I have a super crush on [name_f]Liv[/name_f]. I like the way it looks, the way it sounds, I like the meaning, I like that it’s not overly popular and that I might be able to get the DH to go for it. I’ve asked for full names for [name_f]Liv[/name_f] before, and even though I’m not 100% in love with it, I do like [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]. If this name weren’t so popular, I’d love it. I would be sold! But, I’m sure there are many little [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]'s out there going by [name_f]Liv[/name_f]. So can [name_f]Liv[/name_f] stand alone? If I did use [name_f]Liv[/name_f], would she be one of a few growing up due to “[name_f]Liv[/name_f]'s” that are [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]'s? Also- the boys names we’ve agreed on are all longer names that give us nicknames we like- that we intend on using full time- would it be silly to have a [name_m]Griffin[/name_m] called [name_u]Finn[/name_u] and just a [name_f]Liv[/name_f]? What other girls names are similar to [name_f]Liv[/name_f]?
Thanks so much!!
I think [name_f]Liv[/name_f] works greatly on its own! I’ve known two [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]'s that only went by [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], not [name_f]Liv[/name_f], or anything else. One was 6 and the other in her mid twenties.
I think choosing [name_f]Liv[/name_f] with sibling that have longer names is fine. I also think that simply [name_f]Liv[/name_f] is refreshing, and different on it’s own. I too have always loved [name_f]Liv[/name_f] thanks to [name_f]Liv[/name_f] [name_u]Tyler[/name_u].
Full names with the nn [name_f]Liv[/name_f]…
[name_f]Lavinia[/name_f]
[name_f]Livinia[/name_f]
[name_f]Livia[/name_f]
[name_f]Olive[/name_f]
[name_f]Alivia[/name_f]
Liviana
You also could double barrel the first name, with or without a hyphen in between.
[name_f]Liv[/name_f] is common as a stand-alone name in Scandinavia. The Norwegian actress [name_f]Liv[/name_f] Ullmann, for example, is just [name_f]Liv[/name_f]. I think it works well on its own.
Why not [name_f]Olive[/name_f]? It’s slightly less popular and can still get the (adorable) nickname [name_f]Liv[/name_f].
[name_m]Griffin[/name_m] “[name_u]Finn[/name_u]” and [name_f]Olive[/name_f] “[name_f]Liv[/name_f]” sound amazing together as siblings!

Technically it can, but it’s sort of brief. [name_m]Plenty[/name_m] of little [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]'s will be nn [name_f]Liv[/name_f], I think people will probably end up assuming that your [name_f]Liv[/name_f] is the same.
I love the symmetry of [name_m]Griffin[/name_m] and X, nn [name_u]Finn[/name_u] and [name_f]Liv[/name_f], I wouldn’t want to pass that up. FWIW, [name_f]Livia[/name_f] is my favorite way to get to [name_f]Liv[/name_f].
I live [name_f]Liv[/name_f] on its own but I do agree that people will probably assume it’s short for [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]. I also really like [name_f]Liv[/name_f] as a middle name.
Thanks all! I do like the suggestion of [name_f]Olive[/name_f], which I think is so sweet, but I’m not sure I can see myself with an [name_f]Olive[/name_f]. So cute though!
I like [name_f]Liv[/name_f] a bit more than I like [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] (and I usually prefer longer names, so this is an exception). Live is strong and sweet. Elegant. I’m thinking about [name_f]Liv[/name_f] [name_u]Tyler[/name_u] and [name_f]Arwen[/name_f].
I think [name_f]Liv[/name_f] can stand on it’s own - I think of [name_f]Liv[/name_f] [name_u]Tyler[/name_u] first though - but I tend to think it’s so short (I have issues with four letter or less names) that I’d probably want to go with fn & mn or fn & ln every time. I personally would also find it odd to have one child with a short nn name and one with a longer name with a nn. But, that’s just me I guess.
[name_m]Just[/name_m] a thought: If you like [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] as a longer version how about [name_f]Livia[/name_f]? [name_f]Livia[/name_f] [name_f]Drusilla[/name_f] was the wife of [name_m]Roman[/name_m] Emperor [name_m]Augustus[/name_m]. It’s very similar to [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] but has more of the [name_f]Liv[/name_f] spunk and a longer name. [name_f]Livia[/name_f] & [name_m]Griffin[/name_m] -> [name_f]Liv[/name_f] & [name_u]Finn[/name_u] would work really well.
Or you could do something a bit out there like [name_f]Zoe[/name_f] nn [name_f]Liv[/name_f] or [name_f]Vita[/name_f] nn [name_f]Liv[/name_f]. (Basically any name that means life as [name_f]Liv[/name_f] sounds like live and life = live sort of).
I like Steampunkleo’s suggestion of using [name_f]Olive[/name_f], nn [name_f]Liv[/name_f], but honestly [name_f]Liv[/name_f] could stand on it’s own easily. I know a couple [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]'s and only one goes by [name_f]Liv[/name_f], so I don’t think she would have a lot of people around her with the same name.
I think [name_f]Liv[/name_f] could absolutely stand on its own. So could [name_u]Finn[/name_u] as a matter of fact. If they are never going to be referred to as their full names, then why not?
If you do want the longer name, then you can choose from [name_f]Livinia[/name_f], [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], [name_f]Livia[/name_f], Liviana, Livina…
Thanks all! I’ll consider [name_f]Livia[/name_f].
I do think [name_f]Liv[/name_f] can stand on her own.
It’s a lovely name
I think [name_f]Liv[/name_f] is fine on her own with [name_m]Griffin[/name_m]"[name_u]Finn[/name_u]". [name_f]Livia[/name_f] is my favorite long form should you decide you need one.
