I adore [name_m]Bertie[/name_m] but less keen on the names it is generally short for - in my mind [name_m]Robert[/name_m] is too commonplace, [name_m]Albert[/name_m] a little dusty, and [name_m]Bertram[/name_m] too associated with fictional characters I donāt like. Of course I could use ājust Bertieā but letās assume it needs a long form.
Please give me your creative/stretchy long names for [name_m]Bertie[/name_m]!
As an example, I quite like [name_m]Oberon[/name_m] nn [name_m]Bertie[/name_m]. Not sure whether I could truly use it on a kid, but thatās the sort of stretch Iām looking for.
Canāt believe I forgot to mention [name_m]Gilbert[/name_m]! As a recent [name_f]Anne[/name_f] of [name_m]Green[/name_m] [name_m]Gables[/name_m] convert, it is definitely on my radar. Not sure husband is a fan. Might need to work on that
I do really like [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m] actually, and [name_m]Tolly[/name_m] js a fun nn too!
Ooh, do you think Rafferty would work? Idk if thatās too much stretch. I like it though. Rupert nn Bertie is definitely doable but alas we already have Ruperts in our life!
I think so because they rhyme so well. In early years heād be [name_f]Baby[/name_f] [name_m]Rafferty[/name_m], so that would incorporate the B I think weāve reached a level of nuance here where weād have to ask a non namenerd their opinion, because I so want this to work
@Estrela thanks for so many suggestions! Some great ideas - particularly fond of Tiberius since it has both the āberā and a T - genius!
@VEL oh my goodness Iād love to go for Beren nn Bertieā¦I have a feeling weāve vetoed that before but maybe I should bring it back to the table
@Greyblue never apologise for the stretch! Ohhh I do love Bonaventure š«¶š» maybe that could work! And another vote for Tiberius. Also your suggestion of September is excellent and reminds me that October is another good option (also love October nn Toby)
WOW, [name_f]Leah[/name_f], I just might steal thisā¦ where were you like 4 years ago when I was looking for alternate nns for [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m] to [name_m]Tolly[/name_m]? I love your idea of [name_m]Eberhard[/name_m] nn [name_m]Bertie[/name_m] too.
This is hard for me because I love [name_m]Albert[/name_m], Bertram/Bertrand, and [name_m]Robert[/name_m] is a family nameā¦ but I do have one thought - have you considered [name_m]Aubert[/name_m]? Itās said oh-bear in [name_f]French[/name_f] and is a variant of [name_m]Albert[/name_m] - a much more modern-feeling one for me, anyway! I would love to meet a little [name_m]Aubert[/name_m], and I think [name_m]Bertie[/name_m] works just fine for him. [name_m]Oberon[/name_m] nn [name_m]Bertie[/name_m] is super fun too!
[name_m]Or[/name_m] what about [name_m]Bridger[/name_m] nn [name_m]Bertie[/name_m]? I donāt think they look very much alike but was just thinking how similar [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] and [name_m]Bertie[/name_m] sound, so my mind went to names like [name_f]Bridget[/name_f].
[name_m]Aubert[/name_m] is very elegant! Iām not sure I can see myself truly using it, but in theory I love it. [name_f]Glad[/name_f] to know [name_m]Oberon[/name_m] āBertieā isnāt completely mad too!
And yes I am conflicted about Albert/Bertram because they are both in my family tree, but they have other associations for me and also donāt necessarily play nicely with my girl names
Right after this I thought about [name_m]Tor[/name_m] tooā¦ it is a bit of a stretch but I think it also works for [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m] [name_m]Ever[/name_m]. Now I have too many options!
