looking for tomboy names/nick names-not necessarily unisex names!

I am back again…Last time I posted that I was looking for similar names to [name]Phoebe[/name] and [name]Lucia[/name]. My husband and I have quite different tastes in names-he is very much on the side that girls names should be girls names (like most of the people on this site-I think)! I however have a unisex name ([name]Jo[/name]) so I am quite happy to use [name]Hadley[/name] or [name]Kennedy[/name]. (My husband sees these name as too masculine)!
I am now having the re-think that perhaps I could go with a girly name (not too frilly though)! And use a tomboy nickname. I have read the blog of tomboy nick names and I am sure there are others out here. It would be a nice way to please both mum and dad-and she can decide which she prefers depending on if she is a girly girl or a tom boy!
([name]Phoebe[/name] and [name]Lucia[/name] are still high on the list-but please don’t comment on these names-just need some help with suggestions ).
[name]Alexi[/name]-is a name that he has okayed. BUT [name]Alexandra[/name] really is getting too frilly/formal for me ([name]Just[/name] so you can get the jist of my naming style-pretty simple)
Thank you in advance!

Hmm, what about [name]Eleni[/name]? Or names that could get to [name]Eleni[/name], like [name]Madeleine[/name] or [name]Eleanor[/name]? She could go by [name]Leni[/name] if she was more spunky/tomboyish, and [name]Ella[/name] or [name]Ellie[/name] if she was more girly. Or even [name]Laney[/name], or [name]Maddie[/name] or [name]Norah[/name] for [name]Madeleine[/name]/[name]Eleanor[/name].

I also like just [name]Lou[/name]… it seems very unisex, but it holds a feminine appeal to me (or maybe [name]Louisa[/name]/[name]Louise[/name]/[name]Lucia[/name] nn [name]Lou[/name]). Or there’s also [name]Greer[/name]–I saw on one site that the [name]Grier[/name] spelling is 100% a girls’ name, but [name]Greer[/name]/[name]Grier[/name] feels very unisex to me.

I also have always thought that [name]Izzy[/name] would fit a tomboy quite well. I think [name]Isabelle[/name]/a, [name]Felicity[/name], and [name]Isadora[/name] are nice longer forms.

Good luck!

Hehe! [name]Ashley[/name] you have just chosen three names from my family! [name]Eleanor[/name] is my mother in law-[name]Madeline[/name] is my cousin and [name]Ella[/name] (my screen-name) is my neice…I do like [name]Ash[/name] though!

haha. Well, I like [name]Ash[/name], too! I’ve pretty much stopped going by [name]Ash[/name] in real person, though, so I could use [name]Asher[/name] nn [name]Ash[/name] for a son one day. I think [name]Aislinn[/name]/[name]Ashlyn[/name] or [name]Asha[/name] nn [name]Ash[/name] could be nice options for you. They don’t seem that formal/frilly to me at all. Or even [name]Ashby[/name]? That’s more unisex, but it’s sweet, imo, and she could go by [name]Ash[/name] or [name]Bea[/name].

Yes-[name]Asha[/name] and [name]Ashby[/name] could work.-thanks  My last name ends with a n and I have found very few names that end with n go with it! (I really like [name]Arden[/name] for example but can’t use it).

I also have a thing for [name]Roxy[/name]/[name]Roxie[/name], short for [name]Roxanne[/name] or [name]Roxanna[/name]. And you have my new fave now too from my other thread to add to your list (hope your hubby likes it!), so you could have your [name]Ash[/name] nickname.

What do you think of girly names with tomboyish nicknames?
[name]Araminta[/name] (Mint, [name]Minty[/name])

[name]Samantha[/name] / [name]Sam[/name]?
[name]Natalie[/name] / [name]Nat[/name]?

[name]Love[/name] @ash’s suggestion of [name]Madeleine[/name]. Our dd is [name]Madeline[/name] and while I don’t like [name]Maddie[/name] and am hoping to avoid it, sometimes we call her [name]Mads[/name] or Madsie (tho Madsie is girlie to me, idk). I think [name]Mads[/name] veers into tomboy territory. What about [name]Tessa[/name], nn [name]Tess[/name]? That feels like it could go girlie or tomboy to me! I also in a girl named [name]Rosie[/name] that was such a tomboy and wore [name]Rosie[/name] so well, so I now have a tomboy image for [name]Rosie[/name], but again it could go either way.

It’s funny that you feel that [name]Alexandra[/name] is too frilly because that’s my given name and I felt that way for a really long time. In vain my mom tried to get me to wear anything but long pants for almost 10 years. Clearly I’ve changed my mind with a little age - skirts are now my friend and I now go by [name]Lexie[/name].
But as a kid I went by, [name]Al[/name], [name]Lex[/name], and most commonly [name]Alex[/name].

So I’m going to play a little devils advocate. Because I defiantly grew to love my name.
[name]Charlotte[/name] ([name]Charlie[/name])
[name]Dorothy[/name] ([name]Dot[/name])
[name]Phillipa[/name] ([name]Pip[/name])
[name]Victoria[/name] ([name]Vic[/name])

Now for my more serious suggestions ;). These are nice and short have a clear feminine leaning but don’t sound to frilly or girly to me. If fact most of these names come from girls I know who are huge tomboys.
[name]Fiona[/name] ([name]Fe[/name])
[name]Zoe[/name] ([name]Zo[/name])

[name]Lexie[/name] is actually on the list! [name]Love[/name] [name]Natalie[/name] (not because it is tomboy)-she is also being born xmas week and [name]Natalie[/name] means [name]Christmas[/name]…[name]Samantha[/name] is my cat! (But would have been perfect)!
What do people think of [name]Feo[/name]?

IDK if I’d do that, [name]Feo[/name] is the word for “ugly” in spanish…

oh I didn’t know that…!
