Liviana? Thoughts or reactions?

So, my husband and I are expecting our first in late [name]April[/name] and it was just confirmed that baby is definitely a girl! Yay! Anyway, I have been a long time name lover, but am really picky with girls names. I tend to like the more frilly, feminine names. We have a few names on our list, but the one that is standing out is Liviana. From what I understand, it is an old [name]Roman[/name] name, a variant of [name]Livia[/name] I believe. We plan to call her [name]Liv[/name] and [name]Livy[/name] as nicknames. I like that it can stand on its own as a name, but has lots of nickname potential depending on her personality ([name]Liv[/name], [name]Livy[/name], [name]Ana[/name], etc.). I do worry about the popularity of [name]Olivia[/name], but am not too bothered. What are your thoughts on the name? Is there anything terrible that I am missing about this name? Thanks so much!

Personally, I don’t care for Liviana too much. I think it’s a bit too frilly and feels almost over the top.
And if you’re going to call her [name]Liv[/name] anyway, why not just name her [name]Liv[/name]? [name]Just[/name] an idea.

If you look at my signature you’ll see that I love the name [name]Livy[/name] (and most of it’s derivations)! It will be my daughters name if I ever have one.

I’m also worried about the popularity of [name]Olivia[/name] as well as the fact that our last name begins with an O so I think it might not be usable.

I love the name [name]Livia[/name]. And I also really like [name]Livinia[/name]. I’m not quite as fond of Liviana, since it feels just like an alteration of [name]Liliana[/name] instead of it’s own name–and I prefer the stress on the first syllable.

However, I don’t dislike it and I think it’s definitely a valid option. What led you to choose it over some of the other options?

Liviana [name]Juliet[/name] would be a lovely combo I think

Liviana, it’s a bit too much to me. I prefer [name]Livia[/name] in that case!

Liviana is too frilly and feminine for my taste. It just blends into all of the other similar names like [name]Liliana[/name], [name]Arianna[/name], [name]Eliana[/name], [name]Julianna[/name], [name]Adriana[/name] etc…

The classic [name]Roman[/name] name of [name]Livia[/name] (nn [name]Liv[/name]) is my favourite alternative to the overused [name]Olivia[/name] and I think it’s a memorable choice.

I don’t dislike the name Liviana, but I kind of trip over it when I say it. Maybe it’s because I’ve been saying [name]Lavinia[/name] over and over for the past couple of days.

But [name]Lavinia[/name] is similar sounding and can also pull [name]Liv[/name] as a nickname.

I say go for it! I love the name [name]Livia[/name] and plan on using it as a middle name for a girl when I have one. That being said, I did consider Liviana for awhile, because I love names that end in -iana! I love frilly, feminine, and–yes–“over-the-top” girl names. Hey, they’re so beautiful, if you’re not gonna be brave enough to use them, I will! (I actually kind of thought I made up Liviana at first, but I have seen it around here and there.) I think it’s beautiful and unique. If you like it, you should use it.

I like frilly names, so I have to say I like this one. I just feel like she will constantly be telling people, “no, not [name]Liliana[/name], Liviana–”

I do not like this name. Almost looks made up, as if Livi & [name]Ana[/name] were just stuck together. I much prefer [name]Libby[/name] or [name]Liv[/name].

I love Liviana!! I can’t remember how I came across it, but I discovered it last year and thought it was a great name. However, it does slightly strike me as a trendy made-up looking name. But I think it’s very pretty.

[name]How[/name] would you pronounce it? [name]Lee[/name]-vyah-na? [name]Liv[/name]-vee-ah-nah? [name]Liv[/name]-vee-a-nah?

I like it. It’s different enough from [name]Olivia[/name] that I don’t think it will get lost. I would worry more about getting it mixed up with [name]Lilliana[/name], but since that’s not as common, it’s not really a problem. I think [name]Livia[/name] on its own is way to close to [name]Olivia[/name], but Liviana is distinctive and feminine without being too girly. (I can see a judge or doctor Liviana before a judge [name]Olivia[/name].) All that being said, my first reaction was that it was a made-up name, but an interesting one.
