Louisa vs Luisa

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] all

I am just wondering which spelling do you prefer? [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] or [name_f]Luisa[/name_f]? Middle name is likely to be [name_f]Sofie[/name_f]. I am British with some [name_m]French[/name_m] and Scandinavian heritage. I live in the UK.

Thanks in advance.

I pronounce the two differently (I’m an American English and [name_m]French[/name_m] speaker for context):
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f] = [name_u]Lou[/name_u]-eez-uh
[name_f]Luisa[/name_f] = [name_u]Lou[/name_u]-ees-uh

I think both are pretty! [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] seems like it would be the “default” for English and [name_m]French[/name_m] speakers, and [name_f]Luisa[/name_f] for Spanish.

I personally prefer [name_f]Luisa[/name_f]. I find it much more beautiful than [name_f]Louisa[/name_f], which I think tends to look stuffy.

It’s very interesting for me to see that [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] and [name_f]Luisa[/name_f] is sometimes pronounced differently. [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] is the default spelling in the UK I believe.

I love the look of [name_f]Luisa[/name_f] just because I like [name_f]Lu[/name_f] names a lot. [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] is the spelling I would probably use though just because I don’t want to keep spelling my name out all the time.

Thanks to my Mum I have chosen the spelling [name_f]Louisa[/name_f]. Thanks to all who commented.
