Naming our first two babies was easy and fun. Number 3 is super stressful.
We like unisex names like [name]Rowen[/name], [name]Ashton[/name], [name]Haydon[/name] and [name]Cameron[/name] for a girl…but these 4 are out for various reasons. I love the “[name]Jo[/name]” names like [name]Joelle[/name], [name]Jocelyn[/name], [name]Josie[/name]. He loves nothing…although he did suggest Lillion, which is just awful to me.
What do you think of Locklin for a little girl? I have never seen it used before and am having a hard time deciding whether it is “eh” or fabulous.
It’s [name]Lachlan[/name] or [name]Lochlann[/name] or Lauchlan or [name]Lochlainn[/name], not Locklin. It’s also a boy’s name, but please spell it correctly if you’re going to give it to your daughter.
[name]Lochlan[/name] is my husband’s favorite name for a girl. To me it does not scream boy or girl so I could see it used for either. I like it but it’s not my favorite. I like the idea of using Lo as a nickname. The only person with the name I know in real life is a girl who spells it [name]Locklynn[/name] so to me it is more of a girl name than boy name.
Hmm, what are the first two children named? It’d help in recommending more names. Most of the names you listed ended in the -on sound even if they aren’t spelled that way, so I’ll suggest mostly similar sounding ones. I don’t really like Locklin on a girl, sorry. It has the trendy -lin ending a lot of girls names have nowadays, but I find the [name]Lock[/name] sound in the first syllable too masculine.
Unisex or unisex sounding names with -on ending:
[name]Arden[/name]
[name]Fallon[/name]
[name]Jordan[/name]
[name]Kayden[/name]
[name]Madison[/name]
[name]Morgan[/name]
[name]Tamsin[/name]
[name]Teagan[/name]
Names similar to [name]Lillian[/name]:
[name]Gillian[/name]
[name]Jillian[/name]
[name]Trillian[/name] (from The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the [name]Galaxy[/name])
I do find it more of a boy’s name, but I’m not going to say it’s off the table because of that. I knew a girl named [name]Larkin[/name] growing up and I think [name]Lark[/name] is sooo spunky and cute!
[name]May[/name] I also suggest [name]Lake[/name]? I had a friend who recently used it and it has been growing on me.
[name]Lila[/name]/[name]Lilah[/name] is similar in sound to Lillion, but much more doable.
Redwoofey, you got several names on our list of love, but can’t use! We love [name]Bronwen[/name] (unusable with our last name), [name]Elowen[/name], [name]Piper[/name], [name]Ashlin[/name]/Ashlon. [name]Blythe[/name] is a [name]FAVORITE[/name] of mine, but not on our list.
My older daughter’s name is [name]Rowen[/name]. I have a thing about needing an “o” in the name. Our son’s name is [name]Colt/name.
[name]Elowen[/name] [name]Laurel[/name] (I think [name]Elowen[/name] might be too close to [name]Rowen[/name], but she would inevitably be nn’ed [name]Ellie[/name].)
Wooo I love [name]Avalon[/name] and it would most definitely be my top pick for you guys. Unisex and reminisent of popular favourites such are [name]Ava[/name] or [name]Addison[/name] with a twist.
Are you hoping to have an en/on ending?
I would suggest you keep to the most accepted spelling as names ([name]Lachlan[/name] or [name]Evelyn[/name] etc) simply because you other children have names spelt in the normal way so Evolen would stand out alot.
I love [name]Addison[/name] and [name]Avalon[/name] too, but both have been vetoed by my husband. I think if I can get him past the car reference, he might like [name]Avalon[/name] though.
The more common spelling of “[name]Rowen[/name]” is “[name]Rowan[/name]”. My daughter is “[name]Rowen[/name]”…which is why I thought the Evolen might match. In my mind, Evolen is an option whereas [name]Evelyn[/name] is not…simply because of the “o”. So if “Evolen” is a hokey spelling, I’ll go a different direction. I might research Old Welsh spellings…seems like “Evolen” would fit right in!

Also, I don’t HAVE to have an en/on ending. [name]Colton[/name] goes by [name]Colt[/name] so I don’t find it necessary, but I would like the “o” somewhere in the name.
Oh, what about [name]Harlow[/name]? Seems to fit your criteria. I’ve heard people make the ‘harlot’ connection, but I don’t see it. I personally prefer [name]Harlow[/name] to [name]Harper[/name]; sounds softer, and has the ‘o’ in it that you’re after.
Pshaw to gender norms. As far as I’m concerned, any “boy” name can be a girl name. Navigating the other way can be a little trickier, but Locklin seems lovely to me. I would probably spell it more traditionally, but since you’re gender swapping, I don’t think it matters as much.
