[name]Diane[/name]/[name]Diana[/name] is a family name that I’ve wanted to use as a middle name, but then I started considering it as a first. Not sure I “love” either [name]Diane[/name] or [name]Diana[/name], but I think [name]Annie[/name] is addorable - and still honors my much loved relative who passed away a few years ago. [name]Just[/name] looking for some outside opinions. Does [name]Diane[/name] and [name]Diana[/name] sound more like a middle aged lady than like a baby or a young girl? Is using [name]Annie[/name] as a nickname to much of a stretch? [name]Do[/name] you prefer [name]Diane[/name] or [name]Diana[/name]?
Can’t wait to hear your thoughts!
[name]LOVE[/name] the nn [name]Annie[/name]! It’s so cute. To me, yes, [name]Diane[/name] and [name]Diana[/name] are very dated, but then again, I love some names others consider quite dated, so why not? It matters more if you love it. I would use [name]Rachel[/name] or [name]Joanna[/name] in a heartbeat if that’s the only name my husband would agree to, and to some, they’re just as dated as [name]Diane[/name]/a. I definitely think [name]Annie[/name] works perfectly as a NN for [name]Diane[/name]/a! [name]Annie[/name] is so cute. I usually prefer French variants, but I think [name]Diana[/name] feels a bit less dated than [name]Diane[/name] does.
Good luck!
I think [name]Diana[/name] is quite classic and timeless whereas [name]Diane[/name] was popular in the 1950’s so it feels more dated to me. The [name]Diana[/name] version stays true to the mythological [name]Roman[/name] goddess of the hunt so that adds to its appeal.
My mom’s mn is [name]Diane[/name], she was born in '46 so it’s dated to me but its still very nice!
I think [name]Diana[/name] is better than [name]Diane[/name] but they are both a little dated. [name]Annie[/name] is cute and spunky! I know a little girl at my Pre-K whose birth name is [name]Annie[/name], just [name]Annie[/name] it is not a NN for anything. So I think it would work fine as a NN or a name on its own. It could still honor your family just an updated version
I like [name]Diana[/name] better than [name]Diane[/name]. It is a little dated but that’s fine. There are plenty of other names out there that are making a come back and [name]Diana[/name] is one I’d rather see than others.
I also love it for it being the [name]Roman[/name] name for the Greek goddess [name]Artemis[/name]. I feel [name]Artemis[/name] sounds more like a boy name so I love that her [name]Roman[/name] counter part, [name]Diana[/name], has such a feminine name!
[name]Every[/name] [name]Diana[/name] or [name]Diane[/name] I know is in her fifties (at least), so the name does feel dated to me. I could see [name]Diana[/name] on a little girl, though. The nickname [name]Annie[/name] is adorable and definitely not a stretch.
[name]Diana[/name] with the nickname [name]Annie[/name] is adorable, and I’d love to see a little girl with this name. [name]Diane[/name], on the other hand, still sounds middle-aged to me.
OMGOMGOMG THAT’S MY NAME XDDD My name is [name]Dianna[/name] (with 2 n’s) with the nn “Annne”!!! I have always loved my name. It’s never been super popular like [name]Jennifer[/name]/[name]Jessica[/name] but it’s not some weird unusual name. On top of that it’s very feminine and pretty Plus there is the royal connection to [name]Princess[/name] [name]Dianna[/name]…a woman who is beloved by many and the Roman Goddess connection…heavenly, right? Overall I would totally go with [name]Dianna[/name], you can’t go wrong with it
BTW: If your looking for a mn, my full name is [name]Dianna[/name] [name]Elaine[/name]…I might have some Greek in me lol
I like [name]Diana[/name] and [name]Diane[/name], because they remind me of [name]Diana[/name] (also known as the goddess [name]Artemis[/name]) and [name]Diana[/name] [name]Barry[/name].
[name]Diana[/name] is just beautiful, and I love the nn [name]Annie[/name]!
I love [name]Diana[/name] nn [name]Annie[/name], but hate [name]Diane[/name]!
Aw, thanks for all the input, berries! Getting kind of a mix of responses, which is probably the kind of reactions we’d get if we named our baby [name]Diane[/name] or [name]Diana[/name]. I do think I prefer [name]Diana[/name] when using it as a first name. I much prefer the nn [name]Annie[/name], to [name]Diana[/name]/[name]Diane[/name]. Maybe I should stick with using it in the middle and using a name I love more as a first. Is it weird to use a family name that I’m not crazy about as a first name, long as we can use a nn we like? Another example of this is the name [name]Charlotte[/name]. [name]Both[/name] my husband and I much prefer the nn [name]Lottie[/name] to the full name, but can’t decide if it’s weird to use a name we’re not crazy about to get to a nn we like. I’m rambling here now, but hmmm… [name]Annie[/name] and [name]Lottie[/name] ([name]Diana[/name] & [name]Charlotte[/name]) would make a pretty addorable sib-set!
I agree [name]Diana[/name] and [name]Charlotte[/name] make a great sibset (yet again if you look below you’ll notice I’m part of a similar sibset, as [name]Charlotte[/name] is one of my sisters except we call her [name]Charlie[/name]) Anyway I [name]LOVE[/name] your naming style <3
I really love the name [name]Diana[/name]! I agree it’s a name you hear more often on women than babies or girls, but I feel like it’s still out there for younger people, and it doesn’t scream dated like [name]Barbara[/name] or something.
I don’t think it’s weird at all to use a family name as a first name since you like the nickname. [name]Diana[/name] nn [name]Annie[/name] is totally fine by me.
I feel similarly about [name]Charlotte[/name], by the way. [name]Both[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name] and [name]Lottie[/name], just [name]Lottie[/name], are family names for me and I love [name]Lottie[/name] more, but am not really big on using nicknames as full names. I love [name]Charlotte[/name] but just don’t think I would personally use it, if that makes sense.
I’ve often wondered about using [name]Louisa[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name] nicknamed [name]Lottie[/name]. To me, taking the nickname from the middle name is less weird in this case, because [name]Louisa[/name] starts with Lo. What do you think?
[name]Anastasia[/name] [name]Diane[/name] nn’d [name]Annie[/name]? Only if you like [name]Anastasia[/name] though : D. [name]Andrea[/name] would work here, or [name]Anneliese[/name], or probably some others.
To me, [name]Diane[/name] is dated while [name]Diana[/name] is not.
I love the name [name]Diana[/name]! It’s strong and feminine, and in my opinion, classic. I think [name]Diane[/name] is dated. And the nickname [name]Annie[/name] is so cute!
I much prefer [name]Diana[/name] because it seems more of the timeless classic. If you want something a little jazzier though you could go with [name]Dianthe[/name].
[name]Diane[/name]/[name]Dianne[/name] is NOT “dated”…it’s an ancient name, actually, dating back centuries! That makes it quite lovely, in fact. All “old” names are coming back, and this is a timeless one for the ages. The name connotes classicism, royalty, strength, and beauty.
[name]Diana[/name] has a fresh sound about it and for someone I always think of the combo [name]Diana[/name] [name]Lily[/name], which sounds adorable to me.
[name]Diane[/name] sounds old fashioned, and I’m not too keen on the nickname [name]Annie[/name] but it could work.
