I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_u]Billie[/name_u]/[name_f]Billi[/name_f] (still tossing up) and have done for about 5 or 6 years now. I’m always searching for a longer name for it though, here are some I’ve found - please let me know what you think/how appropriate these are for the nn [name_f]Billi[/name_f]/[name_u]Billie[/name_u]!
(also, if you prefer [name_u]Billie[/name_u]/[name_f]Billi[/name_f], please tell me why!)
I agree with casilda. I like [name_u]Billie[/name_u] alone or as a nn for [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] or [name_f]Willa[/name_f]. Anything else just seems odd.
[name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] (which I love!), [name_f]Sybilla[/name_f], or [name_f]Belinda[/name_f].
I prefer [name_u]Billie[/name_u]. The “i” ending of [name_f]Billi[/name_f] was very popular for girls’ nicknames when I was a pre-teen… probably why I don’t dig it. I prefer the vintage-y “ie”!
I know three female Billies of various spellings - two of them have -[name_u]Jo[/name_u] tagged on the end, one doesn’t. [name_f]Belinda[/name_f] was my first thought too, though I find it a bit clunky and dated, as I do [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f]. I think any of the -bel names could work without too much of a stretch if you’re after something a bit more modern sounding, though it’s a bit accent dependent about how close [name_u]Bell[/name_u] and [name_m]Bill[/name_m] sound - if you pronounce them almost identically you’re onto a winner.
[name_m]How[/name_m] do [name_f]Isobel[/name_f], [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Mathilda[/name_f] relate to [name_u]Billie[/name_u] at all? I prefer [name_u]Billie[/name_u] as it’s more conventional and I like the ie ending. [name_f]Willow[/name_f] I sort of get.
[name_f]My[/name_f] first thought was [name_f]Willa[/name_f] because it’s close to [name_m]William[/name_m].
Names that contain the ill maybe such as [name_f]Jillian[/name_f], [name_f]Lillian[/name_f], [name_f]Camille[/name_f], [name_f]Lucille[/name_f], [name_f]Priscilla[/name_f].
Names that start with Bi such as [name_f]Bianca[/name_f].
Names that start with [name_f]Bel[/name_f] such as [name_f]Belinda[/name_f], [name_f]Bella[/name_f], [name_f]Belle[/name_f].
Names that contain bil such as [name_u]Abilene[/name_u], [name_f]Sybilla[/name_f], [name_f]Jubilee[/name_f].
Names like [name_f]Bianca[/name_f] [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] that incorporate two of the above in a Fn / MN combo.
[name_f]My[/name_f] favourite is [name_u]Abilene[/name_u] though. [name_u]Unique[/name_u], gorgeous, other nickname options if she doesn’t like [name_u]Billie[/name_u], doesn’t only fit [name_u]Billie[/name_u] because of the connection to [name_m]William[/name_m] (there is no connection to [name_m]William[/name_m]), and is beautiful!
Your other option would be to name her Something [name_u]Billie[/name_u] Last Name and just call her [name_u]Billie[/name_u]. For example, [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] [name_u]Billie[/name_u] LastName nn [name_u]Billie[/name_u]
Sidestory: I knew a girl that went by [name_u]Billie[/name_u], and no one knew what her real name was! She was a massive tomboy. One day we found out her name was something unique and girlie, and when she was little had announced she wanted to be called [name_u]Billie[/name_u], for no reason other than she liked the name!
[name_m]Favorite[/name_m] of mine is [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] nn [name_u]Billie[/name_u], ever since there was a character with this name on Boardwalk Empire. If [name_m]William[/name_m] can be [name_u]Billy[/name_u], why not [name_f]Lillian[/name_f]?
When I was younger I sat for a girl whose best friends was [name_u]Billie[/name_u]. It was short for [name_f]Wilda[/name_f] in her case. Very uncommon but apparently a legitimate name.
I’m going to ramble off a few names I think would work, there’s probably going to be quite a few repeats.
[name_u]Abilene[/name_u]
Amabilis / Amabilia
Bilhah
[name_f]Cybill[/name_f], [name_f]Sibilla[/name_f], [name_f]Sybil[/name_f], [name_f]Sybilla[/name_f], [name_f]Sybille[/name_f], etc.
[name_f]Willa[/name_f]
[name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f], [name_f]Wilhelmine[/name_f], [name_f]Willemina[/name_f], etc.
[name_f]Willow[/name_f]
Maybes:
[name_f]Lily[/name_f] - I know one called [name_f]Lily[/name_f]-[name_u]Billie[/name_u] affectionately.
[name_f]Ottilie[/name_f] - [name_f]Tillie[/name_f] to [name_u]Billie[/name_u]?
I’m not a fan of [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f], that’s why I didn’t have it in my suggestions, and [name_f]Willa[/name_f] doesn’t seem complete to me.
[name_f]Isobel[/name_f], [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] & [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] aren’t ones that I’ve come up with - just ones I’ve seen in past forums on this site. [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] --> [name_f]Millie[/name_f] --> [name_u]Billie[/name_u], [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] --> [name_f]Tillie[/name_f] --> [name_u]Billie[/name_u] - not my creation.
Not a fan of [name_u]Abilene[/name_u] or [name_f]Sybil[/name_f] either - both seem a little dated to me. Thanks for suggestions though!
I really like [name_f]Willa[/name_f] nn [name_u]Billie[/name_u]! I use [name_u]Billie[/name_u] as a nickname for [name_u]Winter[/name_u] too (though it started as a joke at first but it fit after I started using it!) Also I prefer [name_u]Billie[/name_u] with an ‘e’ (just my personal taste.) I have also thought of [name_u]Billie[/name_u] as a nn for [name_f]Willow[/name_f] before.
I prefer [name_u]Billie[/name_u]: she is spunky, sassy and fits well to any age. Cooler than [name_f]Millie[/name_f], less frilly than [name_f]Tillie[/name_f]. The only options I like for the nn [name_u]Billie[/name_u] is [name_f]Willa[/name_f] or [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f]. [name_f]Willow[/name_f] is a fine, name,NMS, but another good option for [name_u]Billie[/name_u]. The rest don’t really make sense as nickname’s for [name_u]Billie[/name_u], sorry.
I definitely agree that [name_f]Sybilla[/name_f] (my favorite!) or [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] are the prettiest proper names to get [name_u]Billie[/name_u].
