So we have a tradition where we use family names as the middle name. This time we would like to honor both our moms (if possible). The names we have to work with are [name_f]Lori[/name_f] [name_f]Ann[/name_f] and [name_f]Amy[/name_f] [name_u]Lou[/name_u]. We thought of [name_f]Louann[/name_f] or [name_f]Louanna[/name_f]. Not sure I love either as they sound out dated to me… Would it be super weird to use [name_f]Louisiana[/name_f]? Any help appreciated!
I don’t think it works. With the exception of [name_f]Virginia[/name_f], [name_f]Carolina[/name_f] and [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] (these were names before they were states), I think ALL state names are unattractive for boys and girls. [name_u]Tennessee[/name_u]…[name_u]Dakota[/name_u]… [name_u]Montana[/name_u]… [name_f]Louisiana[/name_f]… Oklahoma…[name_u]Utah[/name_u]…all of them. I think [name_f]Louanna[/name_f] works, but how about Loredana, [name_f]Annelore[/name_f] or [name_f]Luciana[/name_f] (close to [name_f]Louisiana[/name_f]! But pronounced Loo-chee-ah-na)
I love state/place names, I think it’s a really unique and unexpected middle name!
I think [name_f]Louisiana[/name_f] is cute - I probably wouldn’t do it myself as my style tends to veer more traditional, but if it feels right to you, then go for it. You could also do a double-barreled middle name (hyphenated as one name or just two middles) like [name_f]Louise[/name_f]-[name_f]Anna[/name_f] or [name_f]Louisa[/name_f]-[name_f]Ann[/name_f] or some combination like that, and then you could use “[name_f]Louisiana[/name_f]” as a sweet pet name without it being her formal, legal middle name :).
Other names to play with…
Playing off of ‘[name_u]Lou[/name_u]’ - [name_u]Eloise[/name_u], [name_f]Lilou[/name_f], [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]/[name_f]Lucia[/name_f]/[name_f]Lucille[/name_f]/[name_f]Luciana[/name_f] (ooh! [name_f]Luciana[/name_f] honors [name_f]Lori[/name_f] [name_f]ANN[/name_f] and [name_f]Amy[/name_f] [name_u]LOU[/name_u]!)
Playing off of ‘[name_f]Amy[/name_f]’ - [name_f]May[/name_f] or [name_f]Mya[/name_f] (anagrams of [name_f]Amy[/name_f]), [name_f]Amity[/name_f], [name_f]Amabelle[/name_f], [name_f]Amber[/name_f], [name_f]Amberly[/name_f], [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u], [name_u]Jamie[/name_u], [name_f]Emmy[/name_f], [name_f]Jessamyn[/name_f], [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]/[name_f]Amelie[/name_f], [name_f]Mamie[/name_f]
From ‘[name_f]Lori[/name_f]’ - [name_f]Laura[/name_f]/[name_f]Lora[/name_f], [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f], [name_f]Laura[/name_f]-[name_u]Leigh[/name_u], [name_f]Lauren[/name_f], [name_f]Laureen[/name_f], [name_f]Lorena[/name_f], [name_f]Elora[/name_f], [name_f]Flora[/name_f], [name_f]Florence[/name_f], [name_f]Gloria[/name_f], Lorabelle, [name_f]Laurel[/name_f], [name_f]Lorna[/name_f], [name_f]Malorie[/name_f]
From ‘[name_f]Ann[/name_f]’ – [name_f]Ana[/name_f], [name_f]Anna[/name_f], [name_f]Anabelle[/name_f]/[name_f]Anabella[/name_f], Anaveive, [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f], [name_m]Adrian[/name_m]/[name_f]Adriana[/name_f], [name_f]Alana[/name_f]/[name_f]Aliana[/name_f], [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f], [name_f]Analise[/name_f]/[name_f]Analisa[/name_f], [name_u]Andrea[/name_u], [name_f]Angelina[/name_f]/[name_f]Angelica[/name_f]/[name_f]Angela[/name_f], [name_f]Annika[/name_f], [name_f]Annona[/name_f], [name_f]Ansley[/name_f], [name_f]Anya[/name_f], [name_f]Ariana[/name_f], [name_f]Brianne[/name_f]/[name_f]Brianna[/name_f], Brittania, [name_f]Cassandra[/name_f], [name_f]Eliana[/name_f], [name_f]Hannah[/name_f], [name_f]Annabeth[/name_f], [name_f]Janna[/name_f], [name_f]Juliana[/name_f], [name_f]Leanne[/name_f]/[name_f]Leanna[/name_f], [name_f]Lilianna[/name_f], [name_f]Mariana[/name_f], [name_f]Rhiannon[/name_f], [name_f]Roxanne[/name_f], [name_f]Samantha[/name_f], [name_f]Savannah[/name_f], [name_f]Susannah[/name_f], [name_f]Tianna[/name_f], [name_f]Vanna[/name_f], [name_f]Zanna[/name_f]
Combos which would honor both: [name_f]Laura[/name_f]-[name_f]May[/name_f], [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]-[name_f]Ann[/name_f], [name_f]Flora[/name_f]-[name_f]May[/name_f], [name_f]Mya[/name_f] [name_f]Brianne[/name_f], [name_f]Malorie[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f], [name_f]Lorena[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f], [name_f]Lauren[/name_f] [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Anne[/name_f]
I think it works perfectly as an honor middle name. I think it’s unique, but not too weird, especially with the other state/place names that people use often.
I think [name_f]Louisiana[/name_f] works. Another idea for you is [name_f]Amanda[/name_f], to combine [name_f]Amy[/name_f] and [name_f]Ann[/name_f].
It has charm but it’s also a bit long at 5 syllables. You’ll have plenty of nicknames to choose from, though! Luisiana is the Creole spelling.
other possibilities:
[name_f]Lenora[/name_f]
[name_f]Luana[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Anne/name_f
I think using [name_f]Louisiana[/name_f] as a name works just fine, I just don’t think it works as an honor name for your grandmothers. My personal preference would be to use the names of both grandmothers in full, or if they are too long, pick the dominant part of their names. I’ve overly obscured a family reference in my son’s name and as a result, nobody felt honored.
As a middle name, I think it’s okay and it’s cool that it honors two people.
I love it! I like that it sounds like a real name if you disassociate the state meaning. Go for it. [name_m]Just[/name_m] don’t tell my husband about it; he is from [name_m]New[/name_m] Orleans and would probably insist we name our next girl [name_f]Louisiana[/name_f].
