Does anybody else love the name Liam but hate that it’s the number 1 boys name? If so, are you 100% sure you won’t use it because of this? I’m also wondering if there are any baby “almost Liam’s” that might have been given the name if it were less popular, and what they were named instead. Personally, I think Declan and Calum are great Liam-like options, I just hope they don’t get more popular!
I also think Calum/Callum is a great [name_u]Liam[/name_u] alternative, and [name_u]Cal[/name_u] is just the coolest nickname ever.
I also really think it’s time [name_u]Leon[/name_u] made a comeback!
[name_u]Liam[/name_u] is a wonderful name but yes, the popularity may present an issue. [name_f]My[/name_f] sister seriously considered using [name_u]Liam[/name_u] but in the end, they chose [name_u]Lincoln[/name_u].
[name_u]Liam[/name_u] is so popular.
Alternatives that we considered were [name_m]Linus[/name_m], [name_u]Lionel[/name_u], and [name_u]Lyle[/name_u].
We went with one of them
I love [name_u]Callum[/name_u] as a [name_u]Liam[/name_u] alternative! One of my favorites! [name_u]Killian[/name_u] and [name_m]Kian[/name_m] also have similar sounds and vibes to me!
If I really loved [name_u]Liam[/name_u] and it was absolutely 100% my top name, I’d use it despite its popularity, but that’s the only situation in which I’d use it. I’m just neutral toward [name_u]Liam[/name_u], though. It’s a lovely name, but doesn’t do anything for me, popular or not. I love [name_u]Callum[/name_u], though, and do think it’s a nice alternative to [name_u]Liam[/name_u].
This was sort of our situation. Before we got pregnant with our son, [name_u]Liam[/name_u] was my husband’s number one boy option. I didn’t like it nearly as much so I can’t say that it would’ve been our baby’s name. Anyway, DH was really sad to realize it was so popular, not because he wanted our son’s name to stand out but because it was tiresome hearing the name everywhere.
We did briefly consider [name_u]Callum[/name_u] as an alternative, actually! I still adore that name but we went with something different. €lim. We didn’t choose it because it was similar to [name_u]Liam[/name_u] or [name_u]Callum[/name_u] but it does amuse me that it does seem that way!
I will say though, if [name_u]Liam[/name_u] is truly the name you love, I wouldn’t let popularity turn you away from using it. It’s so special when a parent finds a name that they love…
I’m not sure if you’re from US but here in UK [name_u]Liam[/name_u], [name_u]Callum[/name_u] and [name_u]Declan[/name_u] are all very popular and been common for maybe 20 or so years.

I’m not personally turned off by what the charts say. (I had [name_f]Emma[/name_f] on my list for years–while she was #1 for girls!) I do get bothered when I know too many people with that name.
[name_u]Liam[/name_u] alternatives: [name_m]Elian[/name_m], [name_m]Ian[/name_m], [name_m]Cassian[/name_m], [name_m]Ewan[/name_m], [name_u]Leland[/name_u].
I really liked it before I knew it was popular, too! As mentioned above, I think [name_u]Callum[/name_u] is a great alternative.
I have a [name_u]William[/name_u] nn [name_u]Liam[/name_u] ! He’s 2 and we haven’t really run into any issues with it yet. I knew it was popular but did not know it was the most popular boy name in USA when we chose it. It’s an honor name for my dad so I didn’t really think twice about it. We have run into a few Liam’s at the park and I know one other person with a [name_u]Liam[/name_u] around the same age in our town. Mostly, I see the name on social media a lot more than in person. I’m sure as he gets into bigger schools he will have other Liam’s around but he can also go by [name_u]William[/name_u] if he prefers. I think name popularity can be a little random with where you live, your circle and the schools your kids are in. For example- we know three Sloane’s, two Knox’s, two Jame’s, we have three Eleanor’s that go by different nicknames in our preschool class of 15. I’d just choose a name you love or that means something to you and not worry about popularity.
[name_m]Hi[/name_m]! I’m from the US where [name_u]Liam[/name_u] is the #1 most popular boys’ name while [name_u]Callum[/name_u] is #273 (Calum with 1 L is #838), and [name_u]Declan[/name_u] is #105. While [name_u]Callum[/name_u] and [name_u]Declan[/name_u] are not going to turn any heads, they’re certainly different from [name_u]Liam[/name_u] popularity wise over here.
