Longer names for the nn Jude on a girl?

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] all, I’m not pregnant but have been thinking about baby names again.

I’ve realised that I really love the name [name_u]Jude[/name_u] but feel like the child should have a longer name incase they didn’t like [name_u]Jude[/name_u] when they grow up or something. I’m not a fan of [name_f]Judy[/name_f] or [name_f]Judith[/name_f] as I think that, despite them being nice name, they are perhaps too dated for when I have kids.

At the minute I personally love the name [name_f]Georgina[/name_f] (or even perhaps [name_f]Georgiana[/name_f] - undecided) but there’s no way that the name would stretch to the nn [name_u]Jude[/name_u] (unfortunately means I can’t use both unless I had 2 kids or something like that). Question is - what names could be shortened to [name_u]Jude[/name_u] without the obvious [name_f]Judith[/name_f] and [name_f]Judy[/name_f]?

There is [name_u]Jordan[/name_u] and [name_f]Jordana[/name_f]. If they aren’t your cup of tea, I do think that any ‘Julie’ name could have the nn [name_u]Jude[/name_u]. There’s [name_f]Juliana[/name_f], [name_f]Juliet[/name_f], [name_u]Julianne[/name_u] and [name_f]Julietta[/name_f] to name a few variants. I also think that a ‘Jo’ name could work, e.g. [name_f]Joanna[/name_f] nn [name_u]Jude[/name_u]. [name_f]Juno[/name_f] nn’d [name_u]Jude[/name_u] would be great too, if that’s more to your taste. [name_f]Jada[/name_f], [name_f]Jadelyn[/name_f] and Jocelind are other names with have both the J and the D.

If you spelled [name_f]Georgina[/name_f] as [name_f]Jorgina[/name_f], [name_u]Jude[/name_u] could work - what do you think?

Thanks for the reply! I like the names Joanna and Juliet and can see the possibility for Jude.

With Georgina I’m not sure about how I’d spell it. The traditional way is my favourite but Jorgina does open up some more nickname possibilities. I also suppose that nicknames don’t have to be directly relate to names but I still really like your suggestion of Jorgina! Only thing is I’m worried about how it may be viewed as untraditional. Do you think using Jude for Jorgina/Georgina would a be a stretch too far and require too much explanation as its a little different from the usual Georgie or Gina?

Ooh Judea is a pretty name that I’ve never thought of! Thanks for the suggestion!

[name_f]Judita[/name_f] and Judea are on the top of my brain.
[name_f]Giuditta[/name_f] has a smidgen of possibility to me seeing how other Italian names have crossed over

Judanna
Gertude- I can see it might be a stretch for some
[name_m]Judson[/name_m]- kinda sorta
[name_f]Jordanna[/name_f]
Geordane
[name_m]Arjuna[/name_m] [name_f]Delyth[/name_f] (You could claim you got there putting the JU in [name_m]Arjuna[/name_m] and the De in [name_f]Delyth[/name_f] together getting Jude)

[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] is so cute! Only problem with that is I’m not a massive fan of [name_u]Jo[/name_u] as a nn but its still a lovely name.

The heroine in the sweet book Daddy [name_m]Long[/name_m] Legs is a [name_f]Jerusha[/name_f] thrilled to discover she can go by [name_f]Judy[/name_f].

[name_f]My[/name_f] favorites would be the traditional, [name_f]Judith[/name_f] or [name_f]Judy[/name_f] to get to [name_u]Jude[/name_u].

Maybe a “Jul” name with a “D” middle initial? E.g. [name_u]Julie[/name_u] [name_f]Delilah[/name_f], [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] [name_f]Diana[/name_f], [name_f]Julia[/name_f] [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f], [name_f]Juliana[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], etc.
