Long version of Abby

We’re due with a baby girl in [name_u]August[/name_u] and our 2.5-year-old son has been insisting lately that her name is [name_u]Abby[/name_u]. I don’t love [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] or [name_f]Gabrielle[/name_f]. Can you suggest some other names that can be shortened to [name_u]Abby[/name_u]? We’re open to girlie, unisex or even slightly boyish names. Last name ends in -a- so first names that end in -a- can be tricky unless they are 3+ syllables. For some reason the longer the name the better it sounds with our last.

Thanks!!

[name_f]Abrianna[/name_f]
[name_u]Abilene[/name_u]
[name_f]Abrielle[/name_f]
[name_f]Abra[/name_f] (of course, brings up the a bra issue)
[name_f]Tabitha[/name_f]…maybe?
[name_u]Abbott[/name_u]

You could always give her an A first name with a B middle, which would bring about the nickname in a very roundabout way.
Or you could use what name you want and that can be your son’s special nickname for his sister.

I could see [name_u]Abby[/name_u] as a nickname for an Av- name, something like [name_f]Avril[/name_f] or [name_f]Avalon[/name_f].

Or [name_f]Alabama[/name_f] or [name_u]Albany[/name_u], if you’re feeling place names…

[name_u]Aberdeen[/name_u]
[name_u]Abril[/name_u]
Abernathy
[name_f]Abelone[/name_f]
Abeline
Abelina
[name_f]Abella[/name_f]
[name_f]Abelia[/name_f]
Abelie

[name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] nn [name_u]Abby[/name_u] would work well.

[name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] nn [name_u]Abby[/name_u] would work. You might have people calling her [name_f]Annie[/name_f] or [name_f]Belle[/name_f], or if she goes by [name_u]Abby[/name_u], thinking her name is [name_f]Abigail[/name_f], but “ab” is right in the name so it’s easy to see where it comes from.

I was also going to suggest [name_f]Annabel[/name_f]/[name_f]Annabelle[/name_f]! I always thought [name_u]Abby[/name_u] would make a great unexpected nickname for that.

I know of two different people who are just named [name_u]Abby[/name_u]…no formal name (one is around 35, the other is 10).

[name_u]Aberdeen[/name_u]
[name_u]Abilene[/name_u]
[name_u]Abbot[/name_u] / [name_u]Abbott[/name_u]
Abelian
[name_f]Abelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Abella[/name_f]
Abelie
[name_f]Abiela[/name_f]
[name_u]Abijah[/name_u]
[name_f]Abrial[/name_f]

I think even [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] nn [name_u]Abby[/name_u] could work.

No new ones, but I love the suggestions of [name_f]Tabitha[/name_f], [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] or [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] for nn [name_u]Abby[/name_u].

I had a friend named [name_f]Tabitha[/name_f] who went by [name_u]Abby[/name_u].

I know an [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] nicknamed [name_u]Abby[/name_u] so that would be what I would go for. I like the ideas of [name_f]Tabitha[/name_f] and [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] as well. In a similar vein I think [name_f]ChristABel[/name_f] or [name_f]IsABel/name_f would work too. [name_f]ElizABeth[/name_f], [name_f]SABrina[/name_f] and [name_f]SABina[/name_f] could be options also.
