Lol as a name, seriously?

I found this site: http://names.whitepages.com/first/Lol

Apparently there are 47 people in the US that have the name Lol. Seriously? This just seems cruel to me.

What do you guys think of this?

I think… Lol, that’s mean.

I’m sure its a cultural name that neither one of us is familiar with or maybe it’s a nickname? If youre listed in the whitepages there’s a good chance you were around before “LOL” was.

There was a character on the kids’ TV show [name]Tracy[/name] Beaker back when I was younger called Lol, as a short form of [name]Laurence[/name]. I also know a [name]Laurence[/name] who goes by Lolleh so it seems Lol is a nickname for [name]Lawrence[/name]/[name]Laurence[/name], a bit like [name]Larry[/name]. Though I don’t know why you’d name your kid Lol without a full name, but each to their own.

Well, it’s not like the slang meaning of lol has been around for fifty years. Lol has been used as a nickname. There’s a musician named Lol Tolhurst (real name [name]Andrew[/name]).

Wow. I’d be pissed if my parents named me Lol.

It could be a creative spelling of the name [name]Lowell[/name]

Perhaps it’s a transcription of a legit name, like the [name]Indian[/name] Lal or the Hebrew [name]Lael[/name].

There’s also a musician of the name Lol Coker. He worked with [name_f]British[/name_f] progressive rock band [name_f]Cressida[/name_f] in the late 60’s and early 70’s.
