Loretta

Hey everyone!

What are your thoughts on [name_f]Loretta[/name_f], with the nickname [name_f]Etta[/name_f]?

I love it!

I don’t know what generation you are, but the first association that springs to my mind is actually from an old Disney [name_f]Channel[/name_f] movie where there is a hologram singer named [name_f]Loretta[/name_f], haha. (not necessarily a good or bad thing, just a random association). Anyway, the name I find pretty, and I prefer the nickname [name_f]Etta[/name_f] because I think if [name_f]Loretta[/name_f] were nicknamed [name_f]Lori[/name_f], it would make it sound dated.

[name_f]Loretta[/name_f] sounds a bit dated to me.

I think it is beautiful and nicely vintage without being the go-to vintage choice.

I think you are forward-thinking because I believe -etta names are going to be huge.

I love the name for one reason: the always exquisitely beautiful [name_f]Loretta[/name_f] [name_m]Young[/name_m]. Good enough for me and [name_f]Etta[/name_f] is cute.

[name_u]Leslie[/name_u]

I think it’s refreshing. I’m so tired of the same staid, frilly old lady names that are popular these days. I loved them 10 years ago, before my daughter was born (just turned 8). I’m so glad I steered clear of the trend. I’m so sick of hearing most of them. Yay for [name_f]Loretta[/name_f]!

I also think [name_f]Letty[/name_f] could work for this name, and I love that nickname.

Yay, it’s nice. It reminds me to Loreto (traditional name in Spain). And I like [name_f]Etta[/name_f].

I love it!!!

I think [name_f]Loretta[/name_f] is nice but I’m generally not a fan of American -[name_f]Etta[/name_f] names (though I do like just [name_f]Etta[/name_f]), so the American Loredda isn’t quite for me.

I just love reading your anti-American comments, especially when it’s clear you have no idea what you’re talking about. Not every [name_u]North[/name_u] American accent turns the “t” sound into a “d” sound. Our “t” sounds generally aren’t as hard as [name_m]German[/name_m] “t” sounds, true, but that does not make them wrong.

Anyway, I think [name_f]Loretta[/name_f] is an awesome name regardless of how hard you’re pronouncing your t’s.

I’m not keen but we all came with our own backgrounds and history here, it’s to country and western for me, but if that’s your thing, then great.

I once considered naming a daughter [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] [name_f]Loretta[/name_f]–nickname [name_f]Margalo[/name_f].

Thanks everyone! Actually, the reason I like this name so much is because of [name_f]Loretta[/name_f] [name_u]Lynn[/name_u]! I appreciate all your opinions, thanks!

I’m just not feeling [name_f]Loretta[/name_f]. [name_f]Etta[/name_f] is really pretty though.

My anti-American comments?
Expressing my opinion that I don’t like a certain pronunciation of a name (in this case the American “edda” pronunciation), I personally wouldn’t consider anti-American!
And no, the American t isn’t as hard as the German one, however, I’m not comparing American pronunciations to German ones but rather English ones (which, like the American pronunciation can differ a lot but people generally understand the distinction I’m trying to make immediately).
So yes, there may be Americans who pronounce the Ts sharply but the number of people who do seems to be significantly smaller than the one who don’t.

I also never said that American Ts are wrong, maybe read my comments instead of interpreting them as you wish

It’s a bit like saying I don’t like the Latin American pronunciation of Barcelona while I do like the Spanish one; there’s really nothing anti-LA in that sentence but rather my personal opinion about a word or in Lotetta’s case, name, which I was asked to express here.

I think it is adorable. I have come across 3 [name_f]Loretta[/name_f]'s in my lifetime and all 3 were in different age ranges so I have never seen it as a dated name. The fact that it is slightly unique is also fun.

I love it! The only person I know with this name is a family friend’s little daughter named [name_f]Loretta[/name_f] [name_f]Sparrow[/name_f] nn [name_f]Etta[/name_f], which I just adore! xx

My only association with [name_f]Loretta[/name_f] is the Beatles song “Get Back”.

I like [name_f]Loretta[/name_f], and love [name_f]Etta[/name_f].
