Luka for a girl?

i am quite liking the name luka for my baby girl due in 8 weeks but not sure if its a unisex name??
Also suggestions for a middle name?? thanks x

[name]Luca[/name] is the Italian form of the man’s name [name]Luke[/name]. It is not a girl’s name. [name]Lucia[/name] is the Italian form of [name]Lucy[/name], which is the feminine for [name]Luke[/name]. [name]Just[/name] because a name ends in “a” doesn’t make it female. [name]Lucy[/name], [name]Lucie[/name], [name]Lucine[/name], [name]Lucia[/name], [name]Luciana[/name], [name]Lucille[/name] are all Latin-based forms meaning light. There is also [name]Clare[/name], [name]Claire[/name], [name]Clara[/name], and [name]Chiara[/name] which have a similar meaning, as well as the [name]Helen[/name] derivatives.

what about spelt lucca? is it still pronounced the same? x

[name]Luca[/name] this way could be cute

[name]Luka[/name] is a male name. I detest it for a girl, personally.
[name]Luca[/name], pronounced LOOT-sa, is a Hungarian female name, but if you aren’t using that pronunciation, I strongly suggest finding a new name, perhaps [name]Luisa[/name] or [name]Lucia[/name].

[name]Luca[/name] as a boys name is strongly dominated by boys right now. I love unisex names myself but this one is really all boys. So you have to be ok with that.
I know a woman named Jeoffrey and she loves her name, so it’s possible, just know it’s the same idea.

Sorry, but I cannot see it. I think [name]Lucia[/name] or [name]Lucy[/name] would be a much better alternative.

I agree–[name]Luka[/name] is all boy to me. I know of a family who has two girls, [name]Luka[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] and [name]Blair[/name] [name]Evangeline[/name], but I would not suggest doing it. [name]Luka[/name] is popular boys’ name atm, and I think it’d be very confusing for a little girl to have the name. I think [name]Lucia[/name] (especially with the pronunciation LOO-shah, which sounds quite similar to LOO-kah/[name]Luka[/name]) works much better as an alternative for a girl, and it’s not too princessy at all, imo.

We thought of using it for a girl, and people were very supportive. We ultimately are going in a different direction.

If you like it, go for it. But, to me, it does sound more masculine. Could it be a nickname for something else?

It seems all boy to me. Not only that, but I also think of the incredibly sad song “My Name is [name]Luka[/name]” by [name]Suzanne[/name] [name]Vega[/name].

I love it for a girl. It’s number one on our list for ours due in a few weeks. I think with a “k” it’s less like the Italian version. To me it’s the female form of [name_m]Luke[/name_m].

It is a male name as so many other have pointed out. Wanting it to be a female name doesn’t make it so. It isn’t the female version of [name_m]Luke[/name_m]. [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] as others have pointed out, would be fab. Also, [name_u]Luca[/name_u] could be a great name to hold into for a possible future son (along with [name_m]Lucas[/name_m] and [name_m]Luke[/name_m]).

[name_m]Luka[/name_m] is the Eastern European version of [name_u]Luca[/name_u]/[name_m]Lucas[/name_m]/etc. [name_m]Just[/name_m] because it’s the female form “to you” doesn’t mean it really is.

Super cute this this way for a girl!! And yes, I’d pronounce [name_u]Lucca[/name_u] the same as [name_m]Luka[/name_m]. [name_f]Hope[/name_f] you choose it!!
