Liv pronunciation

Pretty sure we are going with [name_f]Liv[/name_f] [name_f]Aurora[/name_f]. [name_m]Just[/name_m] curious about thoughts on pronunciation of [name_f]Liv[/name_f]. I know it’s a Scandinavian name pronounced “leev”. I’m in the US and plan on using “live”. Acceptable or problematic?

I say it with a short “i” sound.

I personally feel it’s acceptable. [name_f]Liv[/name_f] [name_u]Tyler[/name_u] is American and pronounces her name that way (“live”). It isn’t the traditional or authentic Scandinavian pronunciation, but when [name_f]English[/name_f] speakers use names from other languages the pronunciation almost always gets changed.

Like @may.rose I say it with a short i as well. I’m in the US too.

I thought she uses ‘[name_f]Liv[/name_f]’ as pronunciation? [name_f]Liv[/name_f] as just like the middle syllable of o-liv-ia? Didnt kmow she says [name_f]Live[/name_f]

I meant “live” as in the verb e.g. “I live here”.

Not as in ‘live music’?

I think [name_f]Liv[/name_f] with the short i sound is what most people in the US would assume

[name_f]Liv[/name_f] to rhyme with give is lovely, and I think most intuitive in the US.

[name_f]Liv[/name_f] [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] is fantastic!

I love [name_f]Liv[/name_f]! In the US, it would 100% be pronounced like “live”, unless someone has knowledge of the Scandinavian name. I think most people would think it’s a form of [name_f]Olivia[/name_f].

I’m in the US and definitely agree with [name_f]Liv[/name_f] as in “give” and the middle syllable as [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]! It’s a nice name! I also agree that most people will assume that it’s a nickname for [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], but I don’t think that matters.

People will say it like the middle of [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]. So pretty. I love it.

Very acceptable! I actually think most people wil say ‘live’ anyway, because of [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]. Most people probably don’t even know it’s Scandinavian, but I guess they will think of it as [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]’s nickname. [name_f]Lovely[/name_f] name by the way, [name_f]Liv[/name_f] [name_f]Aurora[/name_f]!

I know a lot of Olivias that go by [name_f]Liv[/name_f], so I think that’s most intuitive. Kids would also be familiar with the Disney show [name_f]Liv[/name_f] and [name_f]Maddie[/name_f]

I have always pronounced is as lihv (live).

I think of it as the nickname for O([name_f]Liv[/name_f])ia that sort of pronunciation, It’s definitely acceptable as not many people will know the Scandinavian version of the name, most people will think of the ‘[name_f]Live[/name_f]’ way of saying it
