greta[/name] [name]Miriam[/name]
[name]Greta[/name] [name]Rosemary[/name]
[name]Non[/name]-family:
[name]Greta[/name] [name]Naomi[/name]
[name]Greta[/name] [name]Eloise[/name]
[name]Greta[/name] [name]Siobhan[/name]
[name]Greta[/name] [name]Vivienne[/name]
[name]Frances[/name] & [name]Ivy[/name] pair up wonderfully with [name]Maeve[/name]:
I like [name]Frances[/name] [name]Jane[/name]
[name]Frances[/name] [name]Mary[/name]
[name]Frances[/name] [name]Marguerite[/name]
[name]Ivy[/name] [name]Jane[/name]
[name]Ivy[/name] [name]Margaret[/name]
[name]Ivy[/name] [name]Marguerite[/name]
good luck (:
Thanks everyone for your help … I think I have a top 3 now:
[name]Greta[/name] [name]Jane[/name]
[name]Ivy[/name] [name]Margaret[/name]
[name]Frances[/name] [name]Jane[/name]
You have lovely taste- probably why your wife trusts you to name your children! I am goinf to be v picky because all your choices are wonderful.
[name]Ivy[/name] [name]Margaret[/name]- I love the name [name]Ivy[/name] but it is rising in popularity and may go out of fashion a little in the future.
[name]Greta[/name] [name]Jane[/name]- another beautiful combination. [name]Greta[/name] can sound a little harsh though.
[name]Frances[/name] [name]Jane[/name]- not a spunky sounding as the above too but beautiful and classic, will never date.
I don’t know which combination I would pick!
I like both
[name]Greta[/name] [name]Jane[/name]
[name]Ivy[/name] [name]Margaret[/name]
both will age well also [name]Ivy[/name] is cute for a baby
My wife is not keen on [name]Frances[/name] at all - so I will have to let it go.
[name]Greta[/name], [name]Ivy[/name], [name]Ida[/name] have all made it and [name]Vera[/name] was also very well received.
They are all pretty ‘old school’ names which fit nicely with [name]Maeve[/name] (who also gets [name]Maisie[/name] a lot as a nn).
I have to agree that the only problem with [name]Greta[/name] is that it sounds harsh alongside the softness of [name]Maeve[/name]. [name]Ida[/name] probably suffers a similar fate but both are such lovely names and underused names which have the added bonus of paying homage to my mum and late grandmother.
[name]Ivy[/name] does look set to become very popular which is the reservation I have with it. I think its a great oldish type name but with the popularity of other short old names these days its a risk I am not sure I want to take.
[name]Vera[/name] seems to be the oldest sounding of all of them which I like - it also seems classy and [name]Vera[/name] [name]Jane[/name] does have a nice flow to it …
What are some other short, uncommon, classy old school names?
Its such a shame your wife shot down [name]Frances[/name], as that was one of my favourites on your list!
I adore [name]Ivy[/name], but I do agree with the others in that it is set to shoot up in popularity… which is such a shame, as [name]Maeve[/name] & [name]Ivy[/name] work so beautifully together.
[name]Vera[/name] [name]Jane[/name] is exquisite! Absoloutely gorgeous, and by far my favourite on your list. I think the occasional nickname of “V” is rather beautiful also.
Some other short “old school” names you may like:
[name]Flora[/name] / [name]Florence[/name]
[name]Esther[/name]
[name]Zelda[/name]
[name]Pearl[/name]
[name]Moira[/name]

[name]Alma[/name]
[name]Lois[/name]
[name]Mabel[/name]
[name]Ethel[/name]
[name]Ruth[/name]
[name]Liza[/name]
[name]Norma[/name] (a sweet way to use the more common [name]Nora[/name] as a nickname?)
[name]Luella[/name]
Those are the only ones that really popped out at me, I am sure there are many more.
I do love the idea of [name]Flora[/name], [name]Esther[/name], [name]Pearl[/name], [name]Zelda[/name], [name]Olive[/name], [name]Elsa[/name], [name]Nancy[/name] & [name]Lilith[/name] in particular as a sister for [name]Maeve[/name].
I hope I was of some help, and I really do love your [name]Vera[/name] [name]Jane[/name] combo!
have you thought of [name]Verity[/name] nn Verie or [name]Vera[/name]?
I love [name]Ivy[/name] [name]Margaret[/name]. I can definitely see [name]Maeve[/name] & [name]Ivy[/name] as a sibset.
I dont think you have to worry too much about [name]Ivy[/name] become super popular…I dont think that it will be in the top 100 anytime soon…
