Trying to narrow down our list if this baby is a boy. We’ve recently started liking the name Louie (or Louis, pronounced Louie). We haven’t really worried about the spelling yet, but more interested in your thoughts on the name in general.
How about as a brother to M@riel, C0ra, and Nik0lai?
Little One will live in both Central Europe and the Southern part of the US, if that helps.
I know you’re not asking about spelling, but as a person in the southern US I’d guess [name_m]Louis[/name_m] will get you “Lewis” so I’d go with [name_u]Louie[/name_u] if that’s a concern.
It’s a cute name! Goes well with siblings. [name_m]Louis[/name_m] makes me think of [name_u]French[/name_u] kings but that’s about it.
Thanks! That’s exactly what I’m worried about - I’ve known a few people named [name_m]Louis[/name_m] in the US, and all have gone exclusively by the [name_m]Lewis[/name_m] pronunciation. We’re only interested in the -ie pronunciation, so thinking that spelling is our best option.
[name_u]French[/name_u] kings are my main association too, that and jazz music, which isn’t too bad!
Thanks, everyone! I’m happy to hear the positive feedback. It’s really helpful! I’m glad it seems to go well with our other kids’ names too!
I also appreciate the spelling thoughts. I’m struggling a bit with this one because I generally prefer formal spellings + nicknames, rather than just a nickname spelling. But in this case, I’m worried most people would say [name_m]Lewis[/name_m] for [name_m]Louis[/name_m], and not [name_u]Louie[/name_u], which is definitely not what we’re after.
We’re also considering another [name_u]Lu[/name_u]- type name (Lucian, for example) with [name_u]Louie[/name_u] as a nickname. Any ideas/suggestions on that? Is that a bad idea?
love louis, its actually one of my favorites! i think louis goes good with the sibset, which is beautiful by the way! i think id be great in both europe, and the southern us. :))
I really like it! I don’t know why [name_m]Louis[/name_m] and [name_m]Lewis[/name_m] don’t both get more use. I do imagine in the US [name_m]Louis[/name_m] might get pronounced like [name_m]Lewis[/name_m], but there’s also Louisville, so a quick correction should be easy enough.
I’m also so surprised they aren’t more popular, but that makes them nice sweet spot names today! I also love that they flow with all of the [name_u]Lu[/name_u]- names that are so popular (Luke, [name_m]Lukas[/name_m], [name_u]Luca[/name_u], etc.), but aren’t too popular.
I think between St. [name_m]Louis[/name_m], Louisville and [name_f]Louisiana[/name_f], there are so many pronunciations that it should be manageable
Aw, thank you! I’m loving all the love that [name_m]Louis[/name_m] is getting. We’re strongly leaning towards this as our frontrunner now. And of course, it helps that big sisters love the name too
I love that it’s a name that wears and ages timelessly. It’s so sweet on a little boy, but equally handsome, distinguished, and respectable on a man of any age.
As much as I love [name_m]Louis[/name_m] and all the love it’s getting, [name_u]Louie[/name_u] is what I’m leaning towards for this very reason, for simplicity’s sake. But [name_m]Louis[/name_m] is so nice too!
