Looking for ideas for an Irish/Gaelic/Celtic Girl name

We still haven’t found a name for our baby girl due on [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] [name_u]Day[/name_u]. Our older kids have Gaelic/Celtic/Irish names and we’d like to stay with the same origin. We know her middle name will be [name_f]Joy[/name_f]. I prefer long, feminine sounding names and I think that something with 3 or 4 syllables would sound best with a short monosyllabic middle. Hubs has a thing for cute nicknames. I absolutely love the name Eilionora (or any of the spelling variations) with the nn [name_m]Eli[/name_m] or [name_f]Nora[/name_f] but hubby is completely against it. He says it reminds him of the First Lady [name_m]Roosevelt[/name_m] and sounds stuffy and old to him. So we are back to the drawing board. If I could find something with a meaning related to her DD (such as light, winter, cold, ect.) that would be a bonus. We are avoiding names starting with “B” because our last name starts with “S”. I’m looking constantly and nothing seems to strike a cord for us. Suggestions would be appreciated!

I believe lots of names beginning with “[name_f]El[/name_f]” mean bright light or torch. [name_f]Elina[/name_f] or [name_f]Elaina[/name_f] for example could both still get you to the nn you like of [name_m]Eli[/name_m]. The names [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], [name_f]Luciana[/name_f], [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] mean light as well. I’m not sure about other meanings related to the [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] [name_u]Day[/name_u] due date. But if she happens to be born early on [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] [name_f]Eve[/name_f], or late on [name_m]New[/name_m] Year’s [name_f]Eve[/name_f], I would love to see you use a name that had “[name_f]Eve[/name_f]” in it, and there are so many great “[name_f]Eve[/name_f]” options out there! I know these aren’t Gaelic, Celtic, Irish…curious, what are your other kids names?

[name_u]Cassidy[/name_u] [name_f]Joy[/name_f]
[name_f]Clodagh[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f] ([name_f]Clo[/name_f]-Dah)
[name_u]Finley[/name_u] [name_f]Joy[/name_f]
[name_f]Keela[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f]
[name_f]Aoife[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f] (Ee-[name_f]Fa[/name_f])
[name_f]Brianna[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f]
[name_f]Fiona[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f]
Fionnoula [name_f]Joy[/name_f] ([name_u]Finn[/name_u]-[name_f]Ula[/name_f])
[name_f]Nessa[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f]
[name_u]Teagan[/name_u] [name_f]Joy[/name_f]

Good point & I love the way “[name_f]El[/name_f]” names sound. I think [name_f]Elaina[/name_f] is a great option. I don’t know that I’m sold on “[name_f]Lu[/name_f]” names but it’s something to consider. My son’s name is [name_u]Logan[/name_u] and my daughter’s name is [name_f]Aibhlin[/name_f] pronouced Ay-vuh-lyn. Her nn is [name_f]Ava[/name_f] so we will probably stay away from the nn [name_f]Eve[/name_f] for our youngest but I wouldn’t mind finding a way to incorporate it. Thanks so much for the suggestions!!

Aibhlinn ([name_f]Ave[/name_f]-leen. Anglicized to [name_f]Eveline[/name_f] nn [name_f]Eve[/name_f] for the [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] [name_f]Eve[/name_f] idea)
Airlia
[name_f]Alannah[/name_f]
[name_f]Aoife[/name_f] (ee-fa. [name_f]Eva[/name_f]?)

Carrigan
[name_f]Catriona[/name_f] (ka-tree-na. [name_f]Katrina[/name_f]?)
[name_f]Fenella[/name_f]
[name_f]Fiona[/name_f]
[name_f]Iona[/name_f]
[name_u]Madigan[/name_u]
[name_f]Maeve[/name_f]
[name_f]Mairead[/name_f] (mawr-aid. [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]?)
[name_f]Saoirse[/name_f]

I just love [name_u]Teagan[/name_u]! I have considered it with each of my kids but have never been able to get hubby on board. :frowning: I know we won’t use [name_f]Brianna[/name_f] as pretty as it is because of the initials it would create- BJS is just not flattering! [name_f]Aoife[/name_f] wouldn’t be an option either because our other daughter is often called [name_f]Ava[/name_f] and it would be too close. I think many of the “C/K” and “F” names big contenders, thanks for the ideas!

I almost never meet anyone who has heard of my older daughter’s name! I’m so happy to see it on the top of your list. I love it so much I would use it again if I could- but I don’t think that would work out! LOL. I hadn’t considered Carrigan, that has a nice sound to it. I adore [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] and really like [name_f]Alannah[/name_f] but again hubby has already struck them from my list of potentials. [name_u]Boo[/name_u]!
