Lucius Pronounciation?

I named a character Lucius, but I’m unsure how it’s pronounced ?

I don’t know if it’s subjective, or if there is a proper way, because I’ve heard it pronounced both ways. I’ve always said it “loose-ee-us”, but I’ve also occasionally heard “loosh-us”.

So:
Is it LOOSH-us
or LOOSE-ee-us ?

I think the pronunciation depends on the location your book takes place in. Being from the southern part of the US it’s pronounced LOOSH here. However I could see a different pronunciation in other parts of the world, maybe even other states here in the US.

It takes place in vaguely western europe area here, so I’d lean more towards loose-ee-us ? The character is from a rural setting though, so i dunno xP

I’m in Western [name_f]Canada[/name_f], and I’d pronounce it as LOOSE-ee-us.

If it’s for a book then it will really be up to whoever is reading it to pronounce it how they like.
I think both loosh-us and loose-ee-us are correct so you can choose whichever you want.
The only character I know of with the name is Malfoy and I think I’ve heard his name said both ways in the movies by different characters but I could be wrong.

[name_f]My[/name_f] instinct would be LOOSH-us.

both pronunciations are correct, but i vastly prefer loo-see-us (and it’s what i’ve heard more frequently (and for reference, i’m english))

I would say LOOSE-ee-us (like [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] with -us in the end)

Im guessing a lot of the US will use the 2 syllable way but its a very uncommon name here and [name_u]Harry[/name_u] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] would be most peoples introduction to the name. Either way is correct. I like the 2 syllable way because it sounds less like [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]!
