Just wondering if you think this works? I figure if Rory is an option then why not… Maybe the spelling Reiley? Some other spelling?
I say it Lor-uh-lye

Do you think Rory makes sense as a nickname?
Why would the “vibe” of a nickname need to match the full name? For example Charlotte nn Charlie is obviously not the same vibe and thats a good thing.
[name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] has the “ril-eye” built in so I if I knew this I would instinctively pronounce [name_u]Riley[/name_u] as “Ril-eye” as a nick though. Stretch but safe, imo.
Soundwise I can see it working. But tbh they feel very different… I’m not sure why Lorelei would want to be called Riley, something with an entirely different vibe and does not sound nickname-y, unless she dislikes her name?
Yeah, sure! The sounds are there somewhat so I don’t see why not. I have [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] as #1 on my list with the nickname [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], I’ve loved this for the past 6 or 7 years. And I got it from ‘aid’ backwards so
Mm, it’s a stretch, but I do think it works. I’d keep the Riley spelling.
That said, though it does work I agree with ethelmary that Riley is quite different from Lorelei and has a completely different vibe. I’d expect a Lorelei to be called Lor, Lorie, Lola, Rory or Lei as a nickname, not Riley. Maybe even Lili.
I think if you used the Lor-uh-lee pronunciation it would make sense, but personally I think [name_u]Riley[/name_u] is too much of a stretch from lor-uh-ligh. Additionally, I think most of the other nicknames for [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] still capture the nice vintage charm of the name, whereas [name_u]Riley[/name_u] doesn’t do that for me.
I think it’s a bit of a stretch but it could work. However, I feel [name_u]Riley[/name_u] is a whole name on its own with a different vibe from [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f].
It’s too much of a stretch in my opinion. [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] doesn’t need a nickname, and even if she does, [name_u]Riley[/name_u] is definitely not my favorite option. I think it even ruins the name a bit, sorry.
I guess it works but for me, this falls under the category of why use a more uncommon full name (Lorelei) to get to a common, perfectly fine, and unrelated nickname (Riley)? If [name_u]Riley[/name_u] naturally occurs as a pet name or occasional nickname, that’s one thing, but if you would just call her [name_u]Riley[/name_u] then just name her [name_u]Riley[/name_u].
Does anyone think [name_u]Rory[/name_u] makes sense? I don’t think I would use [name_u]Riley[/name_u] or [name_u]Rory[/name_u] personally. I do think they are very similar and both just share some sounds in [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] without being obvious nicknames.
I can kind of see it, but think that, if she wants to be named [name_u]Riley[/name_u], she should probably just change it to that. Names are very personal, so I think it’s important to find the one you’re most comfortable with. Honestly, just go by whatever name you want to be called.
