Are any of these usable in real life? I have major crushes on them, and have for a very long time. But do they translate well into the real world or should I keep them as GP? I love the nicknames that go along with them too.
I like long, extravagant names… but are they TOO much?
[name_m]Archibald[/name_m]
[name_m]Cornelius[/name_m]
[name_m]Barnabas[/name_m]
[name_m]Balthazar[/name_m]
[name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m]… but I don’t like [name_m]Bart[/name_m]…
[name_m]Fitzwilliam[/name_m]
[name_m]Aurelius[/name_m]
[name_m]Eleazar[/name_m]
[name_m]Ezekiel[/name_m]
[name_m]Ignatius[/name_m]
[name_m]MacArthur[/name_m]
I do think most can work fine in ‘the real world’ - though some nicknames as alternatives/to make it easier at least for a little one would help.
The ones I’d say are a bit more awkward [name_m]Fitzwilliam[/name_m], [name_m]MacArthur[/name_m] (too much, too surname-y) and [name_m]Ignatius[/name_m].
[name_m]Ezekiel[/name_m] - nothing to worry about, it’s a well known name!
[name_m]Eleazar[/name_m] - the Hebrew origins come through, so it doesn’t seem so obscure. And it fits right in with all the [name_f]El[/name_f]- names, while still being unique.
[name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m] - it’s big, it’s vintage, but it can also be very cool! [name_u]Barry[/name_u], [name_m]Bear[/name_m], [name_m]Al[/name_m], [name_m]Hall[/name_m], [name_m]Art[/name_m], [name_u]Beau[/name_u]/[name_u]Bo[/name_u] are some of the many nickname options for it, no need to be put off by [name_m]Bart[/name_m].
[name_m]Archibald[/name_m] - while it may seem a bit like a grandpa name, [name_m]Archie[/name_m] grounds it to the ‘now’ and makes for an adorable nickname!
[name_m]Cornelius[/name_m] - it actually reminds me of the main character from Meet The Robinsons, the little blondie boy named [name_m]Cornelius[/name_m] and went by [name_m]Lewis[/name_m]. In the lack of people to make the name ‘more real’, that at leasts eases the idea of a child bearing the name.
[name_m]Barnabas[/name_m] - I must admit I’d prefer [name_m]Barnaby[/name_m], but again the name is full of possibilities.
In all honesty I think it would be hard for any child or man to wear any of these names (in the USA, at least in the places I have lived), especially a child going to brick and mortar schools. I am guessing they would use a nickname and hope their real names do not come out. Sorry.
I think [name_m]Archibald[/name_m] is more than usable, and love the nn [name_m]Archie[/name_m] (maybe that’s because i’m in the uk?)
[name_m]Cornelius[/name_m] is usable imo but is tease-worthy potentially
[name_m]Barnabas[/name_m] with the nn [name_m]Barney[/name_m] is super cute and definitely usable!
[name_m]Ezekiel[/name_m], [name_m]Fitzwilliam[/name_m] and [name_m]MacArthur[/name_m] I would say are usable too… but probably not the others
I don’t know if I can be of much help, it looks like your getting quite mixed reviews here, but I do think most of those names would be usable if they have a short, easily accessible nickname. Example [name_m]MacArthur[/name_m] nn [name_m]Mac[/name_m].
[name_m]Ezekiel[/name_m] (nn [name_m]Zeke[/name_m]!) is definitely usable in my opinion, probably the most familiar of them all.
I do love [name_m]Balthazar[/name_m] and [name_m]Aurelius[/name_m] so much, but those two exactly don’t have obvious nicknames that I love.
All the best!
[name_m]Ezekiel[/name_m] is easy - that won’t be difficult for a child. My favorite (by a lot) is [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m]. I think it can work in real life, but I admit it’s a big name to give to a little person. Actually, most are probably usable.
I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_m]Archibald[/name_m], [name_m]Ezechiel[/name_m] and [name_m]Eleazar[/name_m]. I know several [name_m]Archibald[/name_m] and [name_m]Ezechiel[/name_m]. They don’t have any issue with their name.
I love [name_m]Cornelius[/name_m] (I know one Cornélius), [name_m]Barnabas[/name_m], [name_m]Balthazar[/name_m] (I know several [name_m]Balthazar[/name_m]), [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m].
I like [name_m]MacArthur[/name_m].
I prefer [name_m]Fitzgerald[/name_m] over [name_m]Fitzwilliam[/name_m] but I think it’s definitely wearable. I don’t like [name_m]Ignatius[/name_m] and [name_m]Aurelius[/name_m] but they are also wearable. I know one [name_m]Ignatius[/name_m].
[name_m]Archibald[/name_m]
[name_m]Cornelius[/name_m]
[name_m]Barnabas[/name_m]
[name_m]Balthazar[/name_m]
[name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m]… but I don’t like [name_m]Bart[/name_m]…
[name_m]Fitzwilliam[/name_m]
[name_m]Aurelius[/name_m]
[name_m]Eleazar[/name_m]
[name_m]Ezekiel[/name_m]
[name_m]Ignatius[/name_m]
[name_m]MacArthur[/name_m]
Honestly, nicknames for any of these would be fine. With the exception of [name_m]Barnabas[/name_m] and [name_m]Balthazar[/name_m].
Most of them straight up would probably be hard for anyone to wear, but as [name_m]Archie[/name_m], [name_u]Neil[/name_u], [name_m]Fitz[/name_m], [name_f]Aurie[/name_f], [name_m]Zeke[/name_m], [name_m]Nate[/name_m], [name_m]Mac[/name_m] ect. would be fine.
Aww !!! You just made me want to reconsider most of these because I do love them so much. One that REALLY stuck out was the nickname [name_m]Bear[/name_m] for [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m]. I have never thought about that and [name_m]Bear[/name_m] has a special place in our hearts (and also why we love [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] which means [name_m]Bear[/name_m] and [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] for [name_u]Teddy[/name_u]/[name_u]Teddy[/name_u] [name_m]Bear[/name_m] so much). Hm… gonna run it by the husband! I am going to revisit [name_m]Archibald[/name_m] again too because we [name_f]ADORE[/name_f] [name_m]Archie[/name_m]. Thanks!!
I have a feeling quite a few of you are from the UK, as here in the US I don’t think people would be so open about these names, let alone know any baby who currently has them (with the exception of [name_m]Ezekiel[/name_m] perhaps).
Thank you for all the opinions so far! Keep them coming!
