We are looking for a classy name for our baby girl. Siblings are all boys - [name_m]Anders[/name_m], [name_m]Bram[/name_m] and [name_m]Gideon[/name_m]. We like [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f], [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] [name_f]Lucille[/name_f], and [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] (all honor family names in some way). [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] has been our long time fav, but friends have used it and we worry that it’s too popular, considering our other kid’s names aren’t super trendy. If we use [name_f]Ruth[/name_f], we would call her [name_f]Ruthie[/name_f]. We want a name that is sweet and feminine but also strong for when she is older. Opinions?
I think [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] sounds outstanding with her older brothers. [name_f]Ruthie[/name_f] is the perfect way to bring youth and energy to it while having a formal name as an adult. I love it.
I love [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]! I’m not too sure any of your options go well with your (fabulous) boys, though. With that in mind, I would go with your favorite, which you mentioned was [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]. [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] nn [name_f]Ruthie[/name_f] is cute as well. I’ve never been much for the name [name_f]Mary[/name_f].
I actually love [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] with your set. [name_f]Mary[/name_f] is such an underused, unexpected name for babies now! [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] is wonderful, but you’re right that it has gotten rather popular. Either [name_f]Mary[/name_f] or [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] would be great, though. [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] is one of those names that is objectively a fine name, but just does nothing for me. I think particularly next to [name_m]Bram[/name_m] and [name_m]Gideon[/name_m] it sounds very Old Testament-themed.
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] is lovely but I also really like [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] [name_f]Lucille[/name_f]!
I highly prefer [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f]. I think that name is perfect, and it goes really well with your sons’ names.
Although [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] is a longterm favourite of mine and works fine in the family, I do agree with you that it sounds a little popular and mainstream compared with the brothers’ names. I love [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] and think it goes beautifully. I agree with the pp who said that [name_f]Mary[/name_f] is such an under-used and unexpected name, which meets your criteria of classy, sweet, feminine and also strong.
So, while all are fine, my order of preference would be [name_f]Mary[/name_f], [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] then [name_f]Ruth[/name_f].
[name_m]Anders[/name_m], [name_m]Bram[/name_m] {and} [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] or [name_f]Mia[/name_f]
{Scandinavian forms of Biblical names [name_m]Andrew[/name_m], [name_m]Abraham[/name_m], [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] and [name_f]Mary[/name_f]}
[name_m]Gideon[/name_m] {and} [name_f]Zipporah[/name_f]
{Hebrew forms of Biblical names}
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f]! I just love this name, it’s so sweet and darling.
I like [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] but agree with you it doesn’t quite “fit” as well as with your boys’ names. I’m really sold on [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] with the nickname [name_f]Ruthie[/name_f]. Classic but cute.
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] is really cute.
I like [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] ([name_f]Ruthie[/name_f]) [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] the best. I think [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] is highly underrated
[name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]. I love how well this gentle, classic-yet-distinctive name goes with your boys’ names. [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] / [name_f]Ruthie[/name_f] also fits in very nicely, but there’s something so precious and dove-like about [name_f]Mary[/name_f] that I don’t really see in the other names.
I like [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] both on its own and in this sibset, and phonetically it sounds great with the other names. It just does feel more mainstream.
All of your options are lovely, but [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] is far and away my favourite. I feel as though it flows the best in the sibset with your boys names, and it adds a little extra something that [name_f]Mary[/name_f] lacks, while giving a little bit of an updated sound compared to [name_f]Ruth[/name_f].
My second choice however would be [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] [name_f]Lucille[/name_f], as I love the NN [name_f]Ruthie[/name_f].
I love all three names, but I think [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] or [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] would be best with your set. [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] sounds too traditional Catholic-school-girl compared to your unique boy names.
All three options are lovely. The gentle and soulful [name_f]Mary[/name_f] is my favourite girls’ name of all time, and I think she would fit very nicely with this sibset. Is [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] not an option? I think that would be a stunning choice and would incorporate the daintiness and beautiful meaning of [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] into the name.
I think [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] fits best with her siblings, BUT I am a firm believer that if you love a name, you should use it, so I would go with [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]. It may be getting more popular, but that’s because it is a sweet, quirky name that others can see the appeal of. If you can handle the popularity, I would go with [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]. If not, [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] nn [name_f]Ruthie[/name_f] is a great alternative.
[name_f]Mary[/name_f], [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] and [name_f]Ruthie[/name_f]… like from the TV show Seventh [name_f]Heaven[/name_f]! Very cute.
I adore [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] [name_f]Lucille[/name_f]!
[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] and [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f]! They work so well with your boys’ names. [name_f]Mary[/name_f] is okay, but the mn [name_f]Grace[/name_f] is so overused, much like [name_f]May[/name_f], even thought it’s pretty.
