[name_f]Do[/name_f] have any cut nickname suggestions for [name_f]Claudia[/name_f]? The only one I’ve liked so far is [name_f]Lottie[/name_f], but do you think it’s too big of a stretch? [name_f]Claudia[/name_f] honors my grandmother and I would love to use it.
Also, If I used it as a middle name; what first-name would you suggest?
I find it a huge stretch, personally. In an American accent, less so, but I can’t get past the lack of any T sounds in [name_f]Claudia[/name_f] and the different au and o sounds - like claw vs cloth. I do like [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] as a nn though, quite a lot. [name_f]Lotte[/name_f] is my preferred spelling.
NNs for [name_f]Claudia[/name_f] - maybe [name_f]Clia[/name_f]/[name_f]Clea[/name_f] or Dear ([name_f]Dia[/name_f])? [name_f]Auda[/name_f]?
I think it depends where you live. I’m in [name_f]England[/name_f], and I pronounce [name_f]Claudia[/name_f] and [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] very very differently, so I don’t think [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] would work at all as a nickname for [name_f]Claudia[/name_f].
For me [name_f]Claudia[/name_f] is KLAW-dee-ə or KLOW-dee-ah, and [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] is lo(t)-tee, so there’s no similarity.
I second the previous posters’ suggestions but I think [name_f]Lulu[/name_f] would be even more of a stretch than [name_f]Lottie[/name_f]. My favourite nicknames are [name_f]Claudie[/name_f]/[name_u]Claude[/name_u] or [name_u]Cloud[/name_u], depending how you pronounce it, but I’m assuming you’ve already considered those. I really like the suggestions of [name_f]Clia[/name_f] and [name_f]Auda[/name_f], I’d also suggest [name_u]Audie[/name_u] and [name_f]Cece[/name_f].
Thanks everyone! I’m just brainstorming for the future, but thought I’d ask. When I say [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] I pronounce it with a “D” sound. I like [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Claudia[/name_f]. I actually really Like [name_f]Tess[/name_f] [name_f]Claudia[/name_f], but my name is [name_f]Tess[/name_f]. (short for [name_f]Teresa[/name_f]) I like [name_f]Audi[/name_f] and [name_f]Lulu[/name_f] as well.
I would pronounce Laudy and [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] the exact same way; “caught” and “cot” are homophones for me, and I say “little” with the same d sound as “ladle.” So even though [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] is spelled nothing like [name_f]Claudia[/name_f], in my dialect it still seems like a viable nickname.
[name_f]Claudia[/name_f] is a beautiful name though, and it’s already plenty short in my opinion, so I’ve never thought about nicknames for it. If I had to choose one, I actually love the suggestion of [name_u]Cloud[/name_u]!
