I love the name [name_f]Livia[/name_f] but I have two main worries about it.
We live in [name_f]England[/name_f] where [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] is super popular, so would [name_f]Livia[/name_f] spend her whole life correcting people that it’s not [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]? It doesn’t bother me having to correct people but it might drive her crazy!
I actually came across [name_f]Livia[/name_f] when I was looking for full names for [name_f]Vivi[/name_f], which I adore (but personally dislike all the obvious full names for it, like [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f], [name_f]Viviana[/name_f] etc) [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think [name_f]Vivi[/name_f] is too much of a stretch nickname for [name_f]Livia[/name_f]? Please be honest. I do like [name_f]Liv[/name_f] and quite like [name_f]Livvy[/name_f] too, but absolutely love [name_f]Vivi[/name_f].
Does anyone know any [name_f]Livia[/name_f]’s and if they find it annoying having a name so close to [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]?
(Not pregnant yet, but trying… and can’t stop thinking about names!)

I love the name [name_f]Livia[/name_f] and quite dislike the name [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], so to me they’re two very different names. If it helps, [name_f]Livia[/name_f] is in my estimation unlikely to be an offshoot name of [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], as it was the name of [name_f]Livia[/name_f] [name_f]Drusilla[/name_f], an ancient [name_m]Roman[/name_m] emperor’s ([name_m]Augustus[/name_m] [name_m]Caesar[/name_m]) well esteemed wife. I actually fell in love with it after hearing it in an art history class. To me the name [name_f]Livia[/name_f] feels more like other “ancient history” names ([name_m]Claudius[/name_m], [name_m]Julius[/name_m], etc.) than current trending names like [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] or [name_f]Sophie[/name_f].
I personally don’t love [name_f]Vivi[/name_f] as a nickname (I prefer [name_f]Liv[/name_f], then [name_f]Livy[/name_f]) but I don’t think it’s too much of a stretch, you could absolutely use it.
I’ll be honest that you might run into people who think her name is [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], but I don’t honestly think it will be that much of a problem, if I were to guess. After all, there are plenty of [name_f]Anna[/name_f] and [name_f]Hannah[/name_f], [name_f]Claire[/name_f] and [name_f]Clara[/name_f], [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] and [name_f]Sophia[/name_f], etc. and they get on just fine.
I say if you love it, use it!

Livia is cute - I think it might get confused as [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] but I dont think it would be too big a deal.
Vivi works as a nickname to me
I think [name_f]Livia[/name_f] seems a little incomplete – as if someone mumbled [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] and turned it into [name_f]Livia[/name_f].

I like [name_f]Livia[/name_f]… but I do think it would get misheard as [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] a lot, since [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] is much more common, and that could be annoying for her (I say this as a women who often gets her name mistaken for a more common name). It’s a shame, since the name [name_f]Livia[/name_f] has a completely different history from [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] and is far older. The [name_m]Roman[/name_m] empress [name_f]Livia[/name_f] was so highly regarded that she was worshipped as a goddess.
I think [name_f]Livia[/name_f] NN [name_f]Vivi[/name_f] is a bit of a stretch (I would assume [name_f]Vivi[/name_f] to be short for [name_u]Vivien[/name_u]/Vivienne). But lots of parents use nicknames that are unrelated to their child’s actual name so I don’t think it’s a big deal.
Alivia is a more “complete” alternative, I feel [name_f]Livia[/name_f] can work as a standalone but given how it’s mentioned with [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] it’s easy to associate it as a nn or confuse it with such, for me personally I wouldn’t use it given how [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] is so popular and she’s bond to know and meet at least a few, people are also bond to meet a couple and so it be more like “Like [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] without the O?” While not the worse thing some people do think it’s bothersome enough that they drop it
I like [name_f]Livia[/name_f] very much. I do think there will be times when she would be confused with [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], but lots of names need simple corrections - it wouldn’t put me off. I think [name_f]Vivi[/name_f] works fine as a nickname for it.
I’d be more concerned that it would sound like [name_f]Lydia[/name_f]. It’s pretty hard to find a name that doesn’t sound at all like other names and is familiar enough for people to recognize so I wouldn’t worry too much about it.
I think [name_f]Vivi[/name_f] is a good nn for [name_f]Livia[/name_f] not too much of a stretch. If you’re still thinking of other names, [name_f]Eve[/name_f]/Evie can also get you to [name_f]Vivi[/name_f].
Sorry, I don’t know any Livias.
I adore [name_f]Livia[/name_f], both in sound and in classical background ([name_f]Livia[/name_f] [name_f]Drusilla[/name_f]). I think [name_f]Vivi[/name_f] could work as a nickname.
I have a close friend called [name_f]Livia[/name_f] (it suits her well) and I asked her about the confusions. 3/10 isn’t so bad!

I love [name_f]Livia[/name_f]! It’s so much fresher than [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]. I do know a [name_f]Livia[/name_f] but I’m not sure how often she has to correct her name for people.

I love [name_f]Livia[/name_f]! She will probably have to correct people frequently, and as someone who has to do that I will say that it does annoy me, but it doesn’t drive me crazy. [name_f]Vivi[/name_f] works perfectly as a nickname
I like [name_f]Livia[/name_f], it has a nice sound and whimsical feel. It might get misheard as [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] but I don’t think that would happen all the time. Nickname [name_f]Vivi[/name_f] works, imo.
What about [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f]?

I love [name_f]Livia[/name_f] too and am sick of [name_f]Olivia[/name_f].
I think any name we give has some perils with pronunciation or spelling or being mistaken for another name. [name_f]Livia[/name_f] is an easy one to correct.
For [name_f]Vivi[/name_f] I would go for a V name like [name_f]Viveca[/name_f].
It’s ok. If [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] wasn’t SO popular pretty much world wide I think I would like it, but with how common [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] is I feel like [name_f]Livia[/name_f] loses a lot of it’s appeal.
Personally I’ve met quite a lot of [name_f]Livia[/name_f]’s and although I know it is it’s own distinct name I can’t help but feel every time I meet one that their mom liked [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] but just wanted to make it a little more unique or cool which makes me kind feel kind of ‘meh’ about the name in general.
However I love Vivi!
I think that she would constantly have to ay that she’s not [name_f]Olivia[/name_f].
I love [name_f]Livia[/name_f], way more than [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]! I do think she would have to correct people, but I’m not sure how much of a problem that would be. Also, [name_f]Vivi[/name_f] is an adorable nickname!
I like [name_f]Livia[/name_f] a lot! I do prefer [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] myself, but can definitely see the appeal of [name_f]Livia[/name_f]. I think there’s always the risk that people may assume she’s [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] not [name_f]Livia[/name_f], but it’s easily corrected, but I think it’s good to be prepared that it could be a possibility.
I LOVE [name_f]Liv[/name_f]/Livy, but love [name_f]Vivi[/name_f], too. [name_f]Livia[/name_f] nn [name_f]Vivi[/name_f] totally works!
Good luck!
[name_f]Livia[/name_f] is great! I live in an area where [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] and [name_f]Alivia[/name_f] are very popular. I know a [name_f]Livia[/name_f] who is around 12. She goes by [name_f]Liv[/name_f], but I think [name_f]Vivi[/name_f] could definitely work. When she was little, she went by Livi-[name_u]Lou[/name_u] which I think is adorable. I don’t think she has many issues with her name. [name_f]Livia[/name_f] is very easy to pronounce.
Thanks everyone for all the answers! Really helpful to hear what people think.
I think of it as a separate name to [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] because of its [name_m]Roman[/name_m]/Italian background.
I think I could get over the confusion with [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] if I really wanted to use it. Like some of you have said, a lot of names get confused for others so it’s not that big a deal
Oh my gosh I loved that you asked her! Great reply too, 3/10. Thank you!!
