I really love Lorien. I’m already pretty certain on my combos, but I’d like to see if anyone could find a place for Lorien in one of them. Or maybe make a new combo I might like.
For those that don’t know, it’s pronounced lor-ee-in and it’s a place name from LOTR, but the books and Tolkien have been a huge influence on my writing and I would love to find a place to use Lorien as a middle name.
I think [name]Sylvana[/name] Lorien Mist is an excellent improvement. I didn’t like the repetitious nature of [name]Sylvana[/name] [name]Xiomara[/name].
(Similarly, [name]Persephone[/name] [name]Elysia[/name] has a similar problem wherein the ending -e in [name]Persephone[/name] runs into [name]Elysia[/name], but I know that combination is sacrosanct. ;))
Thanks for the response. The repetitive sounds don’t bother me too much since their in the middle, but I understand why a lot of people don’t like it. And you can certainly say anything you like about my [name]Persephone[/name] combo, but no, I won’t change it. It has so much meaning to me there’s no way I could. Besides that, The beginning E in [name]Elysia[/name] is pronounced with en EH sound like eh-lee-see-uh and the end E in [name]Persephone[/name] is EE but I can see the slight running together
And I love Persephine [name]Elysia[/name] [name]Willow[/name] so much, never tamper with it! All of those are so dear to me, but boyfriend won’t let me use them…
I actually know someone with a daughter named Lorien, so I assumed this post would be as a first name! Since you only seem to not be attached to [name]Xiomara[/name] is does make sense that you’d replace that one - and the flow works fine. I would prefer though [name]Sylvana[/name] [name]Xiomara[/name] Lorien. Although they don’t sound the same for some reason with Lorien Mist I keep thinking of [name]Sierra[/name] Mist. But as I said, it’s a random association.
I like it, honestly though I feel you might want to add a more neutral name in there. I know a few kids who’s parents chose lovely, meaningful, very uncommon names and the child sometimes wishes to go by a mn ‘[name]Charlotte[/name]’ for one night. I do like your choice though, Lorein could also easily pass of as a normal name to anyone who hasn’t read the book
Neuily – People say that a lot about [name]Sierra[/name] Mist Mist was the name of one of [name]Odin[/name]'s Valkyries (just to provide some context for the name)
I agree that a more “normal” name is usually needed (as I have one in my other combos) but felt that the nn [name]Sylvie[/name] or [name]Sylvia[/name] would be normal enough and you are right, Lorien just sounds like a frilly version of [name]Loren[/name]/[name]Lauren[/name] so hopefully it works fine.
[name]Do[/name] any stand out? Sometimes mixing everything around helps me sort out my real feelings abt a name or a combo Good luck [name]Angel[/name]
p.s. sorry if there are repeats
*a personal fave from the mix-up list: [name]Sylvana[/name] Lorien [name]Signe[/name]
Wow, big list ellieberry! There’s a lot of nice combos in there. I’ll have to really sit down and think about a lot of them before making any sort of decision. Thanks for the time and effort you put into that!
I vastly prefer Lorien to [name]Xiomara[/name]. Vastly. I think [name]Sylvana[/name] Lorien Mist conjures images that are all along the same lines, of silvery misty woods, whereas [name]Xiomara[/name] is sort of jarring and out of place.
This. Exactly. I also really love [name]Guinevere[/name] Lorian [name]Signe[/name] (as a previous poster has suggested) Or [name]Guinevere[/name] Lorian [name]Saga[/name].
Sorry if I went overboard on the list! I hope it is not counter productive… These three are my favorites that use Lorian in the middle sopt & still keep the 2 syllable name at the end like you seem to like. There are just so many awesome possible combos with such great names!
I really do adore Lorien as a name, and I blame @ottilie haha. [name]Sylvana[/name] Lorien Mist is so lovely, and gives off great ethereal and “woodsy” imagery. I also think nn [name]Sylvie[/name] and [name]Damien[/name] make a cute theorethical sibset. =]
Honestly, you wanted an homage to [name]Pan[/name], and [name]Sylvana[/name] Lorien Mist gets in two woodsy references, a Tolkien name (which is important to your personal and intellectual development) and a Germanic mythology name for your husband. It’s great!
@[name]Blade[/name] – Yes, I picked [name]Sylvana[/name] as an homage to [name]Pan[/name], Lorien is such a woodsy and beautiful place in the books, and the books and author are important to me. Besides all that, Mist is for my husband and the whole thing feels so woodsy and beautiful. I think that’s the one I’ll go with (if he’ll agree).
