I came across this name 8 months or so ago. I had heard it before somewhere in my childhoo, but never heard or thought about it again.

I am in love with how it sounds, but I have a few concerns…

  1. [name_m]Gilmore[/name_m] Girls?
  • I have never seen this show and hadn’t even heard of it until I started looking into this name. I am British, but I live in the states. Is this a strong association people will have? Is it a bad association?
  1. Pronunciation?
  • Many people are going to pronounce this name incorrectly right? Like LoreLAY?

I think I love the name because of the repeated sound. The L in the beginning being repeated.

Can anybody think of any other names like this? With the letter L or any other letter.

Thanks everyone! We are not finding out the sex this time (we already have 1 boy and 1 girl) so it’s extra stressful finding names for both outcomes.

I’ve never seen [name_m]Gilmore[/name_m] Girls, either and I never knew about the [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] thing until people told me about it. The only association I make with [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] is to the one little girl I met with the name. So the association for me is good. Plus, I love the name =]

Unfortunately, a few people were unsure how to pronounce this little girl’s name until they were told by her mother, myself included. I thought it was [name_f]Lora[/name_f]-lay =\

I think this name is growing in popularity (not too much!) and with the one, small [name_m]Gilmore[/name_m] Girls association, it makes the name a bit more recognizable. It’s such a great name, though. I know I would definitely still consider it, pronunciation issues and all!

I used to actually love this name, still do. However, I do find it unusable.

  1. I will always think of [name_m]Gilmore[/name_m] Girls, not that that’s a bad thing, I love both of the characters that harbor this name.

  2. I pronounce it [name_f]Laura[/name_f]-lye, but I do think it would be pronounced [name_f]Lore[/name_f]-lye, and will forever be a spelling question.

I actually find this name unusable though due to it’s meaning- temptress. I just can’t get past it, especially when there are so many other names out there.

I think that while the meaning may not be the most appropriate for a little girl, she won’t be little forever. I may not be the best person to judge this because I don’t really pay much attention to meaning, but I don’t think a lot of people ask/know the meaning of someone else’s name.

When she gets older, I actually think it’s a pretty awesome meaning. I would like for my name to mean temptress, it’s cool and mysterious!
