Does [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] sound too much like “loose seal”?
Never made that association until you said it. It’s a perfectly good name!
I pronounce it as Lu-see-uhl, not with a double S sound.
I mean, technically, yes… but I’ve never made that association until I saw it written just now.
I wouldn’t have thought of it if you hadn’t mentioned it, and even now it doesn’t bother me! I really like it
I’d say seal as see-ull and Cille as sill so it doesnt sound quite the same
Not to me. There’s only one S sound in [name_f]Lucille[/name_f], there’s 2 separate S sounds and a break in loose seal.
I would never have thought that. In my accent the first syllable is pronounce more like “luh” than “loose”.
I mean, I guess but I don’t know how often someone is going to be saying “loose seal” in their life.
Good point
Never would have seen it! I say it as loo-see-ul anyways.
In the TV show Arrested Development they make a joke about this (well, there is a miscommunication where somebody says “loose seal” and another character thinks they said “lucille”) but even as somebody who has seen that scene many times, I don’t think of it when I hear the name [name_f]Lucille[/name_f]! I don’t think it would ever be a problem IRL.
Maybe if you were a seal dealer… but yeah it does seem very unlikely!
No, it doesn’t. I would pronounce it same as @shells15.
I say it more like [name_u]Lou[/name_u]-seal… never would have made the association of “loose seal”
I never made that connection until I saw that! All I think of when I hear [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] is [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] Ball, and that’s not necessarily a bad connotation.
Never made that association before.
I’ve never thought of that and I don’t think it’s an issue
Lucille is a classic name. No, it doesn’t.
I never thought of that. It’s fine.
