LOVE or HATE Kensington on a girl?!

I am in [name]LOVE[/name] with the name [name]Kensington[/name]. I did a poll a little while ago and I got a terrible response with this name…

I think it sounds wonderful and very feminine with the NN Kensi.

I guess what I am asking is: [name]Do[/name] you love or hate the name? and WHY? Are there any negative or positive associations with this name?

I am from the US… maybe that is why we have differing opinions.

Thanks everyone!

it sounds masculine to me, I dislike it on a girl

I love it! I don’t really have a reason why I love it, I just do. I love the sound to it, and that it could work great with many personalities since it has the girly-girl nickname Kensi and the tomboyish nicknames [name]Ken[/name] and [name]Kenny[/name].

[name]Love[/name] it. Especially the nn Kensi.

I’m not a big fan of it on a girl or a boy, as it sounds a little convoluted, pretentious, and meaningless. Of surnames being used as first names, this one is so long and weighty, a mouthful. It reminds me of [name]Carlton[/name] or other fake rich-people names. I also immediately recall the neighbourhood. I do like the name Kensey, however. That said, [name]Kensington[/name] doesn’t necessarily sound un-feminine to me, and honestly, I think it’s less pretentious on a girl than it is on a boy.

Hmm, sorry to bash : / I think it’s not a terrible name, and I usually like masculine or unisex names on girls, but this one just feels a little silly. If you decide to go with it, I like the idea of a middle name with the emphasis on the second syllable: [name]Kensington[/name] [name]Marie[/name], [name]Kensington[/name] [name]Helene[/name], [name]Kensington[/name] [name]Louise[/name], [name]Kensington[/name] [name]Elise[/name]…or single syllable, [name]Kensington[/name] [name]Clare[/name].

I think any last name as a girls first name sounds very masculine-and I am not fond of place names as first names either…

Thank you for all the honest opinions! I value them all… good or bad.

I love [name]Kensington[/name] for a girl! Cute nn would be [name]Kenzie[/name].

I don’t like surnames/boyish names on girls. Its just not my style. I just prefer more feminine names. I don’t think its awful and the nn is cute. [name]Way[/name] better than [name]Madison[/name]/[name]Maddie[/name].

I don’t like it, Sounds too masculine.

I don’t like it at all, sorry. It sounds masculine and I don’t like it for a boy either.

[name]Don[/name]'t like it one bit. [name]Way[/name] too masculine for a girl. I would suggest going with just [name]Kenzi[/name] instead.

I don’t like it on a girl or a boy, like someone else said, it sounds like a faux snooty trying to be “uppercrust” name. I prefer [name]Mackenzie[/name].

I am due in 3 weeks and this was on my list – I tend to really like surnames and place names… and word names for that matter! However, I do hear the pretentiousness of the name. I also am not a fan of Kensi as a nickname, only because it’s too common (though cute); but I’m someone who likes names not in the Top 1000… and [name]Kensington[/name] itself is a bit long to say, which is why I took it off the list.

I don’t care for it. It’s a whole lot of name, and just not my style. It also sounds very harsh.

Yeah, I kind of hate it. That doesn’t mean you should, though! [name]Just[/name] be prepared for raised eyebrows, I guess.

I like it! I think it fits the new unisex/surname/place name style and has a super cute nickname. It could also pay homage to relative named [name]Kenneth[/name].

[name]Kensington[/name] [name]Paige[/name]
[name]Lyra[/name] [name]Kensington[/name]
[name]Peyton[/name] [name]Kensington[/name]

i am not a fan of unisex names generally but for some reason i like htis one.

Gross…I hate it

This is just MY opinion - I don’t mean to offend you…but I am in the U.S., and I personally dislike it - on a male or female.
To me, it falls into the same category as [name]Madison[/name] and [name]Addison[/name] and [name]Mackenzie[/name]. It sounds social-climber-ish - too “fancy” - like [name]Porsha[/name] or [name]Chanel[/name] - it falls into the same category (to me) like those subdivisions with names like “Hillcrest Estates” when they’re just regular homes and not estates (if that makes sense). I can imagine some developer naming their subdivision “[name]Kensington[/name] Estates” to try to make the houses sounds more posh.
