Love for Linnet

I’m not big on lyn names, having grown up in the 60’s and 70’s with so many, including a couple I didn’t like.

But I find myself loving [name_f]Linnet[/name_f], which I first heard in an [name_f]Agatha[/name_f] [name_u]Christie[/name_u] novel as a girl.

I love names which have a definite consonant ending. I say it lin-it as opposed to [name_f]Lynette[/name_f] which I’m not keen on.

It is a bird and it reminds me of lovely, clean linen fabric. It seems old-fashioned, but not fusty. It’s short and crisp and to the point.

Also it gives two of my favorite nns: the cool [name_f]Lin[/name_f] and the charming [name_f]Lindy[/name_f].

Any thoughts? (I’m not naming anybody so no worries of hurting my feelings)

I like the idea of it but it might sound like a linnet screeching in an Australian accent (where I’m from)…

I love this name, and it’s been on my mind a lot lately. I also first came across it in while reading [name_f]Agatha[/name_f] [name_u]Christie[/name_u], so my furst association with it was [name_f]Linnet[/name_f] [name_m]Doyle[/name_m], and her character really coloured my perception of it. It also feels very Arthurian-ish to me, or maybe like it would fit in with the other names in [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] Spenser’s [name_f]Faerie[/name_f] Queene. Overall, I think it’s a great name

[name_f]My[/name_f] first instinct was to pronounce it LIN-ay… I know LIN-et is the correct pronunciation and I think it’s nice. [name_f]My[/name_f] favourite nickname would be [name_f]Ettie[/name_f]

I think it’s so pretty! [name_u]Love[/name_u] the bird connection and the fact its an [name_f]Agatha[/name_f] [name_u]Christie[/name_u] name. It bothers me that most adaptations call her ‘Lin-ETTE’ when in my mind it should be pronounced like the bird, LIN-it.

This was a name I loved when I was a kid! It should see way more use than it does, I think—between the popularity of the “lin” syllable and its similarly to [name_f]Bridget[/name_f], [name_f]Janet[/name_f], etc.
