Lorna & Tara?

2 very ‘dated’ 90s names I have a soft spot for. Opinions? (All welcome )

[name_f]Lorna[/name_f] is my favourite name! I know a 5 year old with this name, but I’m in [name_u]England[/name_u] so might not be seen as especially dated over here as in the US.

I don’t really have any opinions on [name_f]Tara[/name_f], tbh.

I’m also in the UK. I think [name_f]Lorna[/name_f] has a lovely Scottish feel, I think of [name_f]Lorna[/name_f] [name_u]Doone[/name_u]. But I think because it’s popular use in recent memory was around the 90s (at least where I’m from) it can feel dated despite being a much older name. I don’t mind that for this particular name as I don’t think it was ever so common as to stay particularly tied to this time, unlike say something like [name_u]Kelly[/name_u]. I’d love to meet a little [name_f]Lorna[/name_f]

I like [name_f]Lorna[/name_f] - it’s sharp and distinctive!

[name_f]Tara[/name_f] is kind of cute - it’s got international vibes

I love Lorna, weirdly to me it has kind of a witchy vibe! I think it’s really sweet, and I like the nickname Lor. Tara isn’t my cup of tea, I just find it a bit dated and plain (and I’m especially not fond of the American tair-ah pronunciation).

I really like both of these names!

For Lorna, this is my impression too →

And for Tara, I tend to think of Ireland (i.e. Hill of Tara), & also Scarlett O’Hara’s home in Gone With the Wind.

I find Tara a very mystical & beautiful-sounding name, as long as it’s pronounced TAH-ra, and not TAY-ra.

[name_f]Lorna[/name_f] has a certain midcentury charm to my ear. As a 90s kid, midcentury names tend to sound the most “dated” to me, but this one actually sounds cute and charming. I would be pleasantly surprised to meet a [name_f]Lorna[/name_f].

I’ve always loved Tara… I was just thinking about it yesterday actually! It’s simple but really versatile and it has a cute sound! I like both pronunciations, although I’ve found tare-uh much more common than taar-uh where I’m from.

[name_f]My[/name_f] pronunciation would be tah-ra and I concur with your associations  thankyou

I agree with the witchy thing!

Agreed. No one pronounces it tair-ah in just country so it would definitely be tah-ra X
