I posted on here a few weeks ago about having name regret with what we named our little girl born in April. I got some great support and advice from everyone. We gave it more time and we officially decided that the name we originally chose just does not seem to fit her, so we are moving forward with changing it.
I am looking to get opinions from others on whether Lottie is good as a standalone name for a baby girl born in 2022. My husband LOVES this name, it’s really the only name he has fallen in love with. I think it’s cool and fun, but I have some reservations about how it will age. However, Poppy and Millie are seemingly established standalone names (though I am sure some don’t like them), and I don’t see Lottie as different. I also know it’s popular in the UK. We do not like the longer names that get you Lottie as a nickname, and that’s the trouble we got into with the first name, using a name we didn’t love just to get a nickname, so we don’t want to do that again.
Her middle name would be June, as it’s an honor name for us.
If you do think Lottie works as a standalone, would you spell it this way, or would anyone spell it differently?
Here in the U.K. I have met girls named [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] as a whole name. I love it and think it works just as well as names like [name_f]Katie[/name_f] and [name_f]Rosie[/name_f]
I do think it can be a stand alone name. I think that people will assume that’s it’s a nickname but that’s not such a big deal. It’s great that you’ve found something you like! I also like [name_f]Libby[/name_f] but that’s similarly used as a nickname.
I think [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u] is super cute! [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] was actually on my own list for a while, but I don’t like how it goes with our surname. I wouldn’t be too concerned about it not being a “full” name, as many nickname-y names have become super popular. I like that spelling best, and think it’s the most classic.
I think it’s absolutely fine as a stand-alone. I definitely favor having formal and nn but I have one kiddo whose name is just his name and that’s perfect for him
As far as aging as trendiness goes I don’t think that’s an issue with since [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] won’t be going anywhere and neither should [name_f]Lottie[/name_f].
I know a 10-year-old [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] (full name) here in the US! She’s such a delightful kid–chatty, kind-hearted, a big reader. As far as I know no one has batted an eye at her being just [name_f]Lottie[/name_f]. I think you should go for it!
I think that is perfectly fine! People may assume that it is a nickname, but it is VERY adorable! I prefer it as a nn for more opportunities, but with [name_u]June[/name_u], I love it! go for it!
I love [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] as a standalone! The only [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] I know is just [name_f]Lottie[/name_f]. Her mother is [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], and her little girl is just [name_f]Lottie[/name_f]. I love it!! Also, I can see it aging really well. Such a delightful name.
[name_f]Lottie[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u] would so sweet!! I definitely think [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] works well as a stand-alone name! I’m not sure how else you would spell it, so I would just spell it as [name_f]Lottie[/name_f]
[name_f]Lottie[/name_f] definitely works as a stand alone name and is a relatively popular choice in the UK where nickname names are very fashionable currently. [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] is such a sweet wholesome name that has an attractive vintage flair and I think would work well fitting in with all the Evie’s, Winnie’s, Ellie’s that will most likely be in her class. I also think [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] feels rather timeless to me she has similar feels to [name_f]Betty[/name_f] & [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] rather traditional nickname choice. [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u] is such a lovely name.
Thank you so very much, everyone! It’s very helpful to hear that you all think Lottie is acceptable as a first name.
@tonguetwisted - thank you! how would you pronounce Lotte in the US?
I prefer the spelling Lotte, but the pronunciation would be Lott-IE. Do you think Lotte would be pronounced LOT in the US and just best to go with Lottie if we want that pronounciation?
