We’re Americans who currently live in Poland, and will likely stay in Europe, especially Eastern Europe, for most of our children’s childhoods. Because of this, it’s important that our children have names that work in both English and in Slavic languages, particularly Russian. We have two children, [name_m]David[/name_m] [name_m]Mikhail[/name_m] and [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] [name_f]Svetlana[/name_f]. [name_m]Both[/name_m] of their first names are familiar names in both cultures, and their middle names are Russian. We’d like to continue the theme with our third child, who’s due in [name_f]May[/name_f].
For a girl, we’re considering [name_f]Victoria[/name_f], [name_f]Elena[/name_f], [name_f]Camille[/name_f] ([name_f]Camilla[/name_f] in Russian), [name_f]Emilia[/name_f], [name_f]Rose[/name_f] ([name_f]Raisa[/name_f] in Russian, pronounced rah-EE-sah), or [name_f]Julia[/name_f] ([name_f]Yuliya[/name_f] in Russian). For middles, we like [name_f]Nadezhda[/name_f] (nah-DYEZH-dah), Evgeniya (yev-[name_m]GYE[/name_m]-nee-yah), or Miroslava (mee-rah-SLAH-vah).
For a boy, we’re considering [name_m]Alexander[/name_m], [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] ([name_m]Artur[/name_m] in Russian), or [name_m]Elijah[/name_m] ([name_m]Ilya[/name_m] in Russian), with [name_f]Aleksey[/name_f], [name_m]Ilya[/name_m] (eel-YAH), [name_u]Nikita[/name_u] (nee-KEE-tah), or Yaroslav (yah-rah-SLAHF) as a middle. Of course, we wouldn’t choose [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] [name_f]Aleksey[/name_f] or [name_m]Elijah[/name_m] [name_m]Ilya[/name_m].
Which do you like best? Any suggestions or thoughts?
I think all of the fns on your list work well with [name_m]David[/name_m] and [name_f]Lydia[/name_f]. [name_f]My[/name_f] favorites from your list are [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_m]Arthur[/name_m]. [name_f]Victoria[/name_f], [name_f]Emilia[/name_f], and [name_f]Julia[/name_f] all have a similar ending to [name_f]Lydia[/name_f], but I don’t think they are too close because it’s not the -dia ending. [name_u]Nikita[/name_u] can often be associated with a female in the US, so maybe use [name_m]Nicolai[/name_m] or [name_u]Nico[/name_u] instead.
Some possible combinations:
[name_m]Arthur[/name_m] [name_m]Ilya[/name_m]
[name_m]Elijah[/name_m] Yaroslav
[name_m]Alexander[/name_m] [name_m]Nicolai[/name_m]
[name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Nadezhda[/name_f] or Miroslava
[name_f]Elena[/name_f] Miroslava
[name_f]Camille[/name_f] Evgeniya
[name_f]Julia[/name_f] [name_f]Nadezhda[/name_f]
