We are planning to name our little boy [name_u]Luca[/name_u]. We really like this spelling as opposed to [name_m]Luka[/name_m], however he has Hungarian heritage which I believe in Hungarian [name_u]Luca[/name_u] is translated to [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] not [name_m]Luke[/name_m].
Does anyone know if [name_u]Luca[/name_u] is also used for boys in Hungary these days, or is it strictly a girls name?
Thanks

Hungarian Naming Laws wouldn’t accept [name_u]Luca[/name_u] nor [name_m]Luka[/name_m] for a boy, while [name_u]Luca[/name_u] is on the girl list.
So literally: strictly a girls name.
[name_m]Hi[/name_m], I live in Hungary and just named my 5 week old daughter [name_u]Luca[/name_u]. It is only used as a girl’s name here and people aren’t as creative with names as they are in the english speaking world. Names in Hungary must be approved or permission must be requested in order to be allowed to give your child a name that’s not on “the list” of hungarian names.
