[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there. I’m new to this site so I hope this is the right place to post this. This is my third baby but the sibling board seemed wrong for what I’m looking for. [name_f]Hope[/name_f] you can help!
Backstory: I come from a huge Irish Catholic family where everyone is named [name_m]Patrick[/name_m], [name_m]Joseph[/name_m], [name_u]Michael[/name_u], and [name_m]William[/name_m]. I kid you not, my dad is [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] ([name_m]Joe[/name_m]) and his brothers are [name_m]Patrick[/name_m] ([name_u]Paddy[/name_u]), [name_u]Michael[/name_u] ([name_m]Mike[/name_m]), and [name_m]William[/name_m] ([name_m]Bill[/name_m]) and my mom is [name_f]Kathleen[/name_f] ([name_f]Kathy[/name_f]) and her brothers are [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] ([name_m]Joe[/name_m]), [name_u]Michael[/name_u] ([name_m]Mike[/name_m]), and [name_m]Patrick[/name_m] ([name_u]Pat[/name_u]). All of them each have a junior and most of them have another kid with one of those names…it’s a zoo! Luckily, I married a [name_m]Robert[/name_m] ([name_m]Rob[/name_m]) and we have two kids with one on the way. I had my oldest in 2006 and in an attempt to choose something from our Irish Catholic background and be a little different, we chose [name_u]Aidan[/name_u] [name_m]Joseph[/name_m]. He turned two and every kid we met was named [name_u]Aidan[/name_u] or something similar, including now three cousins. Epic fail, lol. Oh well, he’s 11 and his name suits him well. Our daughter was born in 2011 and we were again trying to avoid overly popular (we tried a little harder after our fail with [name_u]Aidan[/name_u]'s name) and she is [name_f]Bridget[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f]…I know, boring middle name but it’s a family name (isn’t it for everyone?!) That has worked out beautifully!
Now, fast forward to today and I am 25 weeks along with #3 who is a nameless baby boy. Like I said before we have a big family and a lot of overlap in names. I’m hoping I can get some great suggestions on some fresh ideas that still work well with our traditional family. I really love [name_u]Riley[/name_u] but I think we’d be walking into another [name_u]Aidan[/name_u] popularity situation and [name_u]Riley[/name_u] is not the name of a [name_m]Saint[/name_m] so my family would have issues with that.
Alright, I have rambled on long enough. Throw me some ideas and I’d very much appreciate it! So far our only real option is [name_m]Sean[/name_m]. Our last name is O’[name_m]Brien[/name_m]. Thanks!
I like the name [name_u]Riley[/name_u], but as you said, it could be a very popular name. Though, saying that, if you like it - go for it!
I’m not too keen on [name_m]Sean[/name_m], but that’s probably because it seems like I’ve met about 1 million of them.
I’m not sure if you’ll like any of the names suggested, but here I go:
[name_m]Ethan[/name_m] - always comes to my head when I hear [name_u]Aidan[/name_u]
[name_u]Kit[/name_u]
[name_m]Isaac[/name_m]
[name_m]Tobias[/name_m]
[name_u]Elias[/name_u]
[name_u]Ryan[/name_u]
[name_m]Jonas[/name_m]
[name_m]George[/name_m]
[name_u]Noah[/name_u]
[name_m]Heath[/name_m]
[name_m]Lucas[/name_m]
[name_m]Nathan[/name_m]
[name_m]Jonah[/name_m]
Thanks for the suggestions!! I like a lot of them, if not all…the only problem is that we really have to use a [name_m]Saint[/name_m] name or it won’t feel right to us so [name_u]Kit[/name_u], [name_m]Ethan[/name_m], [name_u]Ryan[/name_u], and [name_m]Heath[/name_m] aren’t usable
[name_u]Noah[/name_u] is way too popular for sure, my son knows a LOT from his school.
I had an Irish great-uncle named [name_m]Aloysius[/name_m]… pronounced al-oh-wish-ius… nn Uncle Wish. Well, it’s a wonderful nn.
For something that might be a bit more trendy, maybe:
[name_m]Louis[/name_m]/[name_m]Lewis[/name_m] (the English/Latin version of [name_m]Aloysius[/name_m]!)
[name_m]Abel[/name_m]
[name_m]Brendan[/name_m] (forget 90210, I have always loved this Irish name)
[name_m]Brian[/name_m]
[name_m]Colman[/name_m]
[name_m]Ciaran[/name_m]/[name_m]Keir[/name_m]
[name_m]Charles[/name_m]
[name_m]Cormac[/name_m]
[name_m]Declan[/name_m]
[name_m]Eric[/name_m] (St. Erc of Slane, although I’m probably mistranslating)
[name_u]Finn[/name_u]
[name_m]Gerald[/name_m]
Lachtin (different, but a legit Irish saint)
[name_m]Malachy[/name_m]/[name_m]Mac[/name_m]
[name_m]Oliver[/name_m] (St. [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] Plunkett)
[name_m]Ronan[/name_m]
