I really love the name [name_f]Lola[/name_f]… I dig the sexy LLL sound, and to me, it’s strong, full of flavorful character, sweetness & spice (haha, I sound like I’m describing a wine!) To me, this name suggests a beautiful Femme fatale from a film noir.
On the other hand, my Hubby HATES it. He says it sounds like a “loose, floozy woman” and knows several friends with pet Chihuahua’s named [name_f]Lola[/name_f]!!
[name_m]How[/name_m] popular is [name_f]Lola[/name_f] is today? Figure it’s in the top 150, but is it a name you hear everywhere with kids today???
I think of [name_f]Lola[/name_f] Rabbit from the bugs bunny cartoons, but that’s not a negative connection.
I’ve only met one little [name_f]Lola[/name_f] and find it to be a sweet name, it’s similarity to [name_f]Lila[/name_f] makes it very usable in my opinion.
It reminds me of: [name_f]Lola[/name_f] [name_f]Bunny[/name_f], a character on the TV show [name_f]Zoey[/name_f] 101, and the seductive [name_f]Lola[/name_f]-[name_f]Lola[/name_f] from The [name_u]Blue[/name_u] [name_u]Angel[/name_u]…but that last association sticks out the most to me, so I’m inclined to agree with your husband on this one. I don’t really see much appealing to it and, call me a prude, but I don’t like thinking of the name of a future little girl as ‘sexy’. Sorry
I love the name [name_f]Lola[/name_f]. I prefer it to the ever-popular [name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_f]Lila[/name_f], [name_f]Leila[/name_f], [name_f]Laila[/name_f], et al., it’s a cinch to pronounce, and more usable than [name_f]Luna[/name_f]. I do know someone with a chihuahua named [name_f]Lolita[/name_f], but you don’t see anyone complaining about [name_u]Max[/name_u] being a dog name - ! It’s a cheerful, beautiful name that deserves more love.
I have a relative named [name_f]Lola[/name_f]. I don’t see her much, but she just turned four, I think. I’ve never thought of it as a dog’s name (if it makes you feel any better, I’ve been told something similar about one of my favourites, [name_m]Leo[/name_m], a time or two…)
I’ve always thought of [name_f]Lola[/name_f] as ultra-feminine and cute, not necessarily sexy or a name for a femme fatale. If you can’t manage to sway your partner, then I like a pp’s suggestion of [name_f]Lila[/name_f]!
I don’t like the name [name_f]Lola[/name_f]. For one thing, it reminds me of ‘lol’. And, it seems like a ‘showgirl’ name. It doesn’t seem like the name that an educated, hardworking and inspired young woman would have.
If your husband hates, it seems like a no go for you. I don’t think of a loose woman when I hear [name_f]Lola[/name_f] but I do think of bright red lipstick, big hair, and stiletto heels.
To me, [name_f]Lola[/name_f] does seem more ‘femme fatale’ than chihuahua. If you hadn’t mentioned it being a chihuahua name I wouldn’t make that connection!
You could always use it as a mn, or as other have said [name_f]Lila[/name_f]/[name_f]Lyla[/name_f] (still has the LLL sound)? It’s a good name imo, and there are no big ‘characters’ that come to mind…There might be a movie called ‘Run [name_f]Lola[/name_f] Run’?
I really like [name_f]Lola[/name_f]; definitely more femme fatale then pet chihuhua. Mostly it makes me think of the [name_m]French[/name_m] teen movie of the same name.
I know a 30-year-old [name_f]Lola[/name_f] and she’s smart, successful, beautiful, and confident. I’ve always liked her and somewhat admired her, so I have positive associations with the name. I don’t think it’s a floozy name or a dog name–it doesn’t make me think “stripper!” and really what IS a dog name? Any name can be a dog name. If you love [name_f]Lola[/name_f], I would use it. If your husband is iffy about it, why not use it as a nickname? The [name_f]Lola[/name_f] I know is really an [name_f]Olga[/name_f].
I have always like the name [name_f]Lola[/name_f], to me it is ‘femme fatale’. However, I work primarily with Philippino imagrants and ‘[name_f]Lola[/name_f]’ is ‘grandma’ in Philippino language.
So slowly but surely, [name_f]Lola[/name_f] which was always a name with a sassy imagery to it, is becoming a name with an imagery of an old woman in a tropical climate.
I think of neither. I think of my friend’s lizard named [name_f]Lola[/name_f]. Then I think of [name_f]Lola[/name_f] from the show [name_f]Hannah[/name_f] [name_u]Montana[/name_u].
